I had a raid leader from the start of BC who yelled, shamed, tricked people into harder raids, wanted the prestige of being one of the top server guilds, hated farming gear etc. As a result the majority of the raid was very undergeared. We held our own because of having good players and we eventually finished BC.
He started punishing people in wrath when we had more people than raid slots. Your screen shot reminded me of it. It eventually got to the point where he made two raid groups, A-team and B-team. A-team was his friends and players who didn't argue with him. B-team was everyone else. Its not hard to guess what happened. B-team did better than A-team, so much so that they grabbed 3 server first kills in Ulduar in the first night of their existence. I left the A-team as I reached my breaking point with the RL. We were third to kill Yogg on our server. RL had a spit and kicked everyone out of the guild that night. It was hilarious.
Him and his friends then spent the rest of the xpac trying to get down Yogg. They eventually did it near the end of the xpac (way overgeared) but had to transfer off the server because they had become a joke.
B-team succeeded because the RL was a no nonsense guy who listened to his raid, kept an eye on everyone's gear, helped people who were unsure of something, and wasn't afraid to say he was wrong.

I recently went through a similar conversation with my son (16), who is now playing WoW on his own account after watching me play it since he was a young child. I explained it to him like this:
There are many types of raid groups... loot collectors, progression killers, social time, parsers, speed clearers, and the list goes on. You need to determine what type of player you are first. You then need to determine which days and times are good for you and your other hobbies and obligations. This creates your raid schedule and determines what type of guild you are looking for.
Once you do that, you need to search around for a guild to find a like minded group that raids on your schedule. That group may be on your server... it could be on a different server... it could be on a different faction... it could be in a different region.
If the guild's raid schedule isn't quite right you, it will eventually cause a problem. If the guild's prevailing raiding goal does not match your own, it will eventually cause a problem. There is a reasonable chance you were not honest with yourself during your assessment. There is a reasonable chance the guild misrepresented itself. People are easily confused between what they think they want and what they actually want.
At this time, he is still trying to figure out exactly what he wants to do. He will most likely end up with a guild that comfortably clears most of heroic and a few bosses on mythic since that is more in line with what he really enjoys, which happens to be parsing.

    • @deathbower
      @deathbower 5 лет назад +1

As player who goes through phases, including parsing phases, I would say that going for parses is all well and good, but gets very frustrating very quickly if your fellow raiders are just after the kill, no matter how messy the kill is. When it comes to the patchwerk fight of the raid (I guess Champions or Grong), the guild will reliably 1-shot them but a messy kill robs you of the chance to parse well for an entire reset, which is the most angering aspect of raiding for me when working on my parses.

Just wanted to chime in and say when I used to play WoW I was one of those Heroic only raiders. I'd fill in for a spot sometimes during Mythic fights until the core members could show up, and I'm more than capable of performing at that level, I just can't be bothered to do the 300% more work to get there. Farming mats for pots/flasks/enchants/gear, as well as AP and the hours upon hours of wiping just isn't my idea of a fun time. I totally understand the mindset for it, and I know how exhilarating it can be to finally down that boss, the commitment is just too much for me. Heroic is only marginally more challenging than Normal, so I'm not falling asleep at the keyboard, but it's not soul-crushing like Mythic. I can do the difficulty. I can't do the tax. So thank you for shedding some light on those players like us who are happy settling for 2nd best. :)

The Heart of Azeroth level issue is one of finding a raid team with similar time investment and mindset. I've been in guilds where the norm was for raiders to spend no more then 5 hours online in a week (Mostly older players with more real world taxes on their time), for that group farming neck levels would require almost all their non-raiding time and would be a non-starter.
The important thing (IMO) is to find a guild where the other raiders are willing to put in a similar amount of time and effort, or where you don't mind putting in a little more then others.

