Nobody is going to see this, but Kenyon is making a great point here regarding assists. We always like to call players who average a high number of assists "unselfish", but the player getting the assists gets credit for the assists in terms of accolades and salary.
Yea it's the eye test of how those assist are being achieved. That's his point. There's all this analytics but if you're not watching HOW those numbers are being obtained in the game then you're missing an entire dimension of the realm of competing.
A point guard like Chris Paul doesn't pass early on possessions, he sets up the offense and decides where and when the field goal attempt will happen. Players like LeBron, Chris Paul, James Harden, they have that style. They want to orchestrate every offensive move while they're on the floor. Then you have point guards like Steph Curry who are willing to give up the primary ball handler spot to the 2 guard or to another ball handler and go off ball with his movement. That creates a whole different dynamic on the court. He's more willing to let other guys make plays. For better or worse. Each style has strengths and weaknesses
I've only ever heard that negatively with Rondo. I heard her passes up layups just to make an extra pass and get assists to pad his numbers. I used to watch a lot of Jeremy Lin clips though, so I know an "assist" can be a bit glorified sometimes. Like if you pass the ball to someone and they iso and score in a couple of seconds, they consider it an assist. I remember Rodman got a triple double once cuz he passed the ball to MJ and he immediately don't a turnaround jumper.

A whole bunch of ball players in the NBA putting up enpty stats
This is the best take on how you need to work together with those with experience and combine analytics. A lot of people are too focused on one or the other
Finally! Someone from the NBA who speaks on his faults. If you dont watch the games, you think he is the greatest PG of all-time. Watch him, hes great! But, there this something to the game that he doesnt do. What my coach said, "you gotta pass the ball with love". You got to want your teammate to do good! CP just seems he wants it his way, and then when it matters, he needs help big time
Felt that way about that Busta Stockton. People ain't hear em speak to this Gonzaga situation and now they been on his head lol. Great player no doubt but that muthafucka never was beyond reproach. I called that hoe out and it is what it is yell

ridiculous to use the term "Deep Hate" - Kenyon was not disrespectful and just answered questions. They should go back and change the title.
Chris Paul is doing better in the latter part of his career because hes not being asked to be the number one guy and a 20 and 10 player. With the Thunder and Suns, it's more than him being part of a "Big 2" like he was in his prime. The Thunder stint was as impressive as his Clippers years and he's flourishing with the Suns because he's with talents like Booker and Ayton, not to mention other players who can finish plays.
Nah Kenyon was right even in that’s finals against the bucks he had too many bad turnovers trying to create a play .. took the ball out of Dbook hands at key moments
He will never win a a championship
This title is so misleading, he NEVER says HE dislikes Paul, he consistently states Paul was not popular by the "other 14"
I've seen many much more misleading titles. Clearly Martin didn't/doesn't like Paul much.
If you think someone is sneaky then you aren’t likely to like nor trust them.
Does anyone remember Colin Herd before he became a caricature of a 1950s baseball radio announcer? (Me either)
Lebron does the same thing lol.
He plays for stats and forces franchises to put elite players around him who can create their own shot off the dribble to bail him out when the statpadding isnt winning them games.
Then when they win, Lebron gets the credit because the media is stupid and they worship statlines instead of actual on court play.
Bingo
Kenyon brings up a great point that’s missed with high assist players. Some of them only give up the ball when they think they can get credit for the assist. They don’t allow players to cook in isolation and don’t allow the ball to swing around to the best available shot. They hog the ball until they can get credit. Eg. Triple double Westbrook
Lmao go watch Russ play he’s unselfish he’s just aggressive. CP is just an old school floor general
Lebron did that his whole career but only westbrook gets hate for it
Kmart best voice in the bizz
Not sure you can trust Kenyon's analytics after hearing the following (paraphrased):
Kenyon: I'm an eye test type of guy
Colin: I'm 75/25 analytics vs eye test. what about you?
Kenyon: I'm 50/50
How I understood it, Kenyon was saying that he values analytics and the eye test equally, but from his background, as a former NBA player, he understands and contribute with the eye test. From what he is saying, he needs someone else that can find and dig thru the data to bring the analytics to the table, so that there could be a conversation. Keep in mind, he was interrupted multiple times throughout this interview, so we don't have the full picture.
I don't know why but I could listen to this guy all day. Coolest voice and brutally honest.
That’s a fact. His interview about guarding Tim Duncan was amazing.

