      I grew up on a farm plowing, planting, and harvesting fields, and raising animals. Those animals are under the farmer's protection, and there are always predators ready to harm them. First, you put up a fence. Then, inevitably, when that doesn't work, and a coyote slips through, the farmer shoots it. That way you fix the problem of anything so dangerous and sly in a permanent way. There may be other coyotes, but that one will never be a problem again, and what you're protecting remains safe.
      As I said, I'm a farmer's boy. I've shot my share of coyotes, Lex.
      Don't cross the fence."

    • @jadedandbitter
      @jadedandbitter 20 дней назад +11

      @@MrImastinker yeah, just wrote it. I've always appreciated how Superman doesn't have the hang ups that Batman does about killing-he just doesn't kill because he doesn't have to. His omnipotence affords him the privilege of being idealistic and merciful. But when the chips are down and theres no other way, he's a pragmatist at heart. I always liked in the DCAU where he is going to straight up kill Darkseid and is prevented by Batman, much to his frustration. "You know something, Bruce? You're not always right."
      There's also a comic where he confronts Joker who has come to Metropolis and calmly explains to him that he doesn't have a code that prevents him from killing, or any specific adversion to it. He just generally doesn't. Joker is a bit taken aback by this and decides to go have fun elsewhere. That's one of my favorite pieces of Superman dialogue.

    This is why Tal-Rho shouldn't be in the season. Any episode with him will essentially be the series finale, because Luthor's not Ally Alston or Doomsday, he's just another human, and he won't hesitate to obliterate him without a second thought, especially if he finds out what Luthor's done so far. Thats the same reason why season 3 worked without him, because he would've immediately killed both Peia and Bruno Mannheim. If he shows up in the finale AFTER Luthor's been dealt with, it'll be nice.

    • @kolbytriplett4644
      @kolbytriplett4644 17 дней назад +1

      True, but it’s also very human and much more realistic to have his motivation stem from that. Least of all we forget Luthor has always been an insecure attention seeker who blames Superman for his own problems. And you’re right about him having a grudge but that’s just it: He’s not justified in having the grudge he has, as in all things he puts on Superman. But he only does because he has to believe that Superman is flawed and he’s the superior man. The biker style I simply don’t mind that much when Cudlitz is giving an amazing performance. I like his casual style having a layer of menace to it. This Lex constantly wearing a suit would honestly take away some of his menace imo

      @@juanmrealii2638 you say that but whenever shows or movies do do that people always say, "why not just use _ character instead of the original?"
      There are many interpretations of Lex Luthor in live action TV: Smallville, Supergirl and this one. Each one having the same hatred for Superman but each is stem from different variations of motivation.
      Smallville Lex hates Clark because he lied to him, he even says so throughout the show when he finds out his identity. He's not like comic lex from that perspective but people LOVE him the most out of these 3, showing that you don't have to make a character 1 to 1 to be that character, you can take liberties to make them fit into that world you're making.
      This lex about has a grudge because of losing his family. Compared to Smallville lex he's not winning but he outshines in his own way.
      Now Supergirl lex... Ngl I don't like him that much. He has the same hatred comic lex has which is jealousy and whatnot but it comes off as whiny and extremely underperformed? I can see why current lex is written differently from this one because people forget super girl and Superman and Lois is basically an alternative mirror earth, and honestly I do not want to see Supergirl lex in this show 😭

    i'm reminded of a Batman elseworlds i read recently that answered the question of "what would happen if the riddler got over his fixation on riddles and games?" turns out..he turns into a certifiable nightmare. noone can go NEAR him without him anticipating it and having some machiavellian plan in place to make thier life hell. and he's smart enough to figure out ANYONE"S secret identity. batman can't touch him becuase Riddler proves he can just kill people at random and there's no way to stop him short of killing him..which Batman has sworn never to do. this goes on for some time, with the last pages of the book featuring Riddler lifing it up in a penhouse apartment, listening in on a cnversation between Jim Gordon and Batman becasue it amuses him to do so. batman tells jim he was wrong to assume that riddler would never change and evolve. and Riddler made the same mistake about Batman...he assumed his mercy was infinite. He ALSO assumed he was listening to live audio instead of a prerecorded message. the last page of the issue has the recording saying "riddle me this Edward: Though we meet but once, you will know me forever after. What am I?" Nygma looks up and sees batman standing behind him...the last few panels are simply black.

Joker loses his since of humor and stops laughing, though he's still homicidal. Riddler goes to war with him over who gets to rule Gotham, leading to hundreds of deaths. batman is being pushed to his limits keeping up with the mayhem and trying to find a way to end it. We find out at the climax that the entire war was a joke Riddler was playing for Joker's benefit to get him to laugh again, including murdering Kite Man's only son(and let's be clear, the son was a minor, and likely not the only minor fatality in the war) to give him the motivation to "save the day", with the notion of the city being saved by Kite Man as the punchline. Riddler explains ALL of this in front of batman and joker, FURIOUS that noone is laughing. batman straight up snaps and tries to shank Riddler. He's stopped..by Joker, intercepting the knife with his own hand. at THAT...Joker gets his since of humor back.

      The concept of Superman is that he does what is right, to not resort to violence, to not appoint himself judge, jury and executioner because one with immense power and wisdom has to act with reason instead of aggression. It’s easier to take a life than to protect it.
      Superman is super not because of his powers, but his ability to do what is right, to practice restrain, to see the best in people, and to use his powers for good.

    I don't get it, Lex has engaged in terroristic threats to Clark and his family. That's a crime. Not only that, but he had a military official kidnapped and ordered their execution, even if it failed. I get that they want the Kents to solve the Lex problem themselves somehow, but the dude should be back behind bars. I'm also sure that creating Doomsday has to result in many violations of various laws including kidnapping, torture, conspiracy to commit murder (even if Superman was revived he was still at one point dead), etc.
    At this point, Clark has more than enough reason to see Lex behind bars. Superman could so easily just follow Lex around for a while, recording video and audio from various angles without even being seen if he wanted to, gather the evidence that he needed to make sure Luthor never got out. But...I suppose that would make for a boring show. It still doesn't help that this show feels so contrived though.

While Superman is an alien with godlike power , at heart, he is a good person, and one of his biggest strengths and weaknesses is his empathy and mercy . He knows asking Luthor to stop is a lost cause , but he gives him the benefit of the doubt and a chance to walk away , unfortunately Luthor's hatred and need for revenge mean it'll never happen.

    True, Lex was innocent-of THAT crime.
    As opposed to how many others he WAS guilty of? I guess I’m not overly noble-but I would have left him in jail.
    Or better yet, on the side of that road they’re standing in-in a shallow grave.
    This man created a monster out of a man who was in a bad state of mind, and in no shape or form wanted what happened to him , and he sent that monster to kill you-and he succeeded.
    This man has threatened you and your family repeatedly-and he wants to destroy your wife especially, a wife fighting illness and who has watched her father die in front of her by the same monster that killed you.
    And even after all that-you’re still trying to do the right thing?

Clark is not at 100% yet and even if he was he’s not confident he can defeat Doomsday as he already failed the first time. So in this clip he’s not just “being nice” this is a strategic move to avoid anymore bloodshed and hoping to appeal to whatever humanity Lex has left.
