- (2000) "All around effort in historic game 7 vs Portland"
Shaq was the 2000 MVP. He seemed to continue his domination after scoring 41pts in game 1. But Portland shoked L.A with a 29pt win, then went on a 15-2 run to open game 3.
Shaq get scoreless in first quarter but L.A managed to stay in the game thanks to Kobe six straight field goals. His clutch assist with 25sec to play and his last second block vs Sabonis to prevent a potential game winner captured a 25pts 7rbds 7asts effort in game 3.
Down 3-1, Portland managed to win game 5 & 6, tying the series at three games apiece. O'Neal didn't make a basket in the final 16 minutes of game 6- Kobe scored 35pts but couldn't prevent the loss.
Now GAME 7. The defining play of the game, the image which still remains the most in the memories is the alley hoop dunk made by Shaq in the closing seconds, putting an exclamation point to an historic come back.
BUT it was Kobe not Shaq, the MVP of this game so far. At only 21 years old, Kobe lead his team in scoring with 25pts and had game high 11rbds 7asts 4blks, while playing terrific defense.
O'Neal was unable to make a basket in the first 15 minutes and had only 9pts entering the 4th.
So young Kobe had to step up, and at 21, he wasn't afraid of anything or anyone. He did score 25pts but played awesome defense too. His rebounds, assists & Blocks often lead to big plays. He just outplayed NBA great Scottie Pippen, who shouldn't have critisized him at the beginning of the series, in the final two plays of the game.
Kobe lead L.A to an historic come back in this classic series. The Lakers erase a 15pt 4th quarter deficit to get to the finals.
People who say Kobe was "carried" or "gifted" his first 3 rings need to watch these type of videos. there were times when shaq fouled out or was not playing well and it Kobe himself carrying them to big wins like this.
if the lakers don't make a comeback in this game lead by kobe, there is no 2000 finals at all
remember when Shaq fouled out in the Finals vs Pacers? Kobe carried the Lakers on his back and won the Game.
Ronald Paas
exactly what i'm talking bout!
Rick Steck LA was never up 3-1........
Steve Arroyo And nobody is saying shaq wasnt the reason they were in contention, people just need to understand that shaq would be without a championship if it werent for player like kobe or dwade.
oh my bad i was thinking of the sac series for some reason in 02....but regardless if you looked at the boxscores, kobe game 4 both he n shaq dropped 25+ but kobe shot the ball better, game 6 shaq was MIA while kobe had 33 by game 7 shaq could only muster 9 fga and if it wasnt for kobes fearlessness then they clearly lose the series. Every team wanted to stop shaq and chose to live w the kobe factor and it bit em.
"Bryant...-to SHAQ!" that gives me goovesbumps every time...
That's not just anybody a 20 year old Kobe is shaking...That's Scottie fucking Pippen, one of the best defenders of all time...
The Lakers may be bad right now but as a fan I have faith that one day this team will be producing classic playoff moments like this in the future. Maybe then I can watch them with my child like I watched some of these classic moments with my dad.
amazing how Kobe was so clutch at such a young age. i believe he was just 21 or 22 and making such clutch shots and critical blocks. he has been playing at a extremely high level for over a decade.
THIS is not a sidekick. THIS is clutch. THIS is greatness. Long live Kobe. Only people who saw them play know he was as/more important than Shaq was.
Vintage Lakers , them good ol days. its been great seeing kobes legacy .
Remember this game like it was yesterday....sadly, It's not lol....But the emotion...every play...the feeling down...then the comeback....Great game that turned the team into a dynasty.
This series proved that Kobe was no sidekick. His never quit attitude, poise, and tenacity made up for his lack of experience early in his career.
Exactly man. Only people like you who truly know basketball, the Lakers, or Kobe know how important he was and how crucial he was to the team (and obviously there is no need to say how important he is now)
These are the kinds of games that so many people forget. Kobe carried the team in the fourth quarter and in huge playoff games time and time again... Shaq was not reliable in the clutch, while Kobe constantly delivered. The Lakers would not have won a single championship of those three without Kobe. Not to mention his spectacular defensive play. This game is a classic example of how Kobe was completely undermined. Kobe scored the go ahead 4 points to give them a 83-79 before the famous lob.
That historic 2001 run of going 14-1 wouldnt be possible if it wasnt for kobes dominating performances. Dont get me wrong shaq was beasting but shaq who was already established as most dominant in the league and reigning mvp...kobe still came through and rocked everyone. Kobe in the championship runs pretty much outplayed shaq in the western playoff rounds at least half the time maybe more and those games he needed to do those performances otherwise they possibly could have lost the series....this game is proof.
ONE OF THE BEST LAKER TO WEAR THE JERSEY SAY WHAT U WANT STATS, RINGS AND RECORDS DON'T LIE KOBE IS RAW
Kobe Bryant is a living legend. Top 10 all time easily.
