Ah we've all been there when the damn camera battery runs out lol. Imagine 200 years ago when a guy's just tryin to use the outhouse around back and the damn whale oil runs out in the lamp or somethin.

Whale oil lamps started being used in the 1780s. Kerosene was invented in the 1860s and by the 1870s had all but replaced whale oil. It was still used in car's for transmission fluid up until 1973 and stopped only because they had an endangered species act put in place to prevent it.

Thanks for the weekly review, Robbie, especially after a hectic day. As usual, you mention a book not on the personal radar and your enthusiasm for Batman Off World undoubtedly will make me add a copy to the purchase stack upon visiting the LCS later today. Happy Thanksgiving and, once again, appreciation for your commitment to the quality of a favorite weekly show.

Another great review of a lot of books. I was speaking with David Pepose a few times in the past month, we spoke a little about the devil that wears my face, interesting to say the least in story, development and release. Glad, as always you give David a solid review, 👍 😊

First ever Daredevil comic I ever read was with him in that black armor.
I miss Brett Booth on Gunslinger. He is one of my favorite artists... I wonder what he will be working on next.

Great show (as usual)!! Still the #1 comic book review youtube show week after week. There used to be a few others I would diligently follow every week, but except for one, those others have fallen by the wayside. Looking at my pull list, Robbie hit on 11 of my 13 pulls! The only two missing are The Alternates and Black Hammer The End, both of which I completely dig. Happy Thanksgiving to all the PCP and comic book fam!

Dawn of DC has been AMAAAZZING. I would say that the books are even better than that of Rebirth.
The only thing it lacks compared to Rebirth is a large universal threat across the entire line or a story that the books are building to/setting up.

My first exposure to Dexter Soy was in Knight Terrors Ravager. I knew nothing about Ravager, or Dexter, but really liked the art when I flipped through the book so picked it up. The only Knight Terrors books I bought. Really glad to see him on Gunslinger now, a book on my regular pull list.

Holy Roller is ANOTHER comic where the main character returns to their hometown to deal with their family. Local Man and Radiant Black are the first ones that come to mind and I know there are more. Guess it’s becoming an Indy comic trope but I guess what the creators do with it is the most important thing.
And I’m betting when you said Jonathan Kirkman, you were thinking Jonathan HICKman. Frankly, I used to get their names mixed up too years ago and still sometimes associate the names!

Your review of the Wonder Woman comic hit me as how I felt in the Blue Beetle movie. My 7 year old nephew was so stoked from the trailer -- Im trying to get him into comics. Trailer is all action.
Then the movie just had, "Jamie talks to his sister statically 1 on 1", next scene - "The Kords statically talk to each other 1 on 1", next scene - "Jamie talks to Ms Kord statically 1 on 1", next scene - "Jamie talks to his uncle statically 1 on 1", next scene - "Jamie talks to his father statically 1 on 1". Of you thought you were done? Because next scene - "Jamie talks to his dead father 1 on 1" (at least it looked interesting that time). The movie just didn't know how to do any characterization or back story unless they completely hit the brakes and just switched to a 1 on 1 static talking scene with the characters doing nothing for over a minute. I was tired and it was losing me.
I forget what its called in movie making. I think its called "dynamic dialog", where characters talk but do something in the scene. Its a huge difference between having 2 characters just sit on a couch and talk (usually boring) and having them like be in a scene talking -- they tried in some scenes (like where he and his sister are scraping gum off the furniture). You still get the same dialog and character development, but you can get some physical jokes in as well. Or just some interesting movement. Instead of having Ms Kord and Blue Beetle just talk on the bed, have him changing into the tracksuit at her house and her trying to sneak a peak at him changing or something. Same dialog, but it becomes an interesting scene.
Video games try to do this with like your character havign an earpiece and you getting the dialog while still playing. Others try the "slowly walk with your hand to an earpiece" tactic Gears of War did, I find that boring (I thin kit covered loading's screens though).
Batman comics do it all the time while Alfred sets up the plot in Batmans ear yet we still get to see Batman jumping down and fighting some thugs. Alfred will usually quip "Is this a bad time Master Bruce?" and Batman will say "no just tying things up" as he hoists the criminal up on a rope.
Long point -- maybe Tom King needs some movie editing classes? Like how to do a "walk and talk" which is more interesting? Learn pace. Dynamic dialog. Still not going to stop him from putting like poetry verses in Batman though.
