Solid review and you picked up on some issues others didn't been doing testing for hollyland for a while on these and providing feedback (not really as a reviewer) but will post a few more details and ideas i shared with them later today in a more nerdy video. The box issue also helps if you close it slightly hold back i assumed it was just my first batch unit but seems its on all units its a small thing but little weird indeed.

Its biggest 2 gains are indeed the 4 or 5 different ways you can use either 1 or 2 mics for interview and safety track modes, hot swapping (while one recharges) and price given that you only need 1 set insead of 2 sets (say with the rode) and it includes to lav mics and a wayyy better wind deathcat system that can't drop off.

Thanks for the review! Hollyland has been knocking it out of the park with solid products at great prices. This looks like yet another product that will do well for them. I have the Hollyland 400S wireless system, and it's a really great performer and very reasonable price. I also have had great customer support from Hollyland.
Regarding the built-in and supplied lav mic, the Rode mic sounds much better to me. You would get better audio "depth" if the lav mic is placed at the sternum, which will pick up more of the chest cavity. In that case, the Lark lav might sound very good. However, I also suggest using a professional quality lav mic, which can improve the audio quality of any wireless system. For the price, this looks like a great value for interviews and audio within a short transmission range. The other reviews I've seen exhibit range dropouts around 75 feet, which is disastrous for any critical audio recording.
Q: What is the approximate battery charge for each of the units, or how long will they operate before you have to recharge them? The charging case is a great idea, but I'm curious if these will last a 10 hour shoot day if left on.

Hi Dave. This is Albert from Hollyland.
The power duration of the wireless charging case is up to 17 hours which can charge the whole set of equipment 2.5 times. After fully charged, the transmitter can be used continuously for 4 hours and the receiver can be used continuously for 7 hours.
Unit Charging Time: receiver need charging 2 hours, transmitter need charging 1.5 hour, charging case need charging 2.5 hours

The range issue is only a issue if you want it to be you will find many test walking 100meters. Indeed these small mics are not for all situations but they do in my testing and reviews i have watched so far perform 20% to 50% better then the rode does. Does that mean at 50meters you should have your body inbetween ? No thats out of the expectation level of something like this. Best to compare it with other small solutions and this covers 90% of the usecases for the last 10% more traditional systems are needed (with all their downsides).

Did you try using the Tascam lav in combination with the Lark system? Probably the biggest difference in sound quality comes from the lav mic itself. Still quite a good deal if you combine this system with some higher end lavs...

Nice review but that receiver is huge! Yes you are right the transmitter(s) are super small which is great! Can’t see putting that receiver on a point and shoot or gopro because of the size.

  • @ClaudioDesideriFilms

Tascam by far the best, warmer than the others and higher sound quality generally. 2nd place Rode, still warm but a bit muddy on the low-end. Last place Hollyland, harsh mid/high-end and zero meat in the lower frequencies.

So with the Hollyland, you cant record on the actual receiver? you have to have an additional device to record the audio??? On the new DJI it has inbuilt memory to record the actual audio!

Thank you for the video! I've purchased the Hollyland Lark 150 myself and recorded with both mics, but I noticed only afterwards I was in mono, which merged all my sounds in one audio channel. Is there a way to separate them in post production?

The safest way is record audio with this kind of equipment is to get the tascam DR10cs use your lav of choice then plug in the lav into the DR10cs out of that, into the rode this way if you experience drop out you've got a backup on you recorder

Wouldn't the noise be explained by the preamp in your recording device, if you send a weak signal and let the recorder do the lifting, vs lift the level in the receiver an send an already adjusted signal to the recorder.
Basically what I'm trying to say it, the noise is from the recorder not the Lark nesessarly.

    • @theTechNotice
      @theTechNotice  3 года назад +1

If both of the comparison devices have been sent to the 'recorder' then the comparison is accurate since you can rule out the 'recorder' character and hear the difference. Said that there is probably something that the recorder also adds to the equation.
so if you want to hear the pure noise of Lark, it would be very difficult technically. :)

Ok if you are going to do Real test do it in real situations. and to compare this to the zoom and tascam is not comparing apples to apples but apples to peaches. I just bough this, but Note they are Transmitter and receiver which means they only work as well as your talent has them with in range of each other. If you turn your back to the receiver and you're only 8' away guess what's going to happen it's going to cut out, but if you are wearing the tascam and hit record and turn your back it will still record. Most times you use these are not ideal settings. I'm going to use for weddings during ceremony and speeches during reception, and will still keep my audio backups. What I'm saying in a long winded way is if you're doing a review do a realistic review.