Kobe's defense during the three-peat was so overlooked. At such a young age, he already established himself as a complete 2-way player and one of the best perimeter defenders in the league (1st team all-defense at age 21). Tenacious defense for 48 minutes is an intangible skill that will never show up in the stat sheets but all the haters and lebrontards look at are stat lines and never watch the actual games. Shaq won all those finals MVP's because of weak east bigs. If a "playoffs MVP" existed it definitely would be a tougher choice between Kobe or Shaq. There's a reason why they're the best 1-2 punch in NBA history. Imagine if Kobe was in his prime (2005-2008) with Shaq. Literally unstoppable.
the reason why people hate on kobe is cuz no matter what people say about kobe he continues to do his thing.there's those players like michael jordan and lebron james that could do no wrong and the media sucks them off for every little thing they do.then there are players like kobe and allen iverson that no matter what they do its never good enough.when kobe scores a lot people say that he's selfish.when he passes the ball a lot people say he should be scorin.more power to kobe
dam.. With Kobe's athleticism and tenacity back then combined with his knowledge and maturity now, he'd be superman..
When I look back at this it gives me chills to know that the Lakers had arguably the best star duo tandem in sports history Kobe/Shaq. Imagine Lakers team back then instead of todays. We would of easily beat the mavesticks with the great shooters we had back then.Just cant wait to see what happens next season!
I miss the old mamba..But I still love the new!
one of the happiest days of my life
Thanks for the video. This brings back classic memories
Beginning of a dynasty...two all time greats simply DOMINATING
Kobe made that spectacular play, Shaq finished it off. You can see the difference in the players Shaq starts celebrating, Kobe locks down again for the defensive assignment.
this destroyed portland. my whole family left the blazers after this game, and so did thousands of portland fans. we haven't come back until this season. we gave up on portland for 10 years because of this game. it was hard.
truly one of the greatest games in nba history
This is the game that I new that Kobe would be as good as Jordan.
I remember this game 7 like it was yesterday between the Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers... On a Sunday afternoon of June 4th 2000, destiny was met with the L.A. Lakers comeback victory on the way to an NBA championship!
Kobe and mj r on another level.
this game gives me goosebumps :)
Bryant... TO SHAQ !!! Man, this gives me the chills.
what a year for me,2000. Lakers finally win a ring with Shaq/Kobe..had a great job..i was 25yrs old with a fine ass 18yr old gf who always had good herb....still a time in my life when stress was minimal...to see kobe and Shaq in their prime, winning big together hurts my heart, wishin Shaq coulda retired here with a grand send off like Kareem got....wish this fuckin lockout would end, would be nice to have just one more parade.... and to possibly see Miami fail again :)
"Kobe......TO SHAQ"
this was the greatest game i ever saw
kobe was only 21 in his first finals, ballin like a vet
yooo
i swear if the athleticism of the 2000-2005 Kobe Bryant
combined with the maturity, leadership, unselfishness, skills, and leadership of the the present Kobe Bryant
you'd have the most scariest, dominant player in this decade, probably better than Shaq in his prime
i miss the early 2000 kobe and lakers....
i dont know man i think those kobe haters are just to blind to see how incredible this guy is...
Man, were both teams loaded with talent!
@lakerstr8killurteam hell yea man, i was like 13 wen i was watching shaq and obe winning it all, watching that 3-peat, watching kobe on the pacer game being clutch, watching obe and shaq take on iverson in his prime, watching kobe and shaq taking down jason kidd and his nets! Damn those were the good ol days :')
anything you say STILL SHAQ is the MAN in this laker era.. 3 time finals MVP. 1 time league MVP in this era.
Huge fan of kobe and lebron
kobe was the reason they won that game!
look at what kobe has done that game
that couldnt have done any other player in this leauge at this time
this crowd is so electric i love itt
It's scary how good Kobe was during those years when he wasn't really in his prime.
man i miss these days
i hate when people say Kobe was carried to his championships. they mustve never actually watched him play i mean yea hes had really good players around him but you cant deny the fact that hes been the best player in the league for a long long time
I still remember watching this game live. I thought the Lakers were gone.
Kobe game 4 2000 finals hits game winning put back against pacers when shaq fouled out Kobe came up clutch so no shaq couldn't have won without Kobe
Crowd intensity: Over 9000!!!
NBA ON NBC!!!!!! I miss those days...
The greatest alley hoop of all time
that's the greatest basketball player in history
thank you
Ahhh..... The memories....
People the MOST IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE ABOUT THIS GAME IS THE FACT THAT HE WAS ONLY 21! and lead a championship team in the BIGGEST GAME... ONLY 21!
Rasheed Wallace knows all about blowing 15 point leads in game 7 at Staples Center
god this brings back memories. i felt sick when the 4th started, i really thought they were done. mamba refused to let the lakers lose though.
the good old days
and then started kobe bryant's legacy....
ya dude we had such a killer lineup. kobe shaq, rice, shaw, horry, harper, fish, ac green, etc...
i wonder how anxious the crowd was when LA was being blown out. on the comeback, the crowd changed from tears to screams. almost an upset.
What happened to this energetic L.A crowd that I knew and loved?
