I am starting to get into painting landscapes now and I find your channel very informative, I thank you. I think that finding an environment that stimulates you when you make art is important, for me it is quiet and fresh crisp air, and I think this painting captures this for me.
This is a lovely painting ! Wonderful variety of colors and rich contrasts here. I love the telephone poles and the lovely greens in the foreground. It’s always fun to watch you paint and see what you create even if you are not completely happy with it!
All painters have their failures, but only the best painters recognise them publically, and learn something from them. Well, that's my theory anyway! Don't be too hard on yourself, Andrew, you'll pull it round.
Thank you so much Mark - I might return in a week or two when the daffodils are out. It will become a lively, colourful scene to paint then - with different challenges
It is all too easy to avoid painting! Got out of bed the wrong side…. It’s a grey cloudy day…… the scene does not inspire or I am not inspired to produce a masterpiece!!! So pleased you posted this, it gives us all a useful prod to engage and attempt a task. The use of gesso on paper is an excellent and economical method of working either out of doors or in a series of small images doe the daily studio paintings. It also was a happy reminder that spring comes early in Cornwall!
I think the subject you chose, and your painting are really quite good. It's better than you think. Sometimes we can be too hard on ourselves thinking it's not interesting. If you set it aside for a few weeks, then go back and look at it with fresh eyes. You might feel differently. I like your style!
Well, of course You'll have to do another one when the Daffodills will be in full Bloom. That'll be quite spectacular. Or one with Basil chilling on the Ground.
Very nice work Andrew ,, I mostly paint on oil paper now as it’s makes them so much easier to dispose of afterwards ,, and if on the 5th Wednesday in the month someone does happen to part with a couple of quid to buy one I just glue it to a bit of board that will then sit nicely in a float frame I make 👍👍
That sounds like a great idea. I do glue mine to board sometimes so I can float frame but find it easier to sell them unframed - and I don't have to sort out the framing 😀
Hi Andrew ... Overall a nice oil sketch of the fields ... Just a thought about the foreground ... Perhaps add more contrast with a darker more vibrant green(s) ? Seems like all the greens have same value ? ... just a friendly observation 🌞
Hi Nancy and thank you I think the foreground looked ok at one point when I first added some cooler greens in but it got muddy when I introduced some yellow. I might rework it when dry and post the result

Beautiful - thank you Green Fields in January, At the latitude of Leningrad But, bullfinches do not fly to them there They don't need all this. They want to break in In fresh space Where there are kilometers of snow And soon they will see Crash of Chinese gods Children of Tibet

I like painting onto paper although the gesso I used on this sheet was a bit too dry and felt like sandpaper
Thank you. I am still in the beginning stages of plein sir painting. I liked your approach and look forward to more videos.
Thank you John

If I can catch the daffodils before they pick them that would be a great idea
Well done, Andrew.
Thanks Bob 👍🏻

Lovely to see you again Andrew . I really love the English landscape. Keep up the great work. Co Donegal calling.☘️
Thank you kindly Rosemary
Bonsoir excellente idée que de peindre sur du papier . Vous avez préparé celui ci avec du Gesso. ou avec un autre produit ?
Cordialement
Merci beaucoup Luc. I used rabbit skin glue and chalk for the gesso. It was like painting on fine sandpaper
Прекрасно!
Thank you very much 😃
I love i actually❤
Thank you so much Louise

may I ask about the Fabriano paper... which is it and do you coat it with gesso or something for oil painting, thanks?
I think I used Artistico for this one - I put a couple of coats of gesso onto it before painting
Is your palette glass or plastic?
Glass. I had the glaziers cut it to fit. It’s quite heavy to carry with everything else, but I like it
What a simple scene but resulted in a beautiful painting! can I ask how much all your art supplies weigh? Glad you had a good time! :D
Thank you so much 😊
The painting gear weighs quite a lot especially when I carry video equipment too