This needa to get Highlighted Preach because this is literally spot on.....so many times I've joined a guild where ppl dont even do keys they literally just log on for raid night...super casual...and tbh it burnt me out of raiding because its not fun carrying ppl that arent willing to get better skill wise or even gear wise outside raid...it became unfair to me and felt like a waste of time or a job....finding a likeminded guild with ppl that have simliar schedules is key...it may even req a server transfer unfort. the game is way more enjoyable tho with a decent grp of ppl u can become friends with and grow together....in every area of the game not just raid.

I left my raid team two weeks ago over frustrations that were SO SIMILAR to the person who tweeted you that I honestly went back to see if they were in my guild. (I knew they weren't when they said they'd joined two weeks ago, since that's impossible. My guild doesn't recruit.) I think your communication point it spot on, it's not the lack of progression that caused me to leave but the frustration build-up over weeks of not knowing WTF we were actually doing. That said, my guild flat out doesn't recruit (entirely separate cause of frustration, that is) and I think the reason we do dumb shit like save Mythic kills for the last raid of the week is because the raid leader knows people don't show up on Sundays, so he tries to keep the Mythic loot as incentive to actually show the hell up. Which sucks ass because previous content takes longer AND if people don't show on Sunday still (let's be honest, the people not showing on Sunday don't care that much about loot since they clearly don't care that much about raiding in general) we have to suffer through 18 manning Champion of the Light.

  • @AlmostAnyGame
    @AlmostAnyGame 5 лет назад +1

Communication in a team is absolutely crucial to it's success in any environment, particularly from the leader(s). If the group members don't know what the leader wants, the group will never function properly. That's just flat fact. You can't meet expectations or hit goals if they aren't clearly defined unless it's sheer accident. Sure, your group may down Mythic Grong because the Raid Leader pointed you at it and said "Kill." but if you don't know why it'll take you 10x longer than a guild that's motivated and happy to do it (with equivalent skill and gear, of course). Absolutely solid video Preach, would love a series in the future about maybe starting/running a guild if you've got any insight on that? I'd love to start a raiding Heroic/Mythic guild but I feel like I'll be absolutely swamped with trying to get things done AND handle real life, as well as trying to recruit and all that.

one example was me and my guild were on Heroic Avatar in Tomb of Sargeras, and we were constantly running out of the platforms in the lower room with the boss being at 3% - 4% HP remaining. I made a suggesstion about using the vantus runes I stockpiled earlier that day, and the RL said "No, we don't need them." We would continue to wipe on Avatar until the final pull where I took it upon myself to give everyone a vantus rune. We all used them, and on THAT pull, we downed the boss with half the platform in the lower room remaining. I was properly benched for three weeks for my insubordination, but I still stand by my decision to give my raid team those vantus runes this day.

It feels like everything is about communication. What does the raiders want, what does the raid leader want, what does the GM want?
If the GM and RL(they don't need to be same person) wants to be a mythic guild and the raiders doesn't want to be mythic maybe it's time for a new home.
Regarding that the first 3 bosses are easier.
My guild ended on 4/8 M uldir, imo because roster problems(in the last 2 months we had 3 raids because otherwise we where around 15 online). We killed Zekvoz after 151 wipes, waiting for some people understand how to survive overlapping mechanics. If you are new to the guild, no issues that you die. If you die and have 150 pulls before, why don't you learn?

I've steered away from hardcore raiding more recently, for the most part. Before a change in raid leads, we had one that would not take advice from ANYONE. It was his way and his way only. Needless to say, this is the same guy that comes to raid unprepared (no flask/food/pots). Our new raid lead has more of an open ear to strategy shifts if one isn't working the way it should, but we still have those people that just don't seem to want to be there and just zone. I mean it is a bit different going from Heroic to Mythic than going from MC to BWL. I would argue MC to BWL is a linear progression path from one piece of tier content to another and the other is the same content, but harder for better gear. A better comparison would be like saying you've completed BoD and then 15 people in the guild saying they don't wanna do Crucible of Storms.

