Thank you so much for putting this together mate... I too, use the Pedal Commander on my 4Runner, and had just discovered Eco mode yesterday. To be honest, like you, did not like it at all! I usually run mine on Sport +2, which I find to be my sweet spot for the truck. This video really put things into perspective. Thank you again!

Thank you, I appreciate that!!...I actually don’t change it when towing the boat, so it’s usually in one of my favorites (City+2 or Sport)...but I do use tow/haul when I have the boat hooked up, it helps with the shift points for sure...hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

The 2014 F150 XLT XTR 4X4 302 V8 we just purchased from a used car dealer has 1 of these installed on it. Found it shoved under the driver's side dash, was wondering what it was, & how it works.
Just found it today, and bought the truck 8/3/23.
    We're averaging 16.8 +/- mpg.
Previous owner of the truck was the Canadian Ministry of Transportation.
I'd love to know what the used this truck for....
It also has a Heads Up Display on the dash plugged into the OBD port.
HUD just shows speed and revs.

I see a couple small possible variables. Warmup should be done prior to initial trip, to prevent extra fuel dump during warmup. I would also do a full trip then another to compare. ( this would prevent hills from being advantageous to one trip vs the other)
All In all this pedal is only changing sensitivity of pedal, which makes the only more pedal less effective in eco mode. I have pedal commander and love what it did for the truck.

    • @manwhalejoe6962

I know this is an old post, but - this is not exactly correct. It is also eliminating the electronic throttle lag. Meaning its not just “pushing the pedal harder.” Its also kicking the engine on much faster. So your real-life acceleration improves, because your car starts moving forward much sooner than before. It is NOT equivalent to just “pushing down harder” - just to correct this information for people watching this video.

Would love to see a really long trip experiment using Stock vs ECO. Maybe a 300+ Mile trip. I travel 430 miles back to Texas often and while my 38 gallon tank gets me there with 50 miles left I would love to see how much more I would have with the ECO mode. Especially because on these long trips its all highway miles which is when we're the most efficient.

I actually bought the PC specifically for ECO mode. I drive for Lyft and wanted to see if after using this for a week, if it saved me a fill up. On a busy week I fill up 2 to 3 times, so gains in MPG are very important for me. Even if it's only a few MPG more, that adds up when you're driving hundreds per week. Additionally, I actually DON'T want to throw my passengers back in their seat when I step on it. I'm hoping it just smooths out the acceleration a bit, almost as a way of keeping me in check :D so I'm not flooring it and scaring everyone in the car. Anyway, I just installed mine yesterday and haven't put a full day of driving in yet. Thanks for this test you put together. It was helpful to see and may help me be a bit more critical when it comes time to decide whether or not this was worth it and if I want to keep it.

freeway speed (65-70) yielded higher MPG. There were a few occasions that my tundra got above 21 mpg. Most of the time it is 17-19 ish. Granted I do drive like a grandpa and mine is stock from the factory. You should try pedal commander at freeway speed to see how the truck does.

I tested ECO vs City 2 on my roughly 150 mile commute and I must say that ECO yields higher MPG. Normally I get about 21mpg going to work in my RAM 1500. I got about 22 in City 2 and almost 24 in ECO 2. The return trip kills my MPG because it’s mostly up hill. I’d say for commuting and the fuel conscious driver, ECO mode is where it’s at!

@@NitroZ18Fishing Keep in mind this is in SoCal with some nice hills to really kill the MPG to and from. ECO really works well when I'm in the mood to go the speed limit. When i'm in the mood to get home, CIty 2 is where I stay, just so I can keep up with traffic and pass folks. It's worth a shot on a longer trip IMO.

I have a Ford Fusion 2.0L SE Hybrid with Ecoboost. These kinds of Eco-modes work by putting a governor on the throttle, and if you have generator brakes, by more softly applying those over a longer distance so you can capture 100% of your energy. That's it! You get really mushy driving, but about 2 to 3 mpg better as long as you are ONLY using Eco up to 25 mph. Over 25 and you can really hurt your engine because of back-pressure issues and you lose all of that mpg but still have mushy driving. In fact, Ford is being sued right now for Ecoboost issues, and I feel those people were actually driving with Ecoboost on at highway speeds which damaged their systems. You only need to use it at 25 mph or less, and turn if off over that limit. And that is for neighborhood and small city driving. If you are city driving in Los Angeles where you need more hp to avoid danger or to beat the red lights, your mpg would be better served by keeping Eco off and in the case of PC, by driving it in Sport. Does that make sense to everyone?

I drove my 2020 to Ft bragg from west side of Columbus, ohio average of 17.1 mpg with 4 adults and 200+lbs cargo. Caveat is I've noticed with my stock 32in tires the truck is actually traveling 1-1.5 mph slower than the speedometer shows comparing it to the GPS speed and I use an app call "Waze" also to confirm actual speed.
