If there are so many people against abortion why are there not more people pushing for Dr's to accept a women's right to want to sterilization at 18 years of age? Women inbetween between ages of 18 and 35 are being turned away by dr's because they didn't want to sterilize me even though I didn't have any interest to become a mother.

Because doctors... First off most doctors dont do abortion. Most say it will stain there repitation, and second it isnt the doctors fault for the baby life. The woman decided to go to the doctor. Go and make an appointment and then procide with the opperation. We are not going to accuse doctors for aborting babies. They have a job. But not the woman who decided to kill the baby.

Anyone at the age of 18 can get sterilized because they are adults. And I support this right. Unlike with abortion, this is really our body.

Monica Figueroa Doctors may not want to perform sterilization operations because those operations can be considered as mutilations of the body, which, I believe, is illegal in many places. Also, removal or destruction of reproductive organs takes away the inherent right to reproduce.

@@ivank7492 that's untrue. When I was 18 I tried to get sterilized but the Dr. laughed and said it wasn't for me just because according to her I supposedly didn't know what I wanted. I gave birth to my son at age 20 and I asked for a sterilization after giving birth to my son but the Dr. down right refused me. I was trying to get sterilized before I married but I had been turned away because I wasn't married. Now that I am married and 28 years old with only one child a Dr. finally took me seriously my sterilization is on May 16th. Of this year.

MovieManiac33 I totally see where you’re coming from, and I get how a fetus is also a life, but I think a woman/couple should be able to look at their state in life, their financial and emotional stability, and decide for themselves is they wants to have the responsibility of taking care of a human life. And I believe that people who are pro choice believe in this not because they don’t value the life of the baby, but because they value the life of the baby and the parent(s). It would be much more cruel for the child to starve to death or get ill along with the mother or father than for the mother to get an abortion and decide when she is ready to become a parent.

If you're are an advocate for pro-choice, you have to be for both parties. If the mother has the right to choose on whether to have the baby, the father should have the right to choose on whether to support the baby. I personally think both parties are just as responsible and accountable as each other, they have an obligation. However, if you believe that one of them should have the right to dispose of that obligation and responsibility, the other party should have that right too.

So, if I am understanding the basic premise here... "going beyond pro-choice pro-life" is basically sidestepping the fact that abortion is the needless extermination of a living human being developing within its mothers womb, ignoring whether the unborn should or should not have the right to live, and looking the other way by focusing on other social issues.

In essence, she could not be so bold as to say abortion is a useful social tool, as that would enrage folk who believe it to be murder. She had to point out issues that abortion addresses without specifying that it is abortion which addresses those issues. She's trying to build a coalition between pro-choice and pro-life. They are not cut up and debatably have a soul? But I’m not religious so I won’t get into that. But also if the fetus was malformed and would have life threatening defects would you still force the mother/family to endure the heartache of months of trauma and surgical procedures for one child? The title of the video is misleading. The speaker didn't offer any suggestions about how to reframe the discussion about reproductive rights. Instead, she offered suggestions about the need to reframe the discussion. Maybe a more accurate title would be Why We Should Reframe the Discussion About Reproductive Rights.
Well, here are some suggestions for that 30 or 40% of people in the U.S. who are looking for alternatives to the dogmatism of typical pro-life and pro-choice champions.
A wise man once pronounced a blessing on peacemakers.
If we wouldn’t want civil government entities or agencies to promote beliefs or practices with which we disagree or if we wouldn’t want civil government entities or agencies to enforce prohibitions with which we disagree, the golden rule prohibits us from encouraging politicians to use civil government entities or agencies to promote our own beliefs and practices or to enforce our own philosophical or religious prohibitions.
It is possible to be both pro-life and pro-choice.
I’m pro-life in the sense that I have never recommended that a woman have an elective abortion and I can’t imagine a scenerio in which I would recommend it.
I’m pro-choice becuase I’m aware of evidence that, not only among people who deny the possibility of special revelation but also among theists whose belief systems are built largely on special revelation, there have, historically, been a variety of teachings on the question of when life begins.
Historically, many observant Hebrews have considered life to begin at birth. There is evidence that many Christians have held that view but I plan to refer to that evidence on this thread only if someone requests it.
In 1591, Pope Gregory XIV began to teach that a fetus was a person beginning at the quickening - the first noticeable movement of the fetus, usually near the end of the second trimester of pregnancy. The official language of the dogma referred to the “unanimated” and the “animated” fetus.
On December 8, 1854, Pope Pius IX established the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. In 1869 he removed the labels of “aminated” fetus and “unanimated” fetus and concluded that abortions at any point of gestation were punishable by excommunication. During the Vatican Counsel of 1869-1870, he established the dogma of papal infallibility.
How many people in the West - even people who consider themselves adherents of the papal system - are aware that those three doctrines were not taught by previous popes?
I don’t have an opinion about when, exactly, an egg, an embryo or a fetus becomes “a person”. For this reason, I’m sympathetic with Pope Pius IX in the sense that I agree it would be better to assume that life begins at conception than for a person who doesn’t “know” “when life begins” to recommend or seek an abortion. I DISAGREE with Pope Pius IX about whether to be dogmatic about “when life begins” or dogmatic about whether a person can be considered a Christian (or “Catholic) who reads for himself, studies for himself and thinks for himself.