I am having very similar problems raid leading a guild at the moment and had to do something similar to the story at the start recently. I had to prioritise the guilds kill profile over the desires of the raiders because we are constantly short of people and there just isn't enough raiders to go around right now so I extended the lockout to get Jaina HC killed. I try my best to communicate this stuff with the guild through discord pins and by talking to them during trash but I still find that no matter how hard I try many of them just don't understand why a guilds kill history is more important right now to get people to pick us than a couple bits of maybe loot from spending all night on Grong with 17 people. 3 times in as many months we have had small groups of players talk on /g about how much the officers are crap and aren't even trying and then just leave to go and start their own mythic guild together, and all 3 of those new guilds are now dead and I am being pressured to start accepting these people back to make up the numbers. I really don't want to take them back even if it means not progressing yet, am I being too stubborn or is keeping known dead weight out of the group better as I think it is? I'm pretty new to raid leading and I am really having a hard time understanding how to build this team into something worthwhile when I can barely get 20 average people into the group week after week let alone develop a strong core of decent raiders. I know people are getting unhappy and I try hard to enforce a set of rules that are conducive to a successful raid environment but it really is so hard when I face the fact that I can tell people they must sign up or they aren't invited for example, so we can plan the raids ahead of time but the reality is even if I back down and take the people who refused to sign up we still only manage 18 people with 2 crap people quitting the guild and 2 crap people being recruited in the same space of time. I don't want to quit but I'm banging my head against what feels like an impossible task with not enough progress to get the decent people to join and not enough decent people joining to get the progress. Ok rant over.

listen this is gonna be a shitty time no matter what. swallow your pride, and even your standards, to get bodies in. This is the growing pain that every single guild ever must struggle with. That weird half-way point where you finally have about 10 truly decent players and that's it. the rest are unreliable, or not good, or whatever. you need progress in order to recruit and you need bodies in order to progress.
Take back the shit heads. Take any other crappers you can fish up, anyone that shows even a remote interest in raiding. take them all. keep your attitude neutral and your standards low. for now. get some small amount of progress. whatever you can squeeze out of the turds you had to take. once you have just enough progress to start getting decent players in, throw those recruitment posts up. Trial anyone and everyone. This will be a long, slow, arduous process. But, if you can be patient, and keep sight of the end goal, you will eventually wind up with 20 reliable, decent players, plus a few more hopefuls on the bench. trust me, this will eventually happen.
However, like I said, you will most definitely have to go through the phase where you're literally scraping the bottom of the barrel.
It's either that, or ditch the guild and find a new guild that's got better progress. Start at the bottom of said new guild and work your way up.
Those are the options my friend.

GMOD is a great way to communicate, unfortunately some people ignore the guild message of the day completely. Don't ask me why or how, it just seems that in my old guild we would put up the GMOD on Mondays (we were a weekend raiding guild) and come the following raid days people would have not prepared or have no idea what was going on. Like WTF!?!!? Also it seems (in my experience this expansion) people don't check the calendar.

what i learned over the years is that in "weaker" guilds farm nights and morale boost they give is crucial and extremly important . i agree with all of your points but i still would value killing first boss on mythic more and only then moving to Jaina because of how big morale boost people get from nice shiny gear. because on this level of raiding gear >>>> anything.

I think whoever asked a bout this obviously needs to have a chat with his raid leader. In my guild for example we sometimes do other content than progression because people kinda get burned out when trying to progress (and wipe) for a entire evening so we fit in some easier(farm) content so we can have a less stressful/ chat-raid.
But then again that depends on what the goals are for the guild.
That's why you need to talk to your raid leader... do the goals of the guild line up with my personal goals for the game(do it outside of raid tho, no reason to annoy 18 other ppl during raids)

I had a raid leader in WoD who probably shouldn't have raid leaded, but he was doing all the wrong decisions. we were on highmaul cleared all the bosses except the last one, but he wanted to go on heroic. I told him "no man we are only two people who can pull their weight in the raid you( unholy DK) and me (surv hunter at that time). he was no no we are ready oh we killed Kargath which was easy but after that wipefest wipefest. I asked him hey are we going to go on normal just to gear people up. He said people are well geared. I'm like "guy look at the dps meter, all other dps are WAY below what they are suppose to be doing. I'm all up for sticking with your guild, but heroic is not something you shoul look into just yet." He didn't listen so I quit and faction change to an horde guild and cleared heroic with a group that was ready. A good raid leader knows what his group can or can't do.

