@nathanblackburn1193 literally everything you said is the reasons why I don't like this design. Rare's DK is literally the biggest glow up in gaming and that's not just me it's practically undisputed so no he isn't ugly. I like the rest of the cast, maybe bowser looks a little too giddy but other than that I'm a big fan, they just really screwed their best designed character imo.
Well, Mario Kart 9 is trying to go for a more expressive cartoony approach so the design is only made for this game. Hopefully it’s just an alt and not a design they genuinely plan to use.
I love how people are making such a big deal over the new model when King Dedede gets a new design every different console a new kirby game is made and yet no one complains
The big difference is that the original DK game was a completely different beast from the Country series, Mario and Zelda stayed close to their roots but DK was changed completely from the original Mario dodging barrels formula.
I like his design more now, hes always had his arms shrunk down w the rare model to fit inside the cart. I love how theh adopted the clown in a small car look and made him actually look like big ass boi

The iconic model that turned the tide and helped nintendo win the 16-bit console war against sega has officially been replaced with the movie slop. No idea why, other characters look unaffected.
1:08 Nintendo has a history of destroying their own lore with unwanted baby characters. As good as yoshi's island was, it was also one of their greatest sins for what it started.
Gorillas are already adults when they're like 8. So DKC could happen as early as 10 years after DK 1980 and DKJR, if we assume Cranky was in his 30s in the arcade and Junior was like 6 at that time. If Junior had his son when he was 8, you would only need 8 more years for DKIII to be adult. Therefore if Mario is 24 in the mainline games, you could have him be 14 when he saved Pauline from Cranky. Some men can grow moustaches at 14.
The timeline makes more sense if we just go with DK being Jr. all grown up (which Leigh Loveday confirmed post-DK64, and Nintendo themselves went along with it until the 2010s or so). That way, Cranky being old and DK being a younger adult square up with Mario being in his 20s.
So that's why they made an entire themed land and a large full body mascot costume of Rare Donkey Kong to be in major Universal theme parks around the world. This is probably just a design they'll use when he's interacting with the Mario cast.
Yeah, the new DK model looks a bit off, but I can see the official DK in the model. Giving me a few off vibes. Pretty interesting stuff. Also, nice on your return to MarioHub!
1:19 to answer that question. In my theory, the Mario in the Donkey Kong arcade game you play as, was Mario's father OR grandfather. Since Cranky Kong was DK in the arcade game, that would explain why Donkey Kong JR exists in the second game. So, Mario and Donkey Kong's families have been rivals for a long time.
This was disconfirmed years ago, if you’ve played Odyssey, the events of the original donkey Kong serves as one of the main plot lines in new donk city so no this theory is just not correct.
@@LMS5935It wasn’t exactly deconfirmed. No one explicitly mentions the events of the original Donkey Kong, and Pauline wasn’t even the damsel in that game. She was created for Donkey Kong on Gameboy (also known as DK 94). The original damsel was just named Lady.
@@rendelldraw no this was also disconfirmed in Odyssey, we quite clearly see that Bowser remembers all the classic original 2-D games because when Mario possesses him Mario 1, 3 and world along with 64 appear in his memories, they all happened thus the 2-D series and 3-D series are the same universe.
@@rendelldraw not to mention Miyamoto pretty much said that all Mario games are considered canon and have happened in a shape or form to the character of Mario. So it seems as long as the game was made by Nintendo every Mario game is considered canon.
The eyes on the new design just look off. The space for them is the same size as before but the eyes are much smaller and right next to each other in the middle. As a result the brown area around the eyes is much bigger than before and it looks off.
Make movie designs skins. We already have enough variant characters. Character variants tend to just take spots from unique characters that could have been there
1:30 IF you pay attention in the Mario Movie, the older man who is in marios family (his dad) is Charles Martinet, The original voice of Mario. However he voices ANOTHER one,, a man you can see playing the first mario carcade cabinet. His color matches the swapped colors of mario but design looks reminiscent of the older one. That's most likely jump man, and he even does the iconic jump. Essentially what I'm getting at is: Mario may not have been the FIRST mario. There may have been a few, and it simply skipped a generation
Regarding Donkey Kong and Mario: the Game Theorists have a video from 2015 talking about there are TWO Marios. So the one who battled Cranky Kong isn’t the same one who became friends with Cranky’s grandson (and they’re about the same age, given that they were both babies at the same time [as shown in Yoshi’s Island DS])
Sad how some are now throwing tantrums thinking like it's an ugly Sonic situation. Looks like only quite a few are familiar with the NES artstyle . 🤦🏽♂️
I like the redesign of Donkey Kong, it brings a lot of personality and goofiness (at least to me) and I'm excited to see him in game once Mario Kart 9 comes out
If they do add new racers to Mario Kart from Tour, I do hope they add a lot of the unique character ones that have seen popularity in recent years, such as Monty Mole. I also think the new model might just be a result of art style shift in-game, but idk.
Here’s a wild idea that’s probably wrong: it’s actually Donkey Kong Junior but they changed how he looked in the trailer to hide his inclusion in the game
Idk what bro is on about, movie Mario? What? I pray they're not THAT lazy, surely just have it been a skin, not a variant like the guys saying like gold mario
I’m sure there will be controversy about the redesign, but he personally I’m open and excited about it, not for any particular reason I might just be over excited that Nintendo is actually doing something and Donkey Kong is I feel the most noticeable change making it so he will be talked about a lot until April 2 and I’m fine with hearing about Donkey Kong until then, it gets people talking about it and that makes me excited
I think it’s just for this one game, all the characters shown in the trailer look closer to the original Mario Kart models, Mario is way more squat, bowsers outline is a lot more cube shaped, they all just look more chibi in general. But if they did redesign him permanently I’d welcome it, sometimes you need to revamp characters and donkey Kong for the past 30 years has had the same design, which was made by a company that now belongs to Microsoft
If you look up in Wikipedia or any site... They said gorillas live around 30 years... Donkey kong design from DK Country is 30 years now.... Well... Maybe... Donkey died... 😢 Long live Donkey Rare Design!!
I think Nintendo never really accepted the Rareware input on DOnkey Kong. They lived with it for 30 years but it's clear to me they never intended for that many Kong added, nor they wanted that huge retcon of Cranky being the original Donkey Kong (to me Nintendo never approved this, it went under the radar and ended up in Donkey Kong Country manual). What we are seeing here is Nintendo finally restoring the original vision for Donkey Kong.

