This isn’t talked about enough, MJ & Kobe basically lived on the All defensive NBA teams; Kobe having 12 selections, 9 1st team and MJ having 9, all 1st team. MJ would’ve easily had more had he not retired and of course his DPOY, leading league in steals 3x, leading blocks for guard a few years etc. They played just as intensely on defense as they did on offense.

Kobe's defensive selections were mostly due to reputation. Phil already said it himself. Which makes sense bc Kobe never got nominated for DPOY while Lebron finished in top 2-4 in DPOY races thrice and was actually robbed on 2013.

Kobe easily should have atleast 4 MVP trophies.

2004-2005: Kobe missed 16 games, their second best player was Lamar Odom missed 18 games. They were 19-15 when Kobe got injured, was reasonable with the amount of talent and depth on that team. They had a young Caron Butler (Don’t know why they traded him for KWAME BROWN), but because of the injuries they never really was given a chance to build a team chemistry. Finished the season 34-48
2005-2006: Kobe averaged 35ppg and finished with a record of 45-37, as the 7th seed on the East. Now the Toronto Raptors finished the regular season as the 3rd seed that year with 47-35 record. Let’s say if Kobe was on the east he would definitely have more wins than he had, putting him on a higher seed and would definitely give him a better MVP consideration (goes to show the different between two conferences).
Now with him blowing that 3-1 lead against the Suns. Yes he didn’t finish the job but considering what he had was Lamar Odom then after that it was Kwame Brown, Luke Walton, Chris Mihm, and SMUSH PARKER RUNNING THE POINT. It means that they shouldn’t be on that situation at the first place. But yet they were there because of Kobe Bryant. He scored 29 points on game 5, 50 on game 6. After dropping a 50-piece and still lost he was called a ‘ball-hog’ so on game 7 he tried to have his teammates involved but they couldn’t step up. He also had 22 points (im not sure) on the first half but they were still down big.
2006-2007: Kobe averaged 33 5 4 and still lost, I mean what could the dude do at that point? He fought a team that had prime Steve Nash, Stat, Shawn Marion, Barbosa, Diaw. All he had was Odom. And those two Suns team would eventually lost to Dallas (2006) - which eventually went to the finals only to blew it. And to the Spurs (2007) - the eventual champion. That’s why you couldn’t blame Kobe for becoming frustrated, cause in the West you couldn’t win without any help.
Just to bring out some actual context behind the subjective narratives that these “EXPERTS” always trying to conceive.

Lebron had the easiest roads to the championships and lost 6 times🤣 SIX?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Mind you Lebron had multiple top 75 players on his team every time he went to the finals without them he couldn't even get to the finals. Without an all star packed, are you talking about the 2010 finals? C'mon dude, lol lakers and celtics were evenly matched, Lakers had a slight, very slight advantage. When Perkins was down, the Lakers bigs took over, Pau Gasol was hands down the best player on game 7, Kobe throwing bricks like crazy, etc.. And about the broken finger, Kobe is the only one to blame. The team was strong enough to achieve a high seed without him, he could tried a surgery to return just a week before the playoffs... But no, the egomaniac decided to play with the broken finger. The result: arthritis for life. This is not a good example, new fans needs to learn that, that was stubborn and stupid.

R stop it. Gasol wasn't KG, Artest wasn't Paul, and Fisher wasn't rondo. If you watched those series you'd know they were defensive battled where Kobe literally carried the offense for the game. Pau was at his best because kobes leader ship and spoon fed passes for layups. Bynum is nobody since then same with Odom. They all overachieved because kobes leadership.

