I can confirm that Intel appearances on LTT and GN have significantly turned around my opinions on Arc. I won't be buying one right away, but their openness and apparent honesty definitely put Arc on my radar for a future upgrade.
100%, I dont think I will be buying it because it doesnt fit my needs but I will defiantly be recommending it to others as intel has been upfront and open with arc and i think that should be rewarded.
LMAO. "I've totally changed my mind on Arc... still not getting one though." I doubt they'll keep doing this long term. They're doing a really big push now because they must in order to have any chance at all.
I hate that we live in a world where Linus has to reveal this personal information. I respect his decision. I hate that it is necessary. I respect his explanation.
27:50 "Overkill's CEO, trying his best to turn a mole hill into Artesian Builds, [...]" Fucking gold. 👌 Like they said, could've turned this around into a showcase for your badass overkill computers and gotten a win out of it, but no let's have another unnecessary and entirely avoidable implosion via the ancient ex-marine meme. It was almost literally that.
I had a friend who wore a beanie and id be trying to show him something i recorded and i kept telling him to take the beanie off to listen and he said it didnt affect it. I knew it did. Just had no proof.
Well, the end of the WAN show took a weird turn! I can tell Linus was embarrassed, but I think you did the right thing by being completely transparent...I love the show, and excited for everything LTT has coming up!
I just hope that this will not lead some cancelling against linus. I also dont know what he could have done besides being extremely open about his relationship history.
The accusation is so outlandish, and the fact that it was emailed directly to internal company emails with none of the accusers identifying themselves in any way seems to point to the obvious: This was a personal attack meant to damage Linus' company.
@@Namamiri I feel like the relationship history is misdirection.. It proved nothing. All he needed to say, if true, 'It didn't happen, I don't know this person or their daughter , and let's move on' But to go on about something off topic like relationship history is just getting people to focus on that instead of the actual topic.
The attack on linus is a really low blow, especially in the current time where it's a hot topic. Using that to defame someone is entirely unacceptable and IMHO warrants legal action. You acted in the best way by just addressing this straight away and going fully transparent. But personally I'd still take legal action (as in: at least report it to the police, perhaps just leave it at that as I don't think a lawsuit would do much (if at all) in a positive way). Not reporting it to the police would IMO be a disservice to legitimate victims as their stories are now being used for personal vendetta's resulting in less believability for the actual victims.
About half of marines aren't combat troops and only about 10% ever actually engage the enemy. The military did studies on this during ww2 and 2% of the soilders sent into combat zones did 80% of the killing. I'm a marine statement usually doesn't mean anything except its cool to say
Every military veteran or active service member who's pulled their veteran status that I've met has been using it as a crutch for their awful behavior and have genuinely been terrible people to be around. I've met plenty of veterans and service members who were awesome people, and none of them did that to try and assert any respect or authority. They didn't have to, they exuded it without any crutch.
Yeah, handling it like Linus did may actually harm other victims - those who are being falsely accused. I think he should try to go hard on this person and at least try to bring them to responsibility.
@@sawomirgut71 there are very few victims of false accusations. Most "false accusations" are just a result of people attacking or blaming victims of sexual assault. Frankly Linus handled this as perfectly as possible.
@@GoingtoHecq oh, there are plenty of them, you just dont hear about them in every media possible. Hopefully Johny Depps case will have some impact, but seeing how much time it took him to finally "prove his innocence" doesnt look promising
"we have NDA that prevent employer to reveal personnel information about their colegue" yeah in france we call that "The law" pretty sure Europe have something too for something so basic.
Colton actually got it going towards the end. Did it start well? No. But he got better along the way. Credit where credit is due, dude learns fast on the job.
Regarding vacuums: there is already a dedicated channel called Vacuum Wars which, I think, already nailed the testing methodology for vacuums. Definitely worth a watch - I never thought I could be so invested into watching reviews of vacuums 😁
I am not in the market for a vacuum right now but the channel seems worth a follow for down the road. I only watched one video so far but his testing methodology covered the necessities in a concise manner which is a good sign.
