That rendition is nothing else then a WONDER. The interpreter is a Dryad, a wood nymph, une nymphe des bois, merveilleuse! Merci pour un si grand cadeau!
A performance that is light and graceful, rather than the blocky muscularity that one often hears in this piece. Blessed are those who have a five-stringed cello for the sixth Suite... and blessed are they who have the sensibility to exploit such an instrument's potential to the full!
Simply wonderful. A five string cello is the right thing for the sixth suite. Playing it on four strings is a stretch. I love the cheeky little extra grace notes. Thank you Ophélie. You bring joy to an old lapsed ‘cellist.
.....To play that beautifully and effortlessly. Just amazing. Edit: I just watched this video again while I was practitioner my cello at home. It almost made me cry. What a great technique you have. Incredible.
I have always appreciated Ms. Gaillard's talent and musical delivery. I am familiar with these suites and when I started to watch I wondered why her left hand was in such a low position. Then I counted the strings! I have been tempted over the years to add a fifth string to my cello...but that seems like cheating :) It is not.
5 string cello was quite common in the baroque days before the extension of the fingerboard. So high register playing often requires the use of 5 string cello.
Winnie Tam there is a version of the cello called the baroque cello. It was typical in the 17-18 hundreds. It is still used in Europe and very good cellists
It is called violincello picolo invented by js Bach to be used in the 6th cello suite. There are arrangements of the suite to be played on a modern cello
Yes, Bach wrote this Suite for a cello fitted out with an E-string, tuned a fifth higher than the A-string. The most important surviving manuscript (known as the Anna Magdalena manuscript) bears this inscription in faulty French: "A' cinq accords." What was meant was, "A' cinq cordes", which can be translated as: "For five strings."
hey, would love to know ofhow you manage your cello to sound so much like a viola da gamba, i hope you see this! please do not tell me it's just because of the baroque bow, is it? hugs
Leandro Vega Duré The higher strings are made of gut instead of steel, like a viola da gamba. Plus her baroque bow is thinner than modern bows, so its got a more delicate sound
hi leonardo, it's Ophelie. im sorry my manager wont allow me to give my secrets away that make me the best cellist around... Best regards, Ms. Gaillard
Leandro Vega Duré It is a baroque cello, so it has gut strings like a viola de gamba because the body is weaker than a modern cello, and cannot handle steel strings.

People, it is a 5 stringed baroque violoncello piccolo. She is using a baroque bow.

I didn’t know there were different types of cello 😂
Not piccolo
In a tree with cello was she, at one with nature and music you see, what a lovely, lovely place to be.
Dang! I never knew that fields and trees in France had such wonderful acoustics!
Dear Ophélie, Your playing is gorgeous! You don't need to hide in a tree!
i'm totally impressed. i never heard such a clean and musically eloborated version. thx for posting.
Very nice music, Ophelie and very original playing up in a tree - in nature!

It obviously does its job splendidly in the hand of this wonderful musician
i think the best part of this video is when she's playing the cello in a tree! muchswagg
I love her ornamentations!

i'm in love of thy interpretation! thanks

Arthur Royce wait how do you ADD a fifth string. Weird question coming from Bach
Wonderfully picturesque setting to play the cello in.

Fantastic !
What a strange idea to play outside with an indoor sound!
Gracias!
Lindo!!!!
love the idea of a high E string, notice some cello's mainly carbon fibre are sold with a low F!
less reason to use thumb position ;)
Well...those trees make really good reverb :-D
where do you find this beautiful nature?
France...
Perhaps in switzerland or in France
Merci !
joli paysage...
When she went up into the that tree and I was like...Wow!
2:20 so natural~
That bow is not weird, this is baroque bow :)

What's keeping the chair from sinking into the ground?
wow!
I love 💕
Cello is easy or hard to learning as the beginner? How much to learn Cello?
5 string cello was quite common in the baroque days before the extension of the fingerboard. So high register playing often requires the use of 5 string cello.
❤️
Is that good for the cello to place on the ground leaning against a tree?
This piece is so much easier on 5 string cello (viola de gama)
nice double stops.
💜🎶🎵💖🎵🎶💜
5strings on her cello ?!?!?!?!?!?!
Yes... Bach originally wrote the sixth suite for a five-string cello.

what size cello are you using?
Wow it actually sounds like a viola da gamba!

Maybe because of the violoncelle piccolo (you noticed it has 5 strings)
Cello's beget chairs...
that is one weird looking bow
That is a baroque bow.
It's a Baroque bow.
I WONDER WAT KINDA BOW DAT SHIT BE
She seems to have forgotten a gavotte is a lively dance. This sounds sad
Fantastic!
