    I like the way you review these mic kits. Have you reviewed the UHF type of kits, such as the Saramonic UwMic9, their UwMic9S, or UwMic9s Mini? Other than Saramonic and Comica, are there any other dual-channel UHF kits available?

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  Год назад +1

      I’ve reviewed several UHF mic kits. Comica, Godox, Movo, 7Ryms
      The issue I have with all of them is the very poor noise floor. But they sure do a great job for range (the cheap 7Ryms can easily outdo any of the 2.4GHz models on the market today. Tho I Might need to test it directly against the Smallrig, as it was quite impressive.

    I have the Smallrig W60 and have found it very acceptable - except - the sender/mic shows the incoming sound through the mic is peaking into the red so, no matter how you adjust the receiver output, the sound is already distorted. Have you found away of reducing the sensitivity of the mic/sender? Thanks.

    You noted the camera input gain of a high 16 with the forevalla latency 15 vs 2 to 5 on the hollyland lark 150 latency 5. Doesnt higher camera input gain introduce more noise ? Gary

      Often but not necessarily. Depends on the impedance match of the two devices and how clean the signal is in the first place.
      I tested a Saramonic Pro 500 kit (which they wouldn't let me release the vide for) and it had terrible impedance matching and was highly prone to interference on the line out side. Had a much louder output, but way worse noise most of the time regardless. I suspect the impedance wasn't properly matched on the input, allowing noise to come in ungrounded.

    Hi Perry, how are you?
    I have a huge doubt between the Smallrig Forevala W60, the Godox MoveLink M2 and the Comica Boom X-D Pro.
    Usability and battery life I liked Smallrig, because it is compact and already comes with lapels, Godox is better, and Comica has the security of recording the audio backup internally and still with a -6dB range.
    As for the audio quality, I couldn't identify which is the best (or least worst)
    What is your suggestion?
    Thanks.

      Depends on your needs I suppose. But I easily prefer the Smallrig amongst those three. I don’t have the new comica in my hands yet, though. It’s in the mail 😏

    I would love to see a comparison with the rode offering, and how the usability is for both in terms of transferring files to a computer? please?

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  Год назад

      You have to install the Rode companion app to transfer files, and while I don’t have the Rode Go ii I’ve heard very mixed things about this experience. Currently reviewing a new 7Ryms wireless mic set and you just plug it in to any computer and files are just There like a thumb drive. Having to install an app is pretty silly.
      The Smallrig doesn’t offer internal recording at all, though. So I guess that’s even worse? Haha.

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  Год назад

      Yeah, DJI seems to drop when you least expect it. The 7Ryms records internally, but reception sucks. The Smallrig seems to have the best 2.4Gig reception of any of them, but no internal recording.

I like the concept/ease/speed of the dials rather than the button pushes of some other systems or finger swipes of the DJI. (Of course I say that never having used the DJI.) @@WesPerryI bought the DJI mic and returned it within a few days. It’s apparently a known issue that using external lav mics creates electrical noise. I’ve been searching for something that meets or exceeds how convenient the physical design of that mic was, to no avail. Really hope they come out with a DJI mic 2 that fixes the issue.

    Sounds like the noise floor might be to high

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  Год назад +1

      The low gain output is very problematic for me. (And would be for many). This relies on a lot of boost from whatever recorder it’s feeding into. If you’re using a camera body (as I did) this is going to introduce a fair amount of noise floor, as they’re simply not an isolated enough system to create a clean enough amplification. If you’re using a higher end dedicated recorder, I suspect this wouldn’t be as much of an issue at all.
      I didn’t want to get too deep into the reeds on this, because I Don’t have such a high end recorder to compare to, but I found that Almost all of the noise in the recording was apparent regardless of whether or not the W60 was plugged into my camera. Which means most of it is coming from the camera itself being set to an input gain of 16 (instead of 2-5 as I do for the Lark 150).
      But Most who use this kit will be going straight into the camera, so it’s a valid concern regardless of the source of noise.

      Presumably the next iteration will have the same wireless chip as the new Smallrig and godox kits.
      But then again maybe not, since DJI rolls a lot of their own wireless for their drone transmission systems. So who knows. Very odd that they would have made something with such random glitches as such.

      @@WesPerry There is a trend now of "samey" products coming from Chinese manufactures. You see companies that have nothing to do with lighting are now having great COB lights, then you see similar ones coming from another brand. Looks to me like big factories there just sell their chips like Sony selling image sensor to most of the famous camera companies/phones/etc.
