Summer is here, and so it’s time for a refreshing yet nourishing curry. This authentic Karnataka style Majjige Huli, a staple of Brahmin homes fits the bill. Sour, spicy and enriched with the creamy goodness of yoghurt, this easy recipe, though traditionally made with ash gourd is versatile enough to be made with a host of vegetables. Catch Sreedevi as she makes her favourite version with ladies finger before we sit down to a humble yet soul satisfying meal at our home. This is the perfect recipe to make for your loved ones, stay safe and happy cooking.
    Ingredients to make Majjige Huli
    Serves 3 or 4
250 gms ladies finger/ okra, washed and dried
    1 cup fresh, grated coconut
1 ½ cup yoghurt, nicely whisked to prevent any lumps
    5 to 6 green chillies
    Handful of curry leaves
    1 tbsp cumin seeds (jeera)
2 tbsp Bengal gram , soaked for an hour in ½ cup water
    1 tbsp ginger
    1 cup water
    Salt to taste
    For the seasoning
    1 tbsp oil
    1 tsp mustard seeds
10 to 12 fenugreek (methi) seeds
    1 tsp turmeric powder
    A pinch of asafoetida
Please refer to the video for the method.

Haven't even watched the episode yet and can tell it must be exciting stuff.
Ladies Finger, Greens(Amaranthus), Ash Gourd, Snake Gourd majge huli are common in a Brahmin house hold in karnataka. Deshasta brahmins even call this 'Majge Paldya'.
This is an excellent accompaniment with Ragi Mudde for vegetarians. Like a fish curry, longer this ages, it tastes better. Prepare in the morning and have it at night to enjoy its best version.
Post watching: great and no comments on the recipe.
A small variation is to use fresh coriander leaves while grinding the paste.
Any yogurt based preparation is best done using ghee tadka over oil, be it raitha, tambli or majge huli, use ghee and you will know the difference.

I follow closely your blog and have been watching your videos for sometime. The last three was unique in many ways. Thank you for bringing these latest healthy recipes during the Lockdown.
Rasam was staple diet in our home though it we never thought to grind all the ingredients which indeed a brilliant idea as the whole thing blend with the rasam. Since then we have been following your recipe. Today , in New York, we will try the Majjige Huli. Thanks Sri & Krpa. 5*Star