I applaud her ambition, however, from my experiences talking to pro-lifer's, the vast majority of them are religious and believe in a soul and that the soul is connected to the zygote at time of fertilization. As such, their belief (or at least the beliefs they choose to defend that belief with) contain two unprovable assertions:
    1) the existence of a soul;
    2) the point at which the soul is connected to the zygote/embryo/fetus.
Of course, these religious beliefs are part of why the Establishment clause exists, and that prevents those reasons from being used to make laws enshrining the pro-life stance. So, other people defend those defences with recourse to the useful bits of science that can be deployed to make the case (such as the fact of unique DNA and the biological definition of life). This all ignores the fact that religious positions on when the soul enters the body have frequently changed over time.
The denominations that most fervently vote pro-life now barely voted at all before 1979 and were ambivalent about abortion. They were motivated to vote for Reagan by Jerry Falwell, who also encouraged Reagan to adopt a pro-life stance, and most of this was orchestrated by Republican strategist Paul Weyrich. This means that whilst the professed views are religious, and thus protected, the religious have allowed their views to be altered by politicians, which seems more than a little contrary to the intent of those religions (especially for those whose Biblical views on abortion come from a place of the claimed infallibility and inerrancy of the Bible).

And a right to life sadly makes no objective sense. A right to persue live in liberty can, do but an absulut right to life isn't making any sense.

But no, there is no commen ground on pro-forced birth and woman habe the right to their own bodys. The best is it's right for societiy to help pregnant woman and mothers so that should any lack of basic material-/ socialneeds be the reason abortion/strerilisation are wanted.

    • @catsaresocute650

So on that there appears to be commen ground. But there's nothing I have to say to somone who thinks woman as class and I in specific don't have the absulut right over our body and persumably similarly somone who inherenty dosn't have this feeling of owenership over ones body /or if it is a men of woman over theirs will only see it as murder and then it's illogical and emotionaly non-sensical to compromise on saying murder is right. So there exists no commen ground. I think it's my body and I have the right to own it and I won't compromise litteraly anything about that nor will woman like me. Nor you would hope would people who think it's murder. So the only thing left is how to deal with it.

When a child is conceived, their cells contain the combine DNA of the mother and Father which means they have different DNA from both the mother and father. Having distinct DNA means that a developing fetus is biologically a separate human being from the mother and father. Killing a fetus still inside the womb is just killing a human being during the first stage of its life.

don’t pick “a side”, just realize that life is really important, pro choice people can’t deny that the clump of cells will eventually be a person like you or me, but on the same note pro life people should value freedom and understand the situations of people wishing to get an abortion.

Laxus Dreyar You choose yourself. Read yourself. Don’t trust people in the comments to tell you your beliefs. No side is better then the other. They both have completely different points. it’s up to you my friend

jojo One side being “better” than the other does depend on your own stance on the issue. Pro-lifers believe that since you’re alive, you automatically have a leaning towards the protection of life. However, sometimes that leaning can turn towards selfishness, sometimes that leaning can turn selflessness.

If the baby came out of the womb and the mother or doctor stabbed the baby they would go to jail for murder. In the womb when the doctor does this its a choice?

When should convinience ever be more important that another persons life? Its like... oh I dont have enough time to deliver a live baby and give it up for adoption, so I will just poison a baby that can feel pain and has a developed enough brain to enjoy music because "its my body so I can kill it if I dont want it." Would you agree with abortion if you were going to be murdered by your mother?

spookyfruit so it's fine for her to put her life on hold? To halt her career just when she's almost to her goal, which she's been working towards for years? Her body changed forever, confidence at an all time low.
Also you act as though giving a baby up for adoption is somehow a fix it all solution. What if that child never gets adopted? There have been psychological studies conducted showing that the emotional and mental development of children in the system is stunted compared to those that grow up with a family.
In my opinion, you should think of the quality of life the child will have when they're born. Why set them up for a life of suffering?
