Hi folks, here’s the recipe to a comforting rasam that you can very easily make at home. Hot, spicy and tangy this warming broth features Tamil and Andhra influences, mirroring the ancestry of my wife, Sreedevi. This is perfect, drunk as a soup after a heavy meal, or delightfully satisfying with some steaming hot rice, a simple vegetable and a touch of pickle. We also drink it in copious amounts especially when fighting the cold, the pepper and spices in this concoction providing warming relief. Hope you enjoy this one. Stay safe and happy cooking.
Ingredients to make Rasam
2 medium-sized ripe tomatoes
1 bunch fresh coriander
Curry leaves, a fistfull
2 tsp peppercorns
2 tsp cumin seed (jeera)
7 to 8 dry red chillies
9 to 10 cloves of garlic
2 tsp organic jaggery powder (optional)
1 roundel tamarind, soaked in water/ 1 tbsp tamarind pulp
1 ltr water
2 tsp salt
For seasoning
1 tbsp ghee
1 tsp mustard seeds
A pinch of asafoetida
Please refer to the video for the method.

Come on Man, why are you so parochial ?
Didn't you hear Bella, Anna, Saaru, Palya and Uppinkaayi in Kannada.

Let us celebrate all languages and cultures. Let us be Indians.
If everyone starts thinking he is from this state or that, then who will fight CHEENI on the border? When Army officer Santhosh Babu was MARTYRED, Nobody saw him as a person from a particular state speaking a particular language. For us he is an Indian, we lost.
Mr. Kripal Ammanna and Smt Shree Ammanna belong to India.

Rasam comes to our Rescue...when we're running out of cooking supplies and find were are leftover with peppers, cumins, tamarind and coriander leaves....
The essence of pounded spices release soothening warmth on our taste buds.
Rasam irrespective of the multiple types followed in different cuisines of South India, it just rejuvenates our system after every Big meal or with simple rice and omlette with onions and chilles...as humble as it is.
Rice, Rasam n Omlette...
Just Heavenly....

What a splendid video, Kripal and Sree! More than the ingredients, the preparation, and experiencing the taste.... is how well, and lovingly, you both communicate with each other. It's so heart warming to see the love and respect you both have for each other, and how that in turn is translated right into the food experience! Marvelous, absolutely marvelous y'all!

You both look classy. It's a go to food in TN if we have cold and fever. There are many variations of Rasams in TN with slight differences.

Hi Kripal,
I am malayalee residing in US. My husband went to BMS college and had an andhra room mate that used to make rasam every day.
I myself like buttermilk or moru in my rice. He loves rasam. I have always used rasam powder. Today is easter sunday. Because of lock down by the time I went to grocery store fresh meats were sold out. So I thought of experimenting your wife's recipe. Didn't have jaggery but had coconut suger. Wow flavor was amazing! Will not go back to store bought rasam powders. Going to share this recipe with my friends who are in quarantine with Covid19. Hats of to your wife. Will love to see more of her cooking videos.

We have always enjoyed watching your videos. Your presentation is very interesting. You have been so minutely describing the dishes l that we love listening to it. You are highly professional in this field and wishing you all the best.
God bless you & your family.
Great video. The best way to consume the rasam is to let it settle in the glass, drink the clear rasam sip by sip, relish the different layers of flavor and aroma, eat spoonfuls of the subzi to reset your tastebuds and then go back to the rasam. Once you are up to 1/2 of the rasam, serve some hot rice, pour the remaining rasam over the rice, serve some more hot rasam to bring up the temperature of the rasam rice and gulp it down before it cools down. A bowl is better than a flat dinner plate for this routine.

Hii ma'am hope you are doing well with your family at your home, actually I'm also from Kuppam only the reason why I'm writing comment on this video is I felt very proud by watching our recipe in your channel. So now I would like to share something about our rasam, The tangy flavour of rasam helps to clean out our respiratory tract and the curry leaves in it helps us deal with flu-like symptoms. Curry leaves, tamarind extract, turmeric powder, pepper corns and mustard seeds have a number of health benefits if we are prone to cold and cough. It plays a very major role in building the body immune system at this present pandemic situation. The most important thing you have blended all the ingredients together to prevent the wastage of ingredients I like this method. Mr. Kripaal sir ji love you a lot, the way you speak and the expressions while you tasting the food. To be very honest nimma channel nodilla andhre nange nidhe kooda baralla sir, that much I've addicted to your channel. Thank you very much for being there for us.