he wants to try and be a Commissioner of the NBA or he’s trying to meet and greet an be kind to as many coaches and front offices so he could be a head coach or try to own a team.
I’m still waiting to see the “deep hate”
The titles on RUclips are a stretch.
Collin doesn’t belong in the same wrong with a legitimate NBA player like Martin.
Chris Paul definitely has a Napoleon complex. He’s tiny and it shows in the playoffs defensively he gets exposed. For years he would create the most ridiculous flopping fouls especially just stop running with a defender right behind him on the break and they both fall down automatic call. Also he would not grab the ball out of another guy’s hands after the play was dead but truly snatch it. Just a lame move. But he’s had a very good regular season career and a couple of decent post season series recently. You have to give him that.

The point guard in Basketball is that of a quarterback in football. You can't get have an opportunity to score without them passing you the ball
Except that it's not because all 5 players should be passing the ball not just one.
@@user-dc7um4pr3f But like the Quarterback it's the Point Guard that facilitates the play.
If you've never played in an NBA game, shut up. Who cares if you're an analytics guy. A former player is trying to educate you.
I agree with the sentiment that statistic fanatics are obnoxious, but your comment warrants the obvious: players disagree themselves.
I pose this question: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has one of the highest basketball IQ’s of any player in the NBA history. He made the remark that Oscar Robertson is the best point guard of all time - better than his teammate Magic Johnson. He played with them both. He knew them both intimately. He watched Oscar. Does that mean we should listen to Jabbar and elevate Oscar in the all-time discussion?

Yeah Erik Spoelstra who never played in a game should shut up right? It’s ok to be moderate, you don’t have to be far left or far right
Why are they trying to make it seems like a analytical guy is on the damn basketball court his self playing? Analytics is nothing new, it was always part of a coaches decisions, without having a word for it! It was basically more organic back then and was called a coaches instinct, from a players fg percentage or free throws at certain times of the game, or certain area’s a player may shoot from with a better fg percentage, or a shot taking with a certain defensive player defending the shot, or more simply put Jordan will either make the shot, or pass it to Paxson or a Steve Kerr type shooter, who has a good fg percentage from the 3 point line, than Jordan shooting a well defended two point shot, out of a double team! He didn’t pass it to Scottie for that last second shot, he knew he just needed a sharp shooter on his team! That’s called common sense” and without a analytical guy to tell him to past that game winner or game tying shot! Back then it was called, Jordan needing a sharp shooter like Paxson or Steve Kerr! Lol , Common sense didn’t need analytics to tell him, not to let Dennis Rodman take the last shot!
If you watched the Kmart knuckle head podcast this popped up
Right!
I’ve always heard he’s sneaky.
People fail to realize assist can be ball hog because u need the ball in your hands like James harden he gets assists because he hog the ball not in the flow KD 6 assist is in the flow harden 12 assist is basically forced
Chris Paul is better than a lot of players and he lets them know in their face he’s also the captain of the players association so he speaks for the players in those meetings they don’t like that and he does it on purpose because who tf are y’all to tell me what to do when I’m better than you and you’re on drugs which was most likely the case Chris Paul was telling on players doing dirt
These analytical nerds put such s big emphasis on +/- lol. So if im on the floor carrying my team scoring, rebounding, defending but my 4 teammates cant make a shot, giving up easy baskets and my +/- is -14 but is in no way indicitive how ive performed individually despite my teammates being failures. K-Mart is correct.
Kmart ain't carry nothing..... but was the number 1 pick.
Jason Kidd was a far better PG than Paul.
By far
Faaaaar better...
I agree.
He was amazing on the Nets and crucial to the Mavs when they won the title.
He was better for sure…. But at that time teams were actual teams…. Now it’s all about superstars…. The nets ain’t really have like a top ten player in the league but they had a squad…. The pistons had a SQUAD…. Kings, uhh Portland…. These were all contenders…. Yea u had the lakers and spurs but even then they played team ball and it was about the team
@@tonystretch5102 which makes what Kidd did even more special. He took a bum Nets team to top a competitive Eastern Conference. Pistons were getting really good, Boston had a solid team, Charlotte was tough. He mightve gotten them a ring had he not gone up against the Juggernaut Lakers and Spurs.
Sounds like hes describing lebron with the assist stuff...
Arguably Chris Paul, will have an afterlife as a player in the front office as a GM/ Front Office guy. His career after playing will be similar to Isaiah Thomas was before all the allegations of harassment and so on.
Without 2 NBA titles though
How are they even comparable???
Nobody playing for him they hate him. He’ll have to go ownership where nobody sees his face
Analytics just tells me your heart is not in it .
But yall got him as the head of the union. Do yo thing Paul ur great

