You know, I have a Quest Pro collecting dust on my shelf. You know why? Because a firmware update bricked the controllers. I'm watching this video going "Yeah, sure would be nice if I had a working Quest Pro, WOULDN'T IT?"

I frequently watch my uncle's house for him while he's gone on vacation, and he lives in a big log cabin with plenty of play space for VR, but the whole house is dark logs that light does not bounce well off of, and I found trying to play a session of VR with the pro controllers starting in the living room (where the most logs are visible) the Quest Pro controllers just cannot handle it. But if I start off my session in the kitchen at their house, where there's a nice marbled countertop and lots of contrast for the pro's to see when they wake up... they track completely fine! I can then move back to the other room and they keep tracking A ok. Definitely starting your tracking with good contrast is vital!

Also, the panels are about 20ppd (same amount of pixels as Quest 2 but you can actually see them, Quest 3 is about 22ppd) but the Quest Pro has the same panels as the Pimax Crystal concerning all but resolution. Got these beautiful blacks (same amount of dimming zones) and insane color accuracy for an image that looks way better than Quest 3 did to me.
Of course, compression will ruin that a little bit, but the optics are insanely good, even tough the resolution could (should) have been 20% higher or so.

what you talking about i spent last night several hours with my steamlink quest 2 and pro controllers, and even weeks before that, they rarely do anything weird, and even then they are slightly misaligned which happens super rare, 20 second restart of controller and it will work long time, also for battery bank, anything 10k maH or maybe even 20k and capable of fast charge will be great for LONG sessions, use small belt bag to hold it, then put on slimevr and great allnighter is guaranteed!

Quest Pro is my daily driver for VRC. I have a similar neck battery as well. And yes I got those same globular cluster pads as well. The controller issues are a bit weird. Some times they work fine, but then there's an update and causes problems like overheating or tracking problems, but then there's another update that fixes it. And then another update happens and causes same problems...and the cycle continues.

As someone who has used both the Pro and Quest 3, I agree that the quest pro definitely has some huge edges up on the quest 3, but just for visual clarity, standalone power, and convenience, I would definitely reccomend the quest 3 before the pro, that being said, if you're leaning more towards PC VR, the quest pro is definitely a contendor.

Whenever the controllers get confused on where they are, I've found it helps to cover all three cameras for a bit, then uncover them, but even that isn't 100% going to fix it all the time.
The biggest issue I have with the controllers is overheating. I'll constantly get warnings in my headset saying "your controllers are too hot and will power off if heating continues!" so there have been times where I take the controllers off and set them on a laptop cooling pad while using scuffed hand tracking.
Honestly I just use my index controllers with it so whatever.

    • @Spelo1
      @Spelo1 2 месяца назад +1

It's not even heating that is the issue, the software just thinks that they are and turns them off.
A simple reboot of em fixes it easily since then software gets fixed up on that front too for some reason

I think The Verge was right though. as a headset for the introduction price, the Quest Pro had a ton of things missing and faults compared to the cheaper quest 2 with kit upgrades for half the price. On top of that, the user base it was made for wasn't an enthusiast market but people with little to no VR experience.
The Quest Pro really got shafted by the plan to market it as meta's web3 Rolls-Royce. I'm happy to see that the enthusiast community has found it a good and useful home instead.

  • @TsoLIt
    @TsoLIt 2 месяца назад

I went years with my index since launch because I never could find a headset that I truely thought was an upgrade.
I have to say, buying a quest pro 4 months ago has been pretty great. I do wish the controllers were not so wishy washy. I've had the "overheat" bug a few times now, and it's incredibly annoying.
I use ALVR to stream steam VR, which I find to be a nice compromise between Virtual desktop and Steam Links strengths. Plus the index controller emulation for the quest pros allows me to still flip people off and peacesign/finger gun.
My only major complaint is that it's impossible to keep the headset from dying if you have face and eye tracking enabled. Something people should be warry of. With brightness at like 75%, a 200mbps stream quality, and a 40,000mAh external battery, the best I've ever gotten was 9ish hours without a recharge. I know it's rare to want to spend that much time in VR, but sometimes the night is just a vibe, and it sucks to have it killed by that.
I have this battery mounted on the back of the HMD, and even with this chonker on here and the headset weighing 1.4kg, it still feels 10x more comfortable than my index ever was for me.
I was considering a beyond, but with all the RMA issues I was scared off. The quest 3 looked promissing, but I was already running ETVR and VRCFT on my index so I didn't want to loose that... the quest pro was the natural choice. 7/10 headset... would buy again

After starting out with a Oculus Rift CV2 I got a used Meta Quest Pro - mainly for the eye and facial tracking. With the closed off Rift where I couldn't see my surroundings I quickly got motion sick and couldn't really stand up while moving in VR. Eversince using the Quest Pro without the face shields those problems have completely vanished.
I don't think I will ever buy a VR-headset again without an open frame (and eye and face tracking of course).