Shaq was the 1st option on offense at the time, in crunch time kobe was the go to guy.. i still don't understand why some people kept saying the reason kobe had some many rings is cause of Shaq... this game was the perfect exemple if Kobe was the reason why Lakers won that game, without his performance Portland would went to finals against the Pacers. Shaq just crushed the pacers by himself
I like how Shaq completely ignores Kobe's high five after the lob. haha
325 pound Shaq dominated 240 pound smits 245 mutumbo and Grayson Collins while Kobe dominated the western conference playoffs
Hahaha bill Walton cracks me up in the beginning lol
BEAST!!!!!
true this^. it's only every decade or so you see a player have this kind of essence when they step onto the hardwood. so sick to watch. sports = win.
Kobe at his best. That was one heck of a game. Those were the days, don't get me wrong I love what the Lakers are doing this season, but this Laker team had Shaq in his prime. Not the fat, old Shaq who slows down his team mates of today. This was the diesel Shaq.
this is like those flashbacks in the TV shows where the for some reason everyone has afros
MVP MVP MVP MVP......
The truth of the kobe/shaq era is that they were mostly equals for their 3 championships, shaq being better at the beginning (he was probably better in the 99-00 season, but not by much). I don't mean that to be a slight on Shaq, the guy was an incredible player, but so was Kobe. 57 ppg between two players on the same team, in one season, is just incredible. Shaq was more respected for his previous acomplishments, and rightfully so. But that doesn't mean kobe got 'carried' to his first 3 rings.
wow nba on the 2000's was so great and competitive i hate the nba today i wish i was wiser then.
Great video as always, and I know it's strictly about Kobe's performance, but I wished you had more footage of the comeback on there.
bryant had so much fucking energy back then
Don't get it twisted. Shaq was by far the best player on the Lakers in all 3 of those championships.
The blazers were a super team.
100% agree with you, now days people look at shaq's stats and scores and say shaq did all the work and kobe just tag along. They better start watching those championship video games because kobe single handly carried the team on his back when shaq fouls out of nba finals game what do you do? do you automatically loose? not while you have a kobe bryant! Shot after shot, but i guess when you hate some one you hate him even when you score 81 points you still get no credit.
Defensive monster!
amen brotha
All about those matchups.
kobe was workin pip!!!
If only Kobe and Shaq put their egos aside, they could've won from 2000 till 2006 or 2007.
@daddychon damn i miss those days tho..the best time to b a lakers fan espically growning up watching
i got rid of one hell of alotta kobe gm's i taped as a teen starting from '99 lasting til '06...i wished to god i couldve found a kid who wanted to have em. i had to throw them away cuz i moved. i feel alittle sick abt it now. I had reg season I had the entire 2000 blazers series, kings, pacers, I had the chris childs fight--the antoine jamison battle in fall '00 season when they both got 51 pts...jeez ...
I did have net..I woulda mailed the whole box to whoever, jus didn want them trashed
People love to disregard Kobe and say it was only Shaq who won the titles. Without Kobe in this game, there would be no championship, no 3peat, and no Laker dynasty. Kobe averaged 21.1 points in 2000 playoffs, 29.4 points in 2001 playoffs, and 26.6 in 2002 playoffs. Sorry Kobe haters but saying Shaq won the title is just plain stupid.
Dude did you see that crowd ? If only the fans were like that in today's staples center. Today they're all calm and shit.
You can't watch this and say that Shaq carried Kobe, clearly they both went to work and won the 3 rings together.
That's also very true
7:29 the 1st time i saw my mom going crazy... 7:41 the craziest my mom that i ever seen
Commentators suck this is why Kobe's famous but doesn't get all the props he deserves. Avg 20 ppg 6 apg an 4 RPG in fist seasons is damn good
Does any of you guys have the DVD of the 2000 playoff series with the Lakers? I need it so baddd I have not watched it because I was a little 10 year old way back when... Thanks for the vid btw. Thumbs up.
and ppl say kobe cant do without shaq .............shaq cant do without kobe!!!!
i like that you said that cuz playing as individuals they were swept twice in arow but when they played as a team they three-peated i watched this to lol i was young tho
you see how all people jumpin on shaq and celebrating the victory? that was the shit between shaq and kobe right there. kobe was the man turned the game but he's not the guy likeable as shaq, so he always felt underrated and he was still a troubled kid at the time. carrying all those next jordan shit on his shoulders at that age, confused.
don't get me wrong, shaq is the most dominant player this league has ever seen but kobe is the full package like jordan; talent and work ethic..
MVP
@lordg17. This game, Game 7 LA-SAC, Game 5 SA-DET in 2005, Game 6 SA-DAL 2006, and CHI-BOS Game 6 2009 are best playoff games of 2000s decade.
I like Kobe with the fro
On the game that counts the most, KOBE CARRIED SHAQ TO THE FINALS and spoon fed the big baby.
Damon Stoudemire lookin like Allen Iverson stunt double out there lol
PER too. It's all about PER PER PER PER PER!!!!
