Fun fact: The Pacers actually outscored the Lakers in that series. Lakers were clearly a more talented team but that series was winnable from Indiana’s perspective. Remember Kobe got hurt and barely played in Game 2 and he missed game 3. Game 4 Shaq fouled out and they had to win it in OT. And in Game 5 Indiana won by 33 points. Shaq was otherworldly of course but that series was a lot closer than people remember. The only Lakers team of that 3-peat that really looked unbeatable was the 01 team that only lost one game to the Sixers.

    • @JDGarza824
      @JDGarza824 3 года назад +9

The argument you are presenting is flawed because if Kobe does not get hurt they probably sweep the Pacers you said it yourself Kobe missed most of Game 2 and all of Game 3. The Lakers ended up winning Game 2 anyway and if they had him for Game 3 the Lakers likely are up 3-0.
2001 no one was beating the Lakers or even making them sweat. 2002 the only team that posted any threat was the Kings.

@@JDGarza824 how is my argument flawed when I gave you nothing but facts? Wtf. I literally said in the second sentence that the Lakers were a more talented team so of course they would have won easily if Kobe never got hurt but he did and that made the series closer than expected. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter because they still won anyway.

Western conference playoffs rd.1 vs Kings

Western conference playoffs rd.2 vs Suns
    21.0pts 3.8rebs 3.4ast 2.0stls 1.4blks
Western conference Finals rd.3 vs Blazers
    20.4pts 4.9rebs 5.9ast 1.6stls 2.1blks
Led 2000 playoffs in total steals
3rd 2000 playoffs in total assists
Got intentionally injured by the opposition because of the threat that his skill level posed
Saved gm 4 of NBA Finals on a bum ankle
Won a ring on a bum ankle but was carried??? Because he at 21yrs put up
    15.6pts 4.6rebs 4.2ast 1stl 1.4blks injured!
    Lakers W game 1
Lakers W game 2 but K.B is injured
    Lakers L game 3 No K.B
Now let's change history and say Kobe doesn't come back
No Kobe to save game 4
    Lakers Lose game 4
We know the Pacers won game 5 in a blowout
So now the Lakers are down 3-2 with no Kobe and the Pacers on a 3 game winning streak
    Shaq still carried Kobe?
    Shaq was dominant period
But with no true opposition against him with the East bigs all leaving the game, Phil's plan became simple....let Shaq eat.
So 2000-02, just like 2008 Olympics Kobe sacrificed personal success for winning. Are we gonna say that Kobe was carried by Bron and co in 08? They put up better stats right?
I find it weird that Kobe went to 3 straight Finals post Shaq
Put up historic numbers post Shaq
Collected multiple season, allstar, and post season awards post Shaq
But people steal try to label him as carried
Kobe sacrificed his glory for others on multiple platforms. Kobe played with broken bones and swallon joints to get the ring.
    I say he's the ultimate champ 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆

Kobe was only averaging 19 per game on 36.8% shooting that series when not counting games 2 & 3. Shaq on the other hand, was averaging 38 PPG and 16.7 RPG with 2.7 BPG on 61.1% shooting. With all due respect to Kobe and the Kobe fans in the comments section, Shaq was the big dog in this series.