1:45:30 Or, as they were called in my grandfather's time, a briefcase. They were originally made to hold papers, (or if you were a lawyer, briefs,) or slide rules or stencils, and my grandfather (an engineer) gave me a couple of them. They are probably going to be useful again now that electronics have gotten thinner.
Very weird that this accusation against linus would be made imo. As a long time viewer of the show and of Linus in general it is clear to me he is a very socially and emotionally engaged individual. He seems to understand the unstated wants and needs of his employees which is one of the hallmarks of a good boss/employer.I am also not surprised in the least that his past with women being someone awkward in high school given his current line of work. As a computer and game nerd i was also deeply awkward in high school.
NICE copypasta. XD made my day sir. LMAO Anyway i think linus did a great job in transparency in this case but i think it's better to ignore it even if people think you are bad etc etc. but yeah i think we appreciate that Linus disclose all this upfront. And i think that email that he receives is just random Copypasta somewhere. iykwim
"Buck a day" computers were from MDG. Their sketchy sounding advertising was all over the place in the early 2000s. I think they even advertised in "The Computer Paper", which was everywhere - at least here in the Lower Mainland - back in the 90s-early 2000s. If you did the math the prices were crazy compared to the ads from the dozens of almost identical independent computer stores in Richmond all somehow within a 1 block radius (Cambie and #5 through Jabombs) of eachother.
Speaking of custom computers - LTT should do a collaboration with DIY Perks to build an actual custom computer. That guy makes some truly spectacular stuff.
Along the lines of having Steve come check out your fully built lab, you should invite some of the engineers you met from the Intels facility’s to see what they think!
Gotta get a screwdriver to Project Farm! 👍 Does a lot of tool reviews, 2.5mil subs, videos get ≈1mil views, probably will introduce you to a somewhat new audience as well
Thing is, if the allegations were true, surely the best bet is to go to the authorities. You know, the people who would investigate things like this. Going straight for staff and sponsors just screams of a smear campaign
Ayo! I just realized, what if it was the ceo of Artesian Builds?! That dude Noah Katz or Kattz or whatever that dickhead’s name is. I don’t think LTT has given their collapse as much coverage as Gamers Nexus, but if I had to suspect anyone who’d wanna damage Linus’ reputation (other than a disgruntled ex-employee).
@@TH3C001 Speculating on who did this is both unproductive and dangerous. A few assumptions could lead to individuals taking action against someone who had nothing to do with the situation. Please leave any investigation to authorities as none of this is under our jurisdiction.
I kinda chuckled when I heard that Marine bit. I hate ex service members that try to use their time in as some sort of clout. I was in the Marines too. You know what I did? Work on mobile air traffic control equipment. My average day consisted of ensuring testing equipment was calibrated and everything was functioning in case we had a surprise deployment. Sure, it was millions of dollars worth of equipment, but that's pretty common anywhere in IT. Sure, I had the bare minimum infantry training that everyone gets at MCT, but it isn't really that in depth compared to what the SOI and follow on opportunities for training do. Sure you were a Marine. What does that mean? It could mean you got to boot and cried and refused to train as I saw some kids do. I was in MRP healing from an injury during training and we saw one kid that came through that was like that. Ended up drinking a bottle of Listerine to get trashed. Didn't end well for him. Firewatch found him in the head that night three sheets to the wind and puking his guts out. They rushed him to the hospital that night and we never saw him again. Was he a Marine? I would say no. He never earned the EGA. Would a lifelong civilian know the difference? Probably not.
Regardless of your history whether it is spicy or puritan. Being put in a position where you have to speak on your private life is truly despicable. But I think you made the right choice. Truth and transparency will always be the right answer. I am sorry you had to talk about your personal sexual history like this so publicly Linus.
I am not a huge fan of "proving innocence" tactic, even if it's obvious. The burden is on the accuser, and I don't think that has been met yet. I say that we can't expect everyone to put their life on the internet just because some rando wrote a shitpost about how you raped a 12 yr old
On Overkill: That pricing is hardly surprising to me. For companies that focus on high end products/services, it is common to severely overprice more basic things to either scare off people who can't afford what you want to sell or provide a ton of profit to be worth it. You often can't just not offer the systems because then you have to deal with a ton of questions and stuff. But everything else in the story is just awful.
