Also a good idea to remove the driver seat and carpet to make pulling the hood release catch easier.

when you're replacing your low beam it's ALWAYS a good idea to do an engine rebuild

Saved so much time on my light bulb replacement thank you for the great comments! Whew pulled over watched the video now I’m back on the road in a record 10 hours! Beat that Big 3!
Removing the whole headlight or/and the bumper is not necessary!!!
You can take out the air intake assembly on the drivers side and have access to the bulb
On the passenger side, you can remove the ECU cover and box and access the bulb.
Takes all of 15 mins

You don't have to do that either...simply reach in and unscrew the bulb cover to access the headlight bulbs. The bulb springs holding the bulb in could have been designed better for easier removal...but they are workable
No need to remove bumper and light assembly to replace bulb!
Thank god!! Euro cars are hard enough to mess with. I just bought an 07 and it could use new assembly’s. My question is can you use an LED bulb with the standard housing?
@@Bizzenn1976 i think you need to get different connectors for it to work.
I have a 2002 Volvo V70 D5. I did not have to remove any body work or headlight. I just removed the bulb cover on the back of the headlight, pulled off electrical connector, followed by the bulb fixing spring/clip, then replaced the blown bulb, refix spring,electical connector screw back cover on. job done.

Did mine today, from inside bonnet. Remove black cover by hand, change bulb. Five mins tops!
Q: How many mechanics does it take to change a lightbulb in a V70 Volvo ? A: Only one . But the entire bumper, radiator and all of the belts need to be removed to get at the bulb in order to bill the Volvo owner as much as possible . This is CRAZY . I thought at first that it was one of those goofy spoof videos . Like , how NOT to change a headlight bulb .
All I wanted to know was how to replace the bulb NOT remove the whole assembly.

Just did my drivers side dipped beam bulb on a 2005 facelift v70. You definitely need small hands and ideally fingers like ET....but it is possible! Needed one of those small bendy self lit mirrors to check what I needed to do then did it by feel.
think ill manage without removing the headlamp assembly but great to have an idea what ill be doing without quite being able to see what im doing

My 07 XC70 uses H7 bulbs for the low beams. But the covers are not the screw type as shown in this video, but rather a simple rubber cap. Also the retaining spring is one piece, not two as shown. Finally, the housing is much deeper and I'm trying to replace the bulb without having to remove the bumper, but I just can't get it to line up in its proper position, mainly because there isn't enough room to hold the bulb and get my fingers in there. Any hints?
she did that for the video purpose.. you can just wiggle your way with hands in the engine bay then twist and flick and off you go...

I changed it with out removing the bumper. Just squish your hand in there and work with the limited space . Took me like 1/2 an hour to do one but I'm a beginner at car stuff so it took me a while but I'm not stupid enough to rip my car apart to change 1 light bulb

At 9:14 it was good to see how the retaining clip can be disengaged for bulb change. I think I will be able to do this without any bumper or body part removal. Instead I removed that box/sleeve that protects the engine control modules (silver colored) and that seems to provide enough room to change a low beam of passenger side of 2006 v70. The sleeve can be gently pulled up and out by pressing two plastic tabs. Mine came out easily. I may just need a small mirror to fully understand what needs to be pushed in but this looks like a small job - maybe 20 minutes if all goes well. No bumper cover removal involved.

Are you seriously suggesting that you have to put the car on a lift and take the front bumper off in order to change a lightbulb? Really? Gee, I wonder how I manage to change my lightbulbs by just taking the covers off like Volvo say you should in the V70 handbook... Laughable.
Mine is similar to this and it makes my blood boil so much I want to kick the living shit out of the arsehole that designed them as I have NEVER had to do more than take the bulb out of the back of the lamp and just replace it from behind the casing in EVERY other car I have owned.
I’m with you , Nick . I’m pretty sure there’s a lightbulb joke in here somewhere ! But also , is it not just possible to reach in and get at the headlamp assembly to get the bulb out ? Please correct me if I’m mistaken .
I'm pretty sure the purpose was to remove the headlight assembly in order to film a close-up of the actual clip and bulb. One look at it under the hood tells you it's pretty accessible!
I am blown away by Swedish Engineering . Remove the bumper to change a bulb ? This is like removing the ceiling of my living room and re-drywalling the ceiling for a light bulb change, when all you really should have to do is turning the bulb and replacing it ??? Happy to know newer versions have two plastic pull sticks holding the headlight ... new generation of Volvo Engineers ?

This actually looks doable without having to remove the bumper. I don't think it's the same all through 00-07, btw. At least not on the XC70, but I know the V70 is like little brother to it. The later half of the generation has a different headlight design and it's very tedious and cramped trying to change bulbs without removing the whole darn bumper.
Is this is weird. I just changed both headlights and his headlights and didn't have to take apart anything. it's very weird that you're taking the bumper a part?

So, all of this is only necessary if you are replacing the headlight assembly.
Oh my. It takes 2 mins to change from the top through the hood. Not 2 hours and dismounting half the car.
I wanted to change the light bulb myself, so I went and bought and installed a 2 post lift in my garage.
So I can't just change a bulb from my low beam? I have to take the whole front of the car apart?
I hope they don't bill the owner for this extremely extra work that's not required. Ten minutes top to replace a bulb..

This video is unnecessarily long and point less, just did The job myself, turn off The ignition, turn the lights to position 0, then, under The hood, remove the headlight back covers, get your hands in there and wiggle it out, there might be a clip which you have to press, then just remove the bulb and add your new One, push it back in and there, you saved yourself this terrible hassle portrayed in the video.
Hey Semke , I can only guess that ALL of this breakdown to replace a lightbulb is to grab as many billable hours as humanly possible for a 5-7 minute (over wise) job ! Kind of reminds me of that joke , I’ll post it above ... 👍🏼

No need remove bumper just remove air filter on passenger side n place a mirror behind to view inside lamp lol

I used a slightly alternative method - Lift bonnet, push pipe out the way, pull cap off back of light, reach in, remove bulb, push new bulb in, replace clip, drive off. Did it on the forecourt of a petrol station at night in under 5 minutes... and that included buying the bulb.

1A Auto helped me fix my window's plastic guides that cracked....but this???? There is no need to do this. Please, DO NOT take off your car's front end to change a bulb...get someone with smallish hands if need be, LOL

On my 07xc 70 all the headlight bulbs cause considerable trouble.
The people responsable for this should be repeatedly tortured till they learn better ideas....

Volvo no only uses anemic headlights, It makes then a few hundred to change. My v70 can easily out run it's headlights. must have learned from the Saab 9000 designer. can we have a hang a volvo designer party?