Well if someone has an advice for me, I'll take it:
I play in a casual guild, we cleared BOD in normal and are working our way through Heroic.
I enjoy raiding because it's just a fun time for me, I wouldn't mind more difficulty or ambition but I don't think I have the time to commit to it.
Aside from raiding, I do m+ a lot, in a casual way (like, I'm not trying to push +20's but we're working our way slowly to +15).
The "team" I do m+ with are "leftovers". Basically, there was only one m+ team in the guild (the two GM's, the RL, a guy and me) but I got suddenly ignored when a more geared healer and someone who was in the guild for a longer time than me, came back to play.
I was a little annoyed but I was honest with my own skills -> It was my first time playing as a healer, which is now my main, and I was still learning.
I played mostly with pick ups and managed to push higher keys than they ever did.
Season 2 rolls around and by way of fate, I got grouped with 3 other guys from the guild to do m+. We get along really well, like real friends well. So we played a lot together and started pushing higher keys than the GM's and RL group. It wasn't really an ambition at the time, it just worked out that way.
One of the GM went batshit crazy on us on discord for "not playing with other people" (there only 4 of us so we always do a rotation with a dps from the guild if one is available and geared. Also, I have more time to play than others so I did a lot of carries to help other level up their gear or their rerolls), that we are "not sharing with the guild" (as far as I have missed Uldir one night and same for BOD, we do carries, I always do potions and feasts for the raids, and I give anything for free if I'm asked. I also always give away the gear I don't need if I loot), that we "pick our team" (which they do as well, clearly but also everyone knows you're not going to push keys if you take with you people with really bad dps, and also, I go and help there people push their keys!!).
The other GM (they are a couple) would just post passive-aggressive message in the guild chat the whole time.
I was baffled by the whole thing and honestly put it down to the fact that they were jealous and wanted to access the same key level but instead of just asking us if we could either do their keys with them or that one of them would join us so they could have a chance at a better key the next week, he just yelled at us.
Said we were "putting competition in the guild" and "shunning people out", which we weren't, we were just playing and taking with us guildies which had the dps to come.
I realized afterwards that they were annoyed because they like to "compose" their m+ team and as we were playing together, we were not "available" whenever they wanted.
That THEY don't like to playing with people who don't have yet the gear or dps, so they would rather that we deal with them.
It lasted a week and a half, I was walking on eggs and dreading every time I came online that I would get another earful.
I was really close to quitting the guild but stayed because of my friends and because... the guild just doesn't have enough people for a good raid roster.
We started BOD with a dps switching to healer every raid night because I was the only person playing healer.
So they managed to find two new healers :
    - A friend of a member who had just quit her guild and was used to play at a higher level
    - A guy who used to be in a mythic progression guild until now
(we are a really casual guild so don't ask me why he wanted to join, I have no clue).
Anyway, both have a lot of experience raiding and I told them I didn't. Also, during Uldir (we had two permanent healer then, one who left the guild and the other one who switched to dps), we never coordinated healing so I said that I would be happy to take in any advice and/or coordination we could create.
The friend would always criticize my choice of healer (I main a MW) with the RL for weeks, which was irritating me but I honestly do not want to fight on it. I like my MW and we're a casual guild so I don't think I need to switch. Plus, they never asked me or suggested that I do so.
She also said that she doesn't get along with other women (which I am) and decided to become the boss of healers in raid.
I don't really care who is the boss, but instead of having a plan and explaining it while talking strategy before the boss, she doesn't say anything and then yells at me or makes snide remarks after a wipe about my healing. (By the way, I consistently hit around 30k hps, and she's around 15k. I look at my logs and they are pretty all right for our level so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong).
I don't mind constructive criticism, but I can't read minds. If I'm not aware of the plan beforehand, I can't stick to it.
The other progression guy come to every raid night and basically contradicts and speak over our raid leader and his plans (to the point that the RL almost quit as he knew the guy from before and didn't want him to join the guild in the first place).
So now, I go to raid with a heavy heart because I'm getting yelled at by one person, the RL and the guy have fights, the planning is so confusing with three people basically trying to be the RL, and because there's all this tension because of the m+ situation.
I try to be cool about it, but it stills makes it less fun when you feel like a bunch of people in the guild are criticizing you behind your back and hating on you just for playing a game FOR FUN.
I just don't find it enjoyable as much to play with the guild (aside from m+ and I show up for raids) and decided to spend more of my time on my rerolls (which are not in the guild because the goal is to have some "chill time" not to be bothered every hour to go help someone push a +5).
    However, that feeling is lasting.
Last night, I was online to go push some keys and one of the GM had a nervous poop in the chat because she demanded one of our dps switches to their group to help push a key. Rendering it impossible for us to play (as we don't play with pick ups at higher keys) so I just switched to my reroll.
I don't think I have a clear question but I wonder if I should just quit the guild or if I should stay and "let it go" (if I can)?
I can't really stay in that middle ground "I play with them the bare minimum" because this is not what my idea of wow or being in a guild is like.
    Thoughts?
For information, there's only about 9-10 players who are geared for higher keys, the rest of the raid team isn't (5 people) and the rest of the guild does neither raid or m+.
It's a tiny guild, and the "level" difference was blamed on "my" team...