@@LMS5935Aren't the single-player 3D Marios it's own thing/separate timeline and is its own canon?
@@rendelldraw no this was also disconfirmed in Odyssey, we quite clearly see that Bowser remembers all the classic original 2-D games because when Mario possesses him Mario 1, 3 and world along with 64 appear in his memories, they all happened thus the 2-D series and 3-D series are the same universe.
@@rendelldraw not to mention Miyamoto pretty much said that all Mario games are considered canon and have happened in a shape or form to the character of Mario. So it seems as long as the game was made by Nintendo every Mario game is considered canon.
So I looked it up, and yes, Donkey is a slang term that means idiot. But Nintendo of America were, ironically enough, being Donkeys themselves.
The eyes on the new design just look off. The space for them is the same size as before but the eyes are much smaller and right next to each other in the middle. As a result the brown area around the eyes is much bigger than before and it looks off.
Anyone who likes this isn’t a donkey Kong fan
They should remake Rare's DKC games in pre rendered looks. How it looked on the cover, instruction booklet etc
What’s weird is that in the new dkc park the mascot costumes for dk are like the rare design
Make movie designs skins. We already have enough variant characters. Character variants tend to just take spots from unique characters that could have been there
if mario kart 9 now have the 24 players i can think for the next smash game will feature this too

IF you pay attention in the Mario Movie, the older man who is in marios family (his dad) is Charles Martinet, The original voice of Mario.
So the one who battled Cranky Kong isn’t the same one who became friends with Cranky’s grandson (and they’re about the same age, given that they were both babies at the same time [as shown in Yoshi’s Island DS])
true evidence that Miyamoto was more jealous of rare than he wanted to admit
Sad how some are now throwing tantrums thinking like it's an ugly Sonic situation.
Looks like only quite a few are familiar with the NES artstyle . 🤦🏽♂️
I like the redesign of Donkey Kong, it brings a lot of personality and goofiness (at least to me) and I'm excited to see him in game once Mario Kart 9 comes out
Same here
No
But What about MIIS? From 2006 THEY DO NOT GET ANY RESPECT FOR 19 years
With how successful they have been for so long, It was only a matter of time before Ego at Nintendo starts to set in.
They made an entire part of a theme park using the old design… idk if they’re gonna up and change it lol
I wouldnt be against Donkey Kong being redesigned, but I definitely prefer the rare design so I'd more than happily see it stay
Honestly, losing the "radical 90s" marketing art style and returning to the Mario Bros 3 manual art style might be awesome
2:55 Like Sonic games where Movie Sonic is a different character and you can select it instead of the regular one or the classic one?
Idk what bro is on about, movie Mario? What? I pray they're not THAT lazy, surely just have it been a skin, not a variant like the guys saying like gold mario
Maybe their skins in the game
This new movie version looks outright hideous
Man I picked a good time watching this video while I happen to be wearing my donkey kong shirt lol
Why Rogan kong Nintendo? Why have you cursed us!!!!!
Donkey kong for gameboy Features the same dk design with the red tie. It also has pauline looking fairly modern and it came out in 94
Yall talking, yall don't want that donkey king country animated series version 😂😂😂
Nintendo will NOT give this man another game
I hope to God its not the end
Well To Be Fair That Redesign For Donkey Kong Wasn’t That Bad At All.
It looks kind of like a mix between the rare donkey kong and the old arcade version of donkey kong
I thought the same thing. People are going crazy for nothing 😅
#NotMyDonkeyKong
DK is getting the King Dedede treatment
If you look up in Wikipedia or any site...
They said gorillas live around 30 years...
Donkey kong design from DK Country is 30 years now....
Well... Maybe... Donkey died... 😢
Long live Donkey Rare Design!!
I don’t like his new design at all
Personally I love the new design. Fits better with the rest.
Bro that 2d art has been around fir a long time now.
Keep in mind that DK isn’t the only character who looks different in the screenshot.