The eye test definitely matters.
This is absolutely correct...
Corporate media and modern academia are both working together to destroy the human gauge so that the common man is easier to fool with misinformation.
Its corporate idealism...
Kenyon seems locked in a box(mindset) and a bit jealous. This is likely why his career didn't go better. He shouldn't talk "championships" and "winning"... because he really never did.
he won conference finals, still more than CP3
Stop glazing.
Like listening to someone's drunk uncle.
Chris Paul can play but he can’t win when it matters
That Phoenix Milwaukee series shows you why
Phoenix is old man cp3, the floater has left the building.... the problem with the clippers with cp3 was nobody but chris and crawford could shoot freethrows.... Jordan, Griffen, Josh Smith, couldn't hit free throws. As a team they couldn't even avg. 70% ft. thats alot of points left on the floor.
It's crazy how difficult it is for him to understand why analytics aren't everything. In fact, it can be argued that only a high IQ basketball player can actually interpret the data.
Everyone who only looks at analytics will just say "bigger number means better."
He sounds like Skip Bayless
These comments didn’t age well
Analytics….. It’s the gambling curve now!! Plus .. minus…. Kenyon said that!!!!💪💪💪💪
If analytics was so important, it will be able to figure out, what player ass will lock up in the last few seconds of a 1 point lead in game for the championship! So coaches will know I can’t even think about having this player on the court! Lol,
PS, What did Analytics say about Bruce brown being thekey player, after jokic and Murray to help Denver get over the hump to beat the Lakers, and the Miami heat! Especially the lakers never planned for him to be that successful, Nor did it account for the joker to hit about five last second buzzer beaters!!!! And Murray hitting about three, Without those hell Murray’s, no pond intended! That lakers series, with a split in the first four, could have had a totally different outcome!

I disagree w/ what he said about +/-. If you feel like you played good but while you were on the floor we were outscored by 15 we have a different meaning of good 😆
Not necessarily...there could have been other factors as to why you were outscored.
Stats without context is meaningless...
@@josephschmizzo1595 Literally every stat needs context most of the time 😆. That's why I used the ex. of -15. i.e Tatum scored 28pts w/ -36+/- as a starter & "good defender" that's a bad game no matter "context".
@@Tim_Dunkinnah thats not all the context u need to come to that conclusion though...what actually happened on the court during that time? You HAVE to look at what happened on the court to definitively conclude that that was a bad game.
Mar 1st 2022 LAL played DAL and The Mavs won by 5. As im watching the game im noticing what i always notice from Lebron, a hesitancy to disrupt his efficiency which leads to the team being stuck in a rut far too long and or never being able to fully use the offensive gifts of their players optimally. Go back and watch that game and u clearly see Luka outplay and outwork Bron (AND get the W) but once the game was over i was shocked when i saw the statline for both Bron and Luka...
Bron: 29 pts, 12 rebs, 5 assts, 55.6% and +7
Luka: 25 pts, 8 rebs, 5 assts, 42.9% and -7
Nobody w even a decent gauge of the sport would watch that game and see how Luka impacted the game vs how Bron impacted the game and dare to imagine that Bron had the better game.

Stats NEEEEED context and NOTHING beats the human eye 😉
@@josephschmizzo1595 You used numbers way below my example -7 & +7 are not -36. This was a time when most players were coming out of the shoot off the dribble moves. He was getting most of his assists off lobs to the big men, like Blake and DeAndre.
