    I like my low grades a lot because the pressure is off when reading and preserving it

    I appreciate low grade books. It means they have been read and have served their purpose. The interior artwork was viewed and the stories within them has been shared. And if I can, I try to find out a little bit of history about the book itself, specially if the sellers are the original owners of the book. Lots of precious memories can come with well read books.

    I agree, having one in any grade is better than not having it. I have a bunch of readers and I appreciate them as much as my minty ones.

    *_I think doing Restro on the damaged Batman/Beatles cover might be OK; as it's a book also many Beatles collectors want; and they have no idea what "Purple Label Of Death" is._*
    *_At some point you might want to train yourself or your guy at just that, Restoring damaged books._*

    Values may plummet, but accessibility rises so much especially in economies like what we're currently fighting against. More accessibility=more potential sales. Just my thoughts.

    I'm one of the weirdos who really doesn't care about the grade of a book I get, with exception, the cover has to present well and the price needs to be less than the fmv. I don't have a large collection but I'm more than satisfied with it for that reason, I was able to get the first appearance of apocalypse in a cgc 7.0 for $25 because the guy was just looking to get rid of it, and hunting books down in similar situations helped me obtain other bigger books that I never thought I would own even though they are low grade.

  • @theobsessedcollector
    @theobsessedcollector 9 месяцев назад

    I am happy with a grade 6.5 and up. I just don't want any missing pieces. Minor blunt corners, spine roll, waves, small spine ticks, staple ticks are ok too. I can always clean and press an OK cover myself. If it's for my own collection this is the way I prefer. Grades 8.0 and above are, for me, more important for selling slabs. A nice 7.5 or 8.0 is good enough for me, and I'm not all wrapped up in whether something is a Key or not. It's nice if it is, but that's not my biggest concern. James, I love that you have a wide range of products (low, mid, high) of pretty much all eras.

    Sadly, after slowly unearthing my childhood collection - a lot of my comics from the silver age to bronze age are low to mid grade. But I have to keep things in perspective. Many of these were hand me downs from my older brothers and cost me nothing. Others I purchased as a kid from garage sales or 10-25 cent bins.
    Thanks for your hard work, James! I’ve rediscovered my childhood comic collection from 35+ years ago and have been going through it. Your insight has proven very helpful to me!
    At this point, I’ve lost nothing by holding onto them for this long. They’ve been lovingly read by family members (or myself), and going down this rabbit hole rediscovering portions of my youth has been quite interesting. There are a small portion of keys, so time will be the judge of whether I made a good decision picking these up and saving what my brothers would have effectively thrown away if it wasn’t for my interest.

    Interesting Batman "Beatles cover". I vaguely remember rumors of Paul McCartney's death, and clues could be found on the Beatle's Sgt Pepper album (looking at Pop Art images), or if one played the album 'backwards" it had some type of cryptic message.

    Wow, DC sure did come up with some whacky plots for Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen for their self-titled series.
    The cover of Batman #200 definitely looks like it's suffering sun damage, especially the sun shadowing on the right.
    This collection for me stands out due to its Batman content, superb issues from a classic era.

    It's interesting to see low grade vs no grade from the perspective of the seller. For me as a collector, I'd rather pass on low grades and save up to get the same book in higher grade. The only exception for me would be for grails. And even then I'd buy a low grade grail, then save up and flip the low grade along with cash for a higher grade