If an update matters to anyone, here it is :
The GM went craycray again and decided to kick the Raid Leader as he took our defense. Bear in mind, the RL has been playing for 10 years in the guild and is IRL friends with them. Not anymore, I guess.
I was waiting to see if I'd get kicked too. I just wanted to see who they would kick basically and how.
They waited until no one from the guild was online to kick my friends and I. Another one quit because he was so done with this BS. So now, there's 6 of us out of this guild.
They also sent each of us the same message about "I have nothing against you but we needed to clear this situation and the best way was to get rid of everyone at once".
You shot yourself in the foot man.
The 6 of us were deciding wether to split up or try to join a guild together (but which guild is going to take in half a raid roster...) when we saw someone from our (now previous) guild in Boralus. He /s to us that his dream was to make his own guild so we decided that we'd join as long as we get to do our m+ and eventually raid.
It's now done. We all joined a new guild.
As the evening went on, more of our (previous) guildies logged on and saw that the usual players doing m+ on Sunday nights were not online, so one of them /w me asking what was up, why we left the guild.
I tried to say what happened, but they already knew as the GM was just spewing hatred on us behind our backs to people who had nothing to do with the "issue".
I told them about the new guild, and they quit our old guild to join us. We almost have a full raid roster now as basically, their entire raid roster left as well as guildies who just played m+ with us. It took less than an hour :'D
I find it hilarious that I got yelled at because my friends and I "didn't play enough with the rest of the guild" and "are not friends with the rest of the guild", when in fact, they left as soon as we did because we played more with them than the GM themselves.
I'm looking forward to this new adventure and hopefully, we'll be in shape to raid soon.
(I did look to "move up", but I'm not certain I will have time in the next few months to dedicate to a more hardcore progression. If I end up feeling the need to move up, I'll see what I'll do then)
      Thanks for all your advices.

End the tier to get CE before the next no more no less. We killed mythic G'Huun 3 weeks before BoD starts. Despite all these feats of strenghts, some guys just quit with no warning, some never show up again.. But this is life folks. From Uldir mythic to now, there is just me , a friend of mine , my hpal and my holy priest , everyone else is new. But our roster is now better than it ever was. Communication is the key to all folks, I'm handling all stuff by myself and get shit done. I evict people who are bad and dont wanna get better, I evict people who always rant (What's surprising is that its not the best players). But I'm enjoying it, dont rage dont yell just do. If you feel that you comrades dont do enough talk with them talk with your officers if It doesnt get better move on. There are different levels of " farming " that people have. For me, doing every/nearly every AP quest on top of doing your weekly set of islands is farming because they don't really offer much else as alternate rewards. Unless you are spamming islands for pets and shit, which I wasn't.
Then to some people doing that is just normal and farming would be doing all that on top of meticulously spamming mission table + taking time to grind extra island expeditions. So while many people might not go to this extreme, not everyone has it in them to drag themselves through spamming world quests each day and honestly that's the main way you'd be 40+ so early on