Also, where does Pico 4 pro fit in this, hear it's the best headset with everything you'd want for vrchat, with eye and face tracking.
Very few headsets having that nowadays means a lot since they discontinued that from Vive facetracking product.

I gotta admit, this didn't really sell me on this headset at all. I see where you're coming from and I do respect some of the features mentioned, but all this is telling me is to either continue to wait for the next generation of headsets, or cave and get a quest 3. At this point though I'm leaning toward the former. That said, appreciate however that you didn't just sing its praises. You made sure to explain the faults as well and that made me want to listen to your input far more.

  • @Paridiso

This has been one of the better headsets I've owned. I would like to point out that scratching the lenses on this thing is very easy, so use a proper cleaning cloth and blow the dust off it when you do wipe them. As for the controllers, I have fairly good luck with them not freaking out (most of the time), and if they lose their sense of position I just cover the cameras for a few seconds and it forces the controller back into the right orientation. I do sleep in it, and it is surprisingly more comfortable and durable than my index despite being cheaper (only £600 from amazon a year ago). For avatars with face tracking, I signed up for Haï's Patreon for their FaceTra shape creator, it's pretty easy to add it to any avatar already owned. I can't go back to not having face tracking now, and it is a must-have for future headsets down the road.

Well I upgraded my reliable Rift S VR headset to the Quest 3. I got all my valuable information from other SIM racers. The Quest 3 is very good for me and doing SIM racing. The Quest 3 for me has good lenses, good color passthrough, and I connect it to my PC via USB link cable. My SIM racing games look very well to me. I have a flight SIM game, but right now don't do that kind of gaming
Only thing I changed on my Quest 3 for more comfort is going to the BoboVR S3 Pro head strap. plus the BoboVR S3 provides a larger capacity battery for the Quest 3.
I will stay with the Quest 3 for quite a while. META is always updating the Quest 3 with improvements and games I have tried other tethered VR headsets over the years, and were disappointed in them for different reasons.
    Take care.

I bought my Quest Pro for $300 off someone locally near me and Only Reason I bought it was because, the Pro Controllers are worth what he was asking. I figured why not. Note: I already Owned the 512GB Quest 3 which I believe is Much Better due to having depth sensor and better processor. But, overall design and comfort goes to the Quest Pro. I actually just ordered a Quest Pro Style Face Plate to mimic the Quest Pro off of Amazon. I highly recommend. It is Wonderful being able to have no pressure on your face and being able to breath. No more heat and no more fogging lenses. 😉👌

Foveated encoding and modern codecs won't solve the issue of video encodes being 4:2:0 chroma subsampled, it will look image quality wise worse than native video signal.

Im currently on and off with the Quest Pro and the Beyond, on one hand I want a full immersive experience, but I also want full face tracking, while the Quest Pro is cheaper, the other expenses that I need, like the external battery packs and the extra tracker, make it feel like the price difference isnt even a valid arguement anymore. But then also couple the fact that face tracking on the Beyond is.. well how it is currently, I'm not sure if I can put in the work to get the same quality that the Quest Pro has

@@nameit9076 The Quest line of headsets (In this case the Quest Pro) do not communicate to the trackers he uses for fullbody. By putting an additional tracker onto the headset, it aids the base stations he uses for fullbody to track the position of the headset better, making it easier for both the headset and the trackers to know exactly where they are while still not fully communicating with each other and reducing chance of stuttering.
      Something like that.

I tried really hard to enjoy the quest pro but sent it back before my return window closed, ended up caving in to get the Aero instead and felt like it has less compromises for me after some modding to it. Im certainly feeling nervous now though because the Aero and its tether are discontinued so its days are now numbered. If my Aero did Kick it though Id probably run back to a quest pro if It actually is half off at some point 🤔

I got the pro controllers for use on the Q2 and my first pair got stuck boot looping on the left one after a month of use. The second pair i got in exchange (in store which is nice because no wait time for shipping) have worked fine for me aside from SteamVR thinking my index finger is always on the capacitive sensor on the trigger. I've talked with pro owners about them and they have nothing good to say so i may just be lucky or its how they pair with the pro vs the Q2 idk. also "Hey Bonelesh

yeah, thanks for this video… I have a quest 2 and was thinking to upgrade to the 3, but after contemplating about all the options, the pro looks the best for the money and the eye and face tracking is what you will not get with anything else yet, I just worry about the resolution and the passthrough camera quality, does it have depth sensor? is the passthrough 3D? how does it compare to the quest 3 passthrough?

I had a quest pro, great hardware, but the meta os just ruins all quest headsets and every firmware its lottery of what breaks. Also needing your phone to register it is such a pain, same with needing to add a phone number to unlock side loading. It just made me want into vr less, i hope the quest pro gets jailbroken one day.