I pretty much read that as "if you're too poor or too smart to let us rip you off, we don't want your business." A sucker and his money are soon parted. Which is fine with me. They're free to gouge uncaring customers on nonessential goods. I'll just look elsewhere for what I want.
@@joesterling4299 With these guys, based on what they showed in their communications, maybe. But more generally it is more "We don't want to sell these, but if you really want to get our brand then you need to make it worth our while." I have been there and told prospective customers where to go to get what they want substantially cheaper from a vendor better positioned to assist them. But some people insist, for whatever reason.
@@reptarien Bingo. Like "Here are some accusations, but I'm not going to provide any proof, answer any follow ups, or go to any reputable media that would attempt to verify the story" K. So definitely not believing an ounce of that then.
Regarding the tea-cooled computer build for The Spiffing Brit, it also needs to have a warming plate to keep his cuppa from getting cold. (External USB, as accidentally spilling tea is a likely hazard.)
I interviewed with overkill, it was a paid interview but it was just a very odd work environment with little to no communication about how they wanted me to build the system or test it. Thank god I dodge that bullet but I will say the conversations I had with Lucas and the other employees I met were fine, they were all nice just not a lot of direction
@@General_Li_Shin it was like a trial run for a day of work there. I went in and built a system for them, benched and tested everything. It was fine but Lucas the owner disappeared that morning and I barely saw him again so no one know when I should get to leave or even take a lunch.
I had good interactions with them even with some differences of opinion and wasn't wild about some of the business choices they made but that was their choice. What got me was the C&D AND the threatening response. Cut ties and hope they learn from this and grow.
It's the same in the U.S. paid entry for a giveaway is a lottery. However, because of our Republic system of government. Laws against gambling vary state to state, and there's also a lot of weirdness with interstate commerce. It's possible they're in a state where it's legal, and they either can't make the giveaway open to all states or there's a loophole in their state's/federal law that allows them to giveaway via lottery to someone who might be in a state that doesn't allow lotteries. Or, it's entirely possible that they are just ignorant of or ignoring the law, and are just too small for anyone to really care right now.
It is far too easy for people to throw out baseless accusations in order to ruin someone's life, with little or no ramifications on themselves. False accusations both harm the person they are being made against, as well as those who actually have suffered said abuse etc.
The problem with denying that an incident happened, is that some people will simply say "that's what a guilty person would say!" It's a lose-lose situation, because an innocent person would make the same claim that a guilty person would - it didn't happen.
41:00 Linus: "How 'bout you pull out the Stacker 830?" Me: That mere child? I think my old InWin Ironclad with its *six* 120mm side panel fan slots (and modded with *three* 120mm front fans) just may justify its continued use despite its lack of cable management options, USB3, or glass. nVidia 40 series? Bring it! I'm ready.
Wish you guys would be as dedicated to uploading to Spotify on time as you are with RUclips. I listen in my commute in the car and it really throws my week out of whack everytime it's not up on a Tuesday! 😂
Whenever there are accusations of impropriety against a public figure, I usually tune out of that figure and conversation as either way it ends up being a really disappointing tale, either of a failure of justice for the victim, or the mishandling of the situation by the accused, or more. Thank you Linus for addressing this with grace - I hope you are being as honest as you always seem. I also hope that if there is a real victim here, that the campaign for justice finds its correct target, whoever that may be.
Especially since it's clear it's probably fake because the person send it to EVERYONE including ANY PARTHNER THEY COULD THINK OF, very suspicious, especially 20? Years later.
As a software engineer* I would love it if LTT dives into that space! Although gotta say, a lot of it is pretty dry, so might be hard to make it interesting. *it says engineering on my Bachelors Cert. so no one is taking that away from me, not even Canada.
Linus, whoever is sending this type of false accusations needs to end in jail. Fighting against false accusations of sexual assault is not fighting with legitimate victims of such crimes. Whoever says that this is the case is witch hunting and it is equally severe problem. With current state of media & affairs, not taking a decisive legal action against accuser will lead to more of that in the future and may damage whatever you build in life so far (which is ultimately what this person is trying to achieve). You should pursue this with utmost resiliency to make sure that accuser ends up labelled as a untruthful criminal for rest of their life.
re: 1:10:00 tea powered pc. water cooled with a hot plate for a kettle to keep his tea warm. a tea warmer plate. a small 120mm rad+fan as the first rad that sits just outside the case, on the side/front for spill safety, to push the hottest air across the kettle. it might be possible to OC the system to get the kettle to boil. not a tea cooled pc, but a PC powered kettle.