    • @Melodeath00
      @Melodeath00 5 лет назад

@@Zasaramel Doing every single AP WQ each day most certainly counts as farming. There are many other ways to get extremely efficient AP though. Doing every single Emissary, IE weekly cap, missions, Warfront mats hand-ins, single mob kill AP WQs or just random AP WQs that happen to be in your path as you're doing anything else in the world. On top of that, you will also get a decent amount of passive AP from your in-game activity of choice: Raiding, M+, Arena, BGs.
You will not be 45 if you're purely raidlogging, but it's very possible if you're only doing the efficient stuff mentioned above. 10% away from 45 myself as I'm writing this, and I have NOT kept up with everything I mentioned above, and most certainly never farmed IEs for AP.

I joined a guild at the start of hfc, I hit the jackpot there since it was just what I was looking for. We would progress through hc and mythic until meeting the very hard bosses (Star bro on Nighthold for example). I had so much fun with them until we reached M Zek'voz and everyone's interest pretty much died.
After that I have been wandering between guilds. In the one I am right now, in mythic Grong prog, the Gm refused to kick any of our four rogues (2 with shit dps) to make room for our actually good lock (We didnt have any other lock so we would be getting healthstones too) because he came 40 minutes late and it would be unfair for the people who showed up on time. Next week Im back on the road, dont know how long I can handle this.

@Terrabreak133 A few questions about your new guild and current predicament. 1) What percentage were you guys wiping at? Unless you guys were close to downing the boss, it is unlikely that the warlock coming in would have realistically changed much of anything. 2) Why was the warlock late? Was the lateness pre-communicated or did he just show up late and simply expect to get into the group whenever he arrived just because he is a "good" lock in the guild?

I've been lazy with World Quests in Season 2 and I still have 45 now. I'm mostly not because I know it's capped at 50 so it feels like in ~5 weeks I'll be done no matter if I'm lazy or not.

Seeing the footage of Nefarion Heroic makes me miss those days. Blackwing Descent was one of the funnest raids to get Heroic.
Omnitron Defense System (1st or 2nd boss) was a joke on Normal, on Heroic it became one of the more difficult fights.
Nefarion HC however was nerfed countless times because guilds just couldn't get past! Very good raid indeed.

Preach, I realized that the chance of a reply is slim but you miss all the shots you don’t take.
I’ve recently returned to the game after playing BFA for a week on my beloved paladin and being gutted that I didn’t enjoy it anymore. Losing my main since vanilla was just to much.
I still got the itch and came back and boosted a warlock. I wasn’t aware about their outstanding position I just always wanted to play one.
Now my question is about finding a guild and avoiding pitfalls. I don’t want to be a mythic raider anymore, just heroic and maybe the first 3. I’m just not sure how to find a guild for this.
I’m aware that there’s tons of HC guilds around. However I don’t know how to find one that is HC by choice. I might sound arrogant but I’m a decent player I don’t struggle with HC content.
I’m not sure how to find a guild that isn’t just doing HC cause they can’t handle it. I don’t mind whiping I’m just afraid that the quality of players isn’t that great. How do you find a guild of players that could do higher content without them having the ambition to do so?

As a healer main since early TBC, the amount of truth in that statement hurts. I’ve heard people lay all kinds of wipes at the feet of the healers when it was compounding mistakes that caused the death(s).
Quick example would be a heroic council in Antorous that stands out in my memory. We had what I would consider a carry group with us - our core raiders were running some alts and guild mates through heroic to get them their AOTC and some gear. Because about half the raid were “socials” who’d never seen a heroic encounter, the run was very messy. Our first pull on council we wiped because of mines. A random social hunter said in discord “healers need to wake up” and a few people agreed. The problem was we had two healers from the core team who were overgeared and parsing in the 95th percentile. The next pull we killed it easier, and both myself and the other core healer were jokingly bemoaning having bad parses because there wasn’t enough damage to be healed. Because no one was handling mines with the LFR strat of just ignore them and if you set them off you set them off nbd.