    • @TroyJohn1130
      @TroyJohn1130 6 лет назад +19

R mind you until Kobe started scoring in the fourth they were losing that game. Ron artests 3 put them up 4 after Kobe just scored to gain the lead. Also he lead the team in rebounds that night too. Percentages don't matter when the result is a w. LeBron should care more about winning rather than his percentages.

kevinsebby thank you for seeing that not many people recognize the fact that the east has been garbage since 2000, so of course LeBron stats look better, people always bring up shaq but never accept that without Kobe as a one two punch they don't three peat, people always say Kobe demanded a trade, but the reality is he never left, unlike LeBron who runs every time it gets tough, Kobe never demanded super teams to win, another point for the stats is if you had Kobe teammates would you pass? No and this is why he was consistently doubled, lastly if you understand basketball you know that spacing opens up your game, Kobe never had great shooters or a playmaker point guard, LeBron did so at times he would single coverage with mismatches or the option to kick out every time

The only thing I give Michael Jordan over Kobe is he's a championship player game closer and he's not letting a championship get by, and he was allowed by Phil Jackson to win 10 scoring titles, which Kobe Bryant wasn't allowed to do and this is some of the problems that's rose up between Phil Jackson and Kobe Bryant . Kobe Bryant is the only Player in NBA history who shot the ball with his off hand, because his right ring finger was broken, and he's done this for months. Larry Bird done this for a game. Kobe Bryant came into the league with a complete game especially shooting the Ball, Michael Jordan shooting gotten better over, the years, probably because he drove a lot to the basket and made you foul him.

To each their own, but its not so much about MJ being 6-0, Kobe being 5-2, or Lebron being 3-5.. It's HOW they got those records. Robert Horry is 7-0 as a roleplayer on multiple Super Teams, so that argument is null. Jordan three-peated twice in 8 years and carried his team during each finals appearance. He was an elite DEFENDER and scorer. Also, the 90s Bulls were NOT considered a Super team until Rodman joined them for the second three-peat, and even then Rodman was past his prime, so thats arguable. Kobe three-peated with Shaq, then lost the 4th championship when the Lakers didn't show up against a very dangerous Pistons' team. Shaq left, and Kobe lost AGAIN to a Boston team packed with All-Star caliber players, including 3 future HoFers. Kobe then won a couple; the last against pretty much the same Boston team. Lebron on the other hand got swept his first finals and shot the ball terribly. He then joined a Super team with Wade and Bosh and LOST to an older Dallas team that had 1 All-star. Lebron shot terribly in the last 3 games of that series while Wade had a performance worthy of another Finals MVP had they won. Lebron then acquired Ray Allen and won a couple before losing again by a RECORD MARGIN to an older Spurs team with players well past their prime. He then joined another team with 2 perennial All-stars in Love and Kyrie, had a 2-1 lead AND STILL LOST to a young juggernaut in the making. Lebron's highest moment came the next year, when his team came back from a 3-1 deficit to win the chip. I give him and his team props for that, but the GOAT 'train' left the station in 2011. Deal with it.

LeBron is just a Laker for the downside of his career so he can work on movies and stuff, he has even less heart to win now than he did before. Lakers won 35 games the season before LeBron came, LeBrons first year there they win 37. Sure he had an almost 20 game stretch for the injury. But that still gives you 62 games to to improve by more than 2 games over the previous year. Especially after adding McGee, Chandler. Goes to show LeBron is overrated and doesn't really make his teammates better

All irrelevant, LeBron at the end of the day is a better player. Hold back those tears, keep jumping through hoop's. Jordan's opinion is simply irrelevant to what FACTs say. More rings, better finals record dont equal better player. At the end of the day 3 rings, 3 FMVP, 4 MVP's > 5 rings, 2 finals MVP, 1 MVP.
LeBron has better stats all across the board. Kobe is more clutch, thats it.

In that time Kobe built his legacy as one the greatest players of all time working hard to get another championship. And if you think that just because he didn't win it all during that time it takes away from what he accomplished, what he did during those years left a mark on everybody who watched him. How to defend Lebron: Defend his teammates.
How to defend Kobe: Hope he's playing injured.
Lebron is a monster, but you can stop him by forcing him to beat you. Kobe might lack some of the physicality, but he will do whatever he can to beat you. It's an instinct that can't be taught. And any professional player who played against both of them will tell you how much scarier it was to play a prime (and even a sub-prime for a few years) Kobe.
