It's so dumb that these old games hold any patent left. Every game should be replicable for free and editable after 20 years, it'd make gaming much more innovative and we could figure out all sorts of weird techniques that could later find its way to new franchise.
Instead of sending C&Ds, Nintendo should just hire the creators of the fan games. They could make lots of money with such things being polished and officially released.
Companies get stupid when they get big. I can't think of a single huge gaming company that hasn't devolved to a hated and greedy mess. Just look at Nintendo, EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard, or any other big company before the 2000's, and how they're doing now.
At this point demake and remake creators need to create aliases or just finish the game before Nintendo ever has the chance to take it down. then release it to be downloaded and shared by anyone so Nintendo cant stop it.

That really stunned me to see a 2D demake of Metroid prime that is incredible! And that 8-bit breath of the wild actually still looks too good for 8-bit. It looks more like those modern games that have the retro 8-bit graphics. There's more details on the shadows and stuff which is something that really wasn't present on the NES
It would be neat if the people making fan games would shut up until they're done so it won't give companies a chance to C&D them (It is explained in Woolie VS "PSA: A Message to Unofficial Fan Game Creators" that companies have to protect their IP's even if they think that what fan creators are making is really good and want to support them.)

I knew Dan Furnace before, and after he made super smash land, I remember him working on it. Before he revealed that last character in it I asked him what it was but he wouldn't tell me other then it hadn't been in any actual smash game. Turned out he was a big fan of Vaporeon lol. It wasn't long after he completed it that he started with Rivals of Aether. Of course, don't think that super smash land is where he started making fan versions of Super smash brothers. The game he worked on when I met him was called Lords of the Smash. It was a SSB version of Lord of the rings. He wasn't as good a programmer back then, but he made this level where you fought on the platform on the back of one of those Giant war Mammoth things, while it walked. It was amazing.
Maybe I'm just dumb, but how does ANY of Nintendo's cease and desist orders have any teeth. As long as these fan games aren't receiving any kind of monetary gain these ALL fall under fair use. As long as people can prove zero gain from these titles I'm sure it would be a waste of time for Nintendo to take it to court. I don't see them shutting down fan animations or parodies. I don't see them shutting down fan fiction sites. Hell, they aren't even going after randomizers which actually edits their original coding. Fan game makers need to just ignore Nintendo's toothless claims. They're just the playground bully who doesn't want an actual confrontation because it will end bad for them.
If I were to own my very own video game company and a bunch of individuals decided to demake one of my games, remake one of my games, or create a whole new game from that in general I would employe them, have them continue their work on their project and release a game that themselves and hopefully millions more will also enjoy.

They should instead embrace the fact that ppl love your game so much and if the game is really good, then put someone from nintendo to oversee the project and let the fan bring it to life (as an approved Nintendo developper) and sell it on modern + original console.

I don't get why people stop after the cease and desist. There's a legal loophole. Just to be safe you start an LLC for your project and don't charge any money for the finished product. They can say the characters are trademarked, you can argue fair use, and if you lose in court then you bankrupt your LLC and you only lose the 250 bucks you used to start the LLC and they can't even legally come after you after that.

i wished i had made the sprites more metroid 2 like so people atleast see it as metroid game and not a cheap hop on the hype wagon on the franchise. but gb studio at that time cannot make sprites bigger than 16x16 without heavy mods to the engine, but hey! thanks for the shout out and exposure!

You say you can't put the demake of Mega Man 8 on the list because it was a Playstation game originally. You shouldn't have Mega Man 7 on here either. Mega Man isn't a Nintendo property anyways. It shouldn't be included on a list of Nintendo game demakes.
Some of these talented game creators would have been better off if they created games with original tittles and graphics. They could create games that has "similar" mechanics like other games have and say they were inspired by "such and such" games. i'm saying this becouse i've seen some indie game developers actually doing this and those games are still around. By doing this allso they could actually get their games funded. (but ofcourse i know that some of these projects might just been a just a hobby for them and making money might not been their interest)

The OoT demakes, to me, show how 3D temples don't necessarily translate to 2D.
There is also a fan-made version of Super Mario 64 in the style of Paper Mario: TT-YD.
