that is bloom, but not halation. Halation is a reddish orange halo, it tend to occur along the constrasting boundries of the over exposed areas, most often around bright light sources.
Yeah I’ve learned a bit more about the terminology of it since then, didn’t want to take the video down but will definitely have to make an update as I learn more. Thanks for the helpful comment!
Combine this technique with a red color matte layer set to overlay blend mode for a halation effect. i.e. after making the gaussian blur highlight duplicate layer, add a new item/color matte on top, nest the two together as a sequence, set the red layer to overlay, set the nested sequence to screen. Play with the parameters of blur, opacity, luma key (or just curves) to however you want the effect.
Love the tutorial! Quick and to the point! Great intro as well. If I may suggest something, at the beginning throw up the final clips with the effect to show people what you will be creating while talking, give us the tease at the final product, or use the effect on your intro footage to show us what we will be doing. Just 2 things: 1. It is actually Bloom effect, not Halation. Halation is a phenomenon only possible in film, because it's fisically there. Of course you could recreate it in digital but it's different from Bloom. Bloom is the natural glow things have and film just shows it naturally. You could increase this effect by using a mist filter (both film and digital). Halation is like a cromatic aberration that appears when film is exposed to a very contrasty scene in a non remjet film. 2. This technique is great, I have it used myself. But when you are editing a big project, it kinda lags. You can hide the track but sometimes you need to see it to verify some effects. I have tried nesting them but it's the same, it lags a lot and some effect are not applied which is weird. But anyways, it's a great tip if you're on a budget.
Hey brother. I appreciate your comment. I corrected this misspoken label in a new updated video. Technically halation isn’t possible digitally since it’s a chemical reaction on the film. But in terms of digital, it’s the best got lol

can u please make a tutorial on how you do this type of pretty coloring in your videos like in the first shot?? or if its a lut from somewhere, can i pls get the link to purchase/download ??
Hey Trent! Awesome video and easy tutorial to follow. I have a quick question though. I had color graded my clips in the lumetri color panel, then I copied all my video clips, selected the top one and added luma key and gaussian blur. However after rending, all my color grading was gone... do you have any ideas on what could have happened? I even tried to add the color grading again and it is not reflecting any changes now on the clips.
Could you have your effects export selection unselected? Or maybe you have a global Fix mute on? Hard to know for sure as I haven’t had that problem personally. Maybe try coloring on an adjustment layer if you can’t find the problem. But I would suggest doing that last.
Hey bro love the content, what is the font that you are using in this. The with the star at the top of i, I have been finding it for a very long time. Please let me know.

I don't use any LUT's but I do have a tutorial about color grading coming soon. ill be sure to come here and let you know when its published but in the meantime be sure to hit the subscribe and notification bell to see when its posted!
nice tutorial man, I'm wondering what was the use of the "luma key" for? and as far as I know that if you want to add some kind of glow, you duplicate the layer and you add gaussian blur to the original layer not the duplicate, is there something I'm missing?
From my understanding the luma key selects only the white and brighter areas of the shot and only effects the Gaussian blur to that section of the shots. If that makes sense.
@@Trentorials after some reasearch and watching some tutorial it finally made sense to me lol, when you increase the threshold you get to remove the dark parts in the scene, when you increase the cutoff you get to remove the bright / white parts. good techniques man, much appreciated.
I actually explained this in the new video I posted about it. It acts as a mask, the luma key, like any other key effects. It’s select the white gambit of the footage, and masks only that selected portion out.
Join the livestream today at 1:30 Pm EST. I’ll be going over and helping anyone who’s on there with any questions they have. But if you are specifically asking about this effect I don’t know how I can make this simpler. But I’d be happy to see how I can help
I don’t think so. A LUT is a look up table. Which contains information on how to color and adjust using lumetri via a .cube file. in this case, you could save this as a preset. In some other videos, including the update to this one. I talk about that as well!

Thanks for the tips g
Brother I respect the hell out of this comment. Thank you. And this is an older video, but of course it’s doing the best for the channel and I never expected that. My new videos I try doing more of this but I also feel that being a salesy RUclipsr isn’t what I wanna be, so I gotta find that line. I like the idea of folks subscribing when they feel Inclined rather than marketing myself in a way where they’re convinced to. If that makes sense.
I’ve also remade this video a bunch for clarification and better branding. Thanks again for the comment.
@@Trentorials letsss gooooo…
And you remade it!
Wwww it is definitely the best video editing tip type video I have ever personally watched !!
@@FredrickSessoms hell yeah brother, thanks for being here. hope the new version helps too.
man i like ur colour grading can i get the coloul lut of yours or teach us make an tutorial
I don't use any LUT's but I do have a tutorial about color grading coming soon. ill be sure to come here and let you know when its published but in the meantime be sure to hit the subscribe and notification bell to see when its posted!
hey! made a tutorial video on the channel now since you asked about color grading!
umm hi.. what's the font that you're using in your videos ??
the font is called Mikela, no clue where I licensed it from but its a great font. three weights for some nice variation too
Thank you❤
Absolutely
thanks
For sure
nice tutorial man, I'm wondering what was the use of the "luma key" for? and as far as I know that if you want to add some kind of glow, you duplicate the layer and you add gaussian blur to the original layer not the duplicate, is there something I'm missing?
Any tip for beginners bruh ?
Join the livestream today at 1:30 Pm EST. I’ll be going over and helping anyone who’s on there with any questions they have. But if you are specifically asking about this effect I don’t know how I can make this simpler. But I’d be happy to see how I can help
is it possible to add this effect to my existing lut?
thanks
I don’t think so. A LUT is a look up table. Which contains information on how to color and adjust using lumetri via a .cube file. in this case, you could save this as a preset. In some other videos, including the update to this one. I talk about that as well!
the "up next" videos covered the tutorial! gah!
@@ruthiedarling5190 I have remade the tutorial! Hope the new one helps better
You are handsome!!!❤
Thank you!
But the color grading you had before how did you do it ?
What do you mean? The original footage was in log. So there was no color grade on it. It was just raw 10-bit video.
great
Thank you so much! Please let me know what other videos you’d like to see!
