  • (2000) "All around effort in historic game 7 vs Portland"
Shaq was the 2000 MVP. He seemed to continue his domination after scoring 41pts in game 1. But Portland shoked L.A with a 29pt win, then went on a 15-2 run to open game 3.
Shaq get scoreless in first quarter but L.A managed to stay in the game thanks to Kobe six straight field goals. His clutch assist with 25sec to play and his last second block vs Sabonis to prevent a potential game winner captured a 25pts 7rbds 7asts effort in game 3.
Down 3-1, Portland managed to win game 5 & 6, tying the series at three games apiece. O'Neal didn't make a basket in the final 16 minutes of game 6- Kobe scored 35pts but couldn't prevent the loss.
Now GAME 7. The defining play of the game, the image which still remains the most in the memories is the alley hoop dunk made by Shaq in the closing seconds, putting an exclamation point to an historic come back.
BUT it was Kobe not Shaq, the MVP of this game so far. At only 21 years old, Kobe lead his team in scoring with 25pts and had game high 11rbds 7asts 4blks, while playing terrific defense.
O'Neal was unable to make a basket in the first 15 minutes and had only 9pts entering the 4th.
So young Kobe had to step up, and at 21, he wasn't afraid of anything or anyone. He did score 25pts but played awesome defense too. His rebounds, assists & Blocks often lead to big plays. He just outplayed NBA great Scottie Pippen, who shouldn't have critisized him at the beginning of the series, in the final two plays of the game.
Kobe lead L.A to an historic come back in this classic series. The Lakers erase a 15pt 4th quarter deficit to get to the finals.

People who say Kobe was "carried" or "gifted" his first 3 rings need to watch these type of videos. there were times when shaq fouled out or was not playing well and it Kobe himself carrying them to big wins like this.
if the lakers don't make a comeback in this game lead by kobe, there is no 2000 finals at all

Steve Arroyo And nobody is saying shaq wasnt the reason they were in contention, people just need to understand that shaq would be without a championship if it werent for player like kobe or dwade.

oh my bad i was thinking of the sac series for some reason in 02....but regardless if you looked at the boxscores, kobe game 4 both he n shaq dropped 25+ but kobe shot the ball better, game 6 shaq was MIA while kobe had 33 by game 7 shaq could only muster 9 fga and if it wasnt for kobes fearlessness then they clearly lose the series. Every team wanted to stop shaq and chose to live w the kobe factor and it bit em.

The Lakers may be bad right now but as a fan I have faith that one day this team will be producing classic playoff moments like this in the future. Maybe then I can watch them with my child like I watched some of these classic moments with my dad.

amazing how Kobe was so clutch at such a young age. i believe he was just 21 or 22 and making such clutch shots and critical blocks. he has been playing at a extremely high level for over a decade.

Exactly man. Only people like you who truly know basketball, the Lakers, or Kobe know how important he was and how crucial he was to the team (and obviously there is no need to say how important he is now)

  • @SpartanPride4Life1

These are the kinds of games that so many people forget. Kobe carried the team in the fourth quarter and in huge playoff games time and time again... Shaq was not reliable in the clutch, while Kobe constantly delivered. The Lakers would not have won a single championship of those three without Kobe. Not to mention his spectacular defensive play. This game is a classic example of how Kobe was completely undermined. Kobe scored the go ahead 4 points to give them a 83-79 before the famous lob.

  • @stevearroyo4870
    @stevearroyo4870 9 лет назад +3

That historic 2001 run of going 14-1 wouldnt be possible if it wasnt for kobes dominating performances. Dont get me wrong shaq was beasting but shaq who was already established as most dominant in the league and reigning mvp...kobe still came through and rocked everyone. Kobe in the championship runs pretty much outplayed shaq in the western playoff rounds at least half the time maybe more and those games he needed to do those performances otherwise they possibly could have lost the series....this game is proof.

Kobe's defense during the three-peat was so overlooked. At such a young age, he already established himself as a complete 2-way player and one of the best perimeter defenders in the league (1st team all-defense at age 21). Tenacious defense for 48 minutes is an intangible skill that will never show up in the stat sheets but all the haters and lebrontards look at are stat lines and never watch the actual games. Shaq won all those finals MVP's because of weak east bigs. If a "playoffs MVP" existed it definitely would be a tougher choice between Kobe or Shaq. There's a reason why they're the best 1-2 punch in NBA history. Imagine if Kobe was in his prime (2005-2008) with Shaq. Literally unstoppable.

  • @wesmillz

the reason why people hate on kobe is cuz no matter what people say about kobe he continues to do his thing.there's those players like michael jordan and lebron james that could do no wrong and the media sucks them off for every little thing they do.then there are players like kobe and allen iverson that no matter what they do its never good enough.when kobe scores a lot people say that he's selfish.when he passes the ball a lot people say he should be scorin.more power to kobe

The truth of the kobe/shaq era is that they were mostly equals for their 3 championships, shaq being better at the beginning (he was probably better in the 99-00 season, but not by much). I don't mean that to be a slight on Shaq, the guy was an incredible player, but so was Kobe. 57 ppg between two players on the same team, in one season, is just incredible. Shaq was more respected for his previous acomplishments, and rightfully so. But that doesn't mean kobe got 'carried' to his first 3 rings.

They better start watching those championship video games because kobe single handly carried the team on his back when shaq fouls out of nba finals game what do you do? do you automatically loose? not while you have a kobe bryant! Shot after shot, but i guess when you hate some one you hate him even when you score 81 points you still get no credit.