You can open source software and still have licensing in place where they are required to purchase it commercially to use it. Could also have an open source repo that has the core application, and a private fork which contains the commercial-esq features. You would be much better off open sourcing the tool, as it would grow and become more useful and have higher adoption, and could help to develop an automation standard/API that game developers could leverage themselves. Just some food for thought, as a developer and engineer (see what i did there).
I should probably have a word with my work about open sourcing our automated testing and QA. I made it all, and we have a "build fast break shit" approach currently due to doing it myself among other work and with the software the testers ask for, but already have a plan for a massively more standardised approach. Having that collaborated on would absolutely make it better for everyone involved I'm sure.
The thing is that they explained their "tool" isn't a benchmark, it's like a super macro. It runs a bunch of benchmarks in a specific way and then outputs the data into a specific format for their use. It's not a flexible tool and the only person who really knows how to use it is the one who made it. The point kind of seems to be once they start publishing it you can run the same benchmarks yourself, this is just to make it easier doing it hundreds of times.
@@saladgreens912 you should look up "feature flags". We can program things to output in all sorts of formats. Their "testing suite and standard" could just be another routing within the tool.
Don't ever go SI. If disclosing investing in Framework seems like a hassle, think about what having your own product line of PCs would do to the credibility of your PC reviews. Please stay focused and protect the credibility you have built
@@soccerguy2433 in this case I do. Linus and Team have done a great job of building a base of credibility. Credible media does not have monetary interest in the subjects they report on. That would undermine their independence. And this is not something that just changes.
I have had my backpack for 23 years. I took it everyday to work and on trips. I just picked it up off the shelf at Staples. It holds 2 laptops plus accessories and room for a change of clothes. Pockets for days. It's still fine. No idea what brand it is.
I don't know if Jay (Jayztwocents) would want to review the backpack or the screwdriver, but his thoughts on those would be cool! I guess Austin Evans with his team would probably do something fun with the backpack? Like a weird portable gaming setup or something? That'd be pretty neat. 1:50:00
Glad y'all took my red-white water bottle suggestion to heart! They look fantastic and ill definitely be picking one up when the 64oz drops! Been religiously using my 40oz one and its honestly the best bottle ive used.
About the blackmail email - get legal advice before you do anything else. We live in a world today where just the allegation - even without proof - is enough to make most sponsors run for the hills. Get some good legal advice and make an official statement to get ahead of it.
When I found that you needed to build a PC for the spiffing brit I was soo happy at the idea of 2 of my favorite creators geting together to male some content
Linus"I will never be a system integrator" also "why are these s.i's charging so much" lol I think some industries just bread scamy behavior especially when it's a small company. You should do a video on being a small s.i.
Until you can reliably ship hundreds of computers a month, you won't even be able to afford to be a real company. Think of being cash negative for 3+ years and trying to grow.
1:50:43 Colton totally wrote that merch message, lmao. His original answer to 'What's the worst part of your day?' was: Having to leave this place every day. lol
I recall a old school friend finally being able to finance a PC in the late 90’s and paid £2.5k for a pc that was terrible and just 6 months later would struggle with newer titles. He was paying that off over 4 years at a fairly high interest rate. Brutal lesson for us all.
Coming soon: STI (Linus Tech Integration) parts cost +69.42(0)$ for any build. Subscribers to Floatplane automatically get the premium "Anthony" package, where Anthony will personally tell someone else how to fix your computer after you brick it.
1:36:00 Drone and information warfare is the future and we're already mostly there. Ground troops will eventually only be to move in and occupy once enemy forces have been decimated or retreated. Why risk soldier's lives when your drones can do the fighting for you? It may also be able to be done with less collateral damage in the future if we get ground drones to operate tanks and fulfill basic infantry roles, obviously with a human pilot at a base, not an AI- that would be a recipe for disaster.