I remember during Antorus after we cleared Heroic and could easily farm it, the second I mentioned "I'd like to try the 1st boss on Mythic and see how we do, just an hour or 2" we had about 5 or 6 people immediately say no thanks and they basically stopped raiding period. Mythic is this stigma where everyone expects you have to pay the Mythic tax when you're 4 months into a raid and its the 1st boss that you overgear by a full 10 ilvls lol. Mythic 1st and 2nd boss is often easier than last 3 on heroic depending on the raid. As a GM/raid lead it was crazy getting called Mythic elitist because I had interest in trying 1st boss on mythic, in month 4 of the raid lol. It was just a suggestion and we ended up losing about 3 or 4 raiders by suggesting it lol.

I have 45 too and I've been very lazy this season with it. I've never done like islands especially for it. I've done some islands, for the achievement but I never felt like I really "grinded" to those 100k+ azerite level. I've never done that. This season I haven't even cleared the map of WQs daily like I did last season. So yeah I kind of feel like I didn't "grind" for it, because to me grind says the 1000 hour grinds of Runescape 15 years ago and not this casual WoW stuff.

I have no interest whatsoever in Mythic raiding. If a Heroic raiding guild did a bait-and-switch on me I would probably leave unless it's temporary and I'm just filling while they recruit.
It's not so much the difficulty that turns me off since I did Heroic back when it was the hardest difficulty, I just prefer smaller groups when I'm pushing difficult content, that way I have way more impact on the success of the raid and the wins feel more personal. If Blizzard made a 10-man Mythic raid I might be interested, but as long as they're 20 I'll pass.

I do not think you can compare going from heroic to mythic to vanilla MC to BWL. I use to be very hard core. I genuenly thought I was good or at least decent at the game, it wasn't until warlords that I actually found out how bad I was. I joined this guild that were doing mythic Blackrock Foundry. I thought "I know I'm behind on gear, but once I get geared up I'll be able to do this". and the guild genuely helped me out with that, I got geared up, but my dps was still struggling and my hunter class officer was like.. "what is happening, why is your dps so low" and all I could say was "I actually don't know, I've looked at guides (yours and others) and I think I'm doing the right things but my dps is just not there" and after thinking about it for a while, I decided mythic raiding wasn't for me. that was the day I actually lost my interest in playing dps classes. I played tanks on the side and I dare still say I'm decent at that, but tanking is just so much easier than healing or dps, even someone that plays with 1 hand can do it at a decent level. But I ssdtill wouldn't want to tank in a mythic raid. Mythic + dungeons onn the other hand are very fun.

the thing about it, is people were tweeting and asking blizz about it, they didn't respond for days. IMO, you don't ban people if you can't be bothered to respond and say it isn't intended and bans are being considered if people abuse this bug. They were silent, intentionally. That is on them, more than the players. Its been explained. A majority of players just play the fucking game. They see others dinging like crazy, ask, then do it as well.
It is on ActiBlizz 99% for me, because they were silent. They could've disabled the item for a couple days. They could've fixed it faster. They could've just posted ANY response to the flood of people poking at them.
People are fucking stupid, and that includes devs and CMs.
I didn't do it, I haven't played since about 2-3 weeks into BfA, but bs is bs. These people weren't fly hacking, teleporting, botting, etc. They just split a stack and consumed an item.
Greed is the answer. Leveling is boring. The 20th time much more so. They are selling boosts. Why do you think they nerfed the ever loving shit out of heirlooms power and don't really want you having every slot filled with an xp buff to max level. They want it to be slow. It is the new way of doing business, microtransactions with convenience or pretties on top of your monthly fees and your xpac purchase costs. They got to make money, but they already do hand over fist.