Great show, as always! The tea power must flow. But I do want to know if Luke is planning a muppets build now. For the ugly stuff. Hey I love the approach and insane transpancy . You rock Linus! And so does the whole team!
Concerning Luke's point: friends figuring out workarounds to not do in-game chat has always been a thing. And for us, if we couldn't, we'd just not bother with talking. Was never really worth doing in-game voice when we wanted to relax and play a lobby.
@@LukeLafreniere Well, I would hope these console companies wouldn't shy away because of this. I would, however, bet on "can't control" and the short-sighted "might help the competition" reasons as the main driving factors against it.
After being away from PCs and gaming for 4years, I feel I've missed alot, but tbf mainly prices! Not to mention I've been watching LTT for YEARS, I would stay up until 3am for the Wan Show on twitch, must be 8+ years ago now.... it is INSANE to see how much they have grown since. Well I'm back to my much loved hobby and will be checking in to get myself up to date!
Linus, I commend you in immediately going full transparency it's the only way to deal with these situations as hard as it can be to do. Though I will say you are wrong in not trying to go after this person, all you do when you don't is make it easier to victimize people in the future. It's your life and you make the decisions about it, but I do think allowing things like this to happen just makes it easier to dismiss any accusation.
I would love to see modular dividers for the the backpack. Something like the velcro pads you see in camera bags. The thing holding me back from wanting your backpack is not good way to secure my camera safely. A camera bag insert or somthing like that for the main pocket would be awesome. But also niche so I understand if it's not a broad enough market to get into.
Well handled Linus, keep your head held high. Your audience supports you and knows you are a genuine human being. I know somebody who went through the same and in the end he had his whole community behind him and the accuser lost all credibility. Most accusers and liars eat the dust and undo themselves in the end so you'll be all good.
So ... a rough guess ... 19:34 seems to be the start of where they start properly addressing this after theory-building. (not a dig, just for those that want to skip around the meandering)
When you have a legitimate accusation of rape, you don't blast emails left and right. You go to the authorities. This is clearly an effort to soil a reputation.
Taking action against false accusations is not silencing victims. Suing them will make people think twice about false accusations and less false accusations make the real ones more believable.
I know some people having their glass panels shatter from close to nothing. Like they should survive if you lean them up to the wall, and they slide down on the wood floor. A thing with tempered glass is that it is meant stabalize the material, and relieve the tention build up in the glass itself from the manufacturing
The goblin doesn't post much, but his builds are beyond epic. I have to be honest, when I saw that video yesterday of the low-rent Ali Express Spot robot clone with an automatic rifle taped to it's back, I thought "this stinks of Michael Reeves", but the lack of the robot dog taking breaks to piss on everything or electrocute random people while swearing ruled him out.
48:50 Just make 2 Sizes of beach sandales which could be cut down size and some kind of mounting device for the toes. shouldn't be that bad to produce since sandals are make out of mostly 2 parts
Regarding the allegations... It's the fact they went straight for the wallet and the staff that makes it unbelievable to me. If it was true, they should've went to the cops since there's no statute of limitation of that sort of things. But man, I always just LOVE when these kind of stories come out decades after the alleged events, because there's literally no way to prove them wrong at that point. It's your words against them. You literally can't win because that one thing will now sow the doubts of "maybe he did it" forever in the mind of the people.
It very rarely goes to the cops for real, but yes this isn’t a person talking about their experience, this is an absolute intentional defamatory attack (note the lack of name or details)
I zip tied my power strip to a horizontal rail that runs between my desk legs. The only cables you see under my desk are my subwoofer cables, cat5e cable and the power strip cord that's plugged in to the wall. They're tightly bundled and zip tied. Zip ties are the best cable management solution. Change my mind
As far as cybersecurity goes, I would LOVE a video on encrypting your PC for dummies. I bought SSDs with AES 256 whatever and have no clue how to use it. I figured since it was "hardware" that meant it was either automatic or there was a simple box to check or something, but apparently not. Windows tells me "your device not eligible for encryption" and a little digging told me that wouldn't have been on-disk hardware anyway.

I can confirm that Intel appearances on LTT and GN have significantly turned around my opinions on Arc. I won't be buying one right away, but their openness and apparent honesty definitely put Arc on my radar for a future upgrade.
i'm looking at them for H.265 hardware transcoding - these could be extremely useful for my plex server if they price them that aggressively
100%, I dont think I will be buying it because it doesnt fit my needs but I will defiantly be recommending it to others as intel has been upfront and open with arc and i think that should be rewarded.
Intel being this open about it is quite a nice story ARC
Same. I’m thinking about going from my 1070 SC -> Arc B/C7 whatever

I doubt they'll keep doing this long term. They're doing a really big push now because they must in order to have any chance at all.

All he needed to say, if true, 'It didn't happen, I don't know this person or their daughter , and let's move on'
But to go on about something off topic like relationship history is just getting people to focus on that instead of the actual topic.
@@theotherguy6155 Knock it off.
People who make false claims must face justice. If we don't address both the true and untrue allegations properly, it delegitimizes the whole system.
Thank you so much for putting Colton in charge of reading the merch messages.
His voice is so smooth for the job.
The moment he pulled the "I'm a Marine vet" card I lost all respect for him lmao.
lol. I said the same thing in a few other videos about that douche.
Yeah, as if that shows his good character.
About half of marines aren't combat troops and only about 10% ever actually engage the enemy. The military did studies on this during ww2 and 2% of the soilders sent into combat zones did 80% of the killing. I'm a marine statement usually doesn't mean anything except its cool to say
That’s their go to line for everything. Even his response video he mentioned that he was a marine and a vet like 5 times in a 2 min TikTok video.

Very weird that this accusation against linus would be made imo. As a long time viewer of the show and of Linus in general it is clear to me he is a very socially and emotionally engaged individual.

Regarding the "tea computer"...you could move the excess heat from the GPU to a hot plate on the top of the case, to keep his tea warm. 🙂
That sounds like a precarious place to keep a cup of tea.
It is far too easy for people to throw out baseless accusations in order to ruin someone's life, with little or no ramifications on themselves. False accusations both harm the person they are being made against, as well as those who actually have suffered said abuse etc.
The problem with denying that an incident happened, is that some people will simply say "that's what a guilty person would say!"
It's a lose-lose situation, because an innocent person would make the same claim that a guilty person would - it didn't happen.

@@annihilator4000 I saw that. I'd love if they kept it going. More stuff
🎓
So ... a rough guess ... 19:34 seems to be the start of where they start properly addressing this after theory-building.
(not a dig, just for those that want to skip around the meandering)
When you have a legitimate accusation of rape, you don't blast emails left and right. You go to the authorities. This is clearly an effort to soil a reputation.
Was half zoned out having this play in the background while I worked and was taken way off guard by those last 10-15 minutes lmao
Taking action against false accusations is not silencing victims.
Suing them will make people think twice about false accusations and less false accusations make the real ones more believable.
I know some people having their glass panels shatter from close to nothing. Like they should survive if you lean them up to the wall, and they slide down
on the wood floor. A thing with tempered glass is that it is meant stabalize the material, and relieve the tention build up in the glass itself from the manufacturing
Im surprised Linus thinks Maker builds are niche. William Osman. Michael Reeves etc. are tech maker youtubers that are massive
I cant leave things alone, so velcro straps allow me to quickly and easily rearrange things when I feel the need
In this episode, Linus goes full Hamilton and publishes his own version of the Reynolds Pamphlet.
To somewhat less disastrous results, I hope. :)
Just happy to see Greg Salazar mentioned. He has really good videos and he deserve all the views :)
Me too let's vote this up bois!
The comparison of the LTT Screwdrivers do other products at 1:50:29 immediately remindet me of ProjectFarm from the US. At least my go to for really detailed comparison of tools and equipment
That’s sad that you can’t talk freely and there are protected terms. Anyway, glad you guys put the nail in the coffin on overkill. As a vet, I hate other vets using their status as a scapegoat. 1,000% cringy. The CEO of overkill is trash
Lmao, “Professional Engineer” is a protected term in the US its not blocking freedom of speech because its for public safety. Just like you cant just say you are an MD without proper certifications
