- What an interesting 24 hours. Got a great collection in! Trade it for a personal grail I once thought unobtainable! And then had to reverse it all just the following afternoon...

You're precisely 1000% nicer than I would've been.
I understood where he was coming from. It was his dads books and he missed em terribly after selling em
Wow- I think I would have done the same thing as you did - Like you say comic karma - it is out there
I would have asked the original seller for 5-10% more than the price he sold them to you at due to all the work you put into this.
He wasnt even in posession of the books anymore. I would've told the guy where he could find them and make a deal with their new owner.
@@shawnmichaud4484 I changed my mind. What you said. 🙂
I feel like I see these videos pop up every now and then, and it's so frustrating to me even tho I'm not involved. I think as a community we need to just collectively tell people "sorry" when these situations arise. It's too bad and maybe not ideal for the person that traded or sold books but once you make the deal, all bets are off in my opinion. Anyway sorry to see this happened to you, you're a saint. Cheers.
Thanks for the kind words! Yeah yesterday was a frustrating one for sure lol
I feel the same way. It would be like paying an eBay seller for the books, have them arrive, and then get messages that they made an "emotional" decision and want the item back. Sorry, no...but you are a better man than me, James.
They should compensate you for the trouble. I am down for giving things back since this hobby has a lot of emotions tied to it, but if I am giving back, give me a lil something as I am not morally required to
@@alexanderkliminksy7574 he kinda did, he got to keep the ASM 33
So he got a no interest loan from you and you unwound your trade with another collector? You didn’t have to do this
I don't know if I could have given those back. You went above and beyond on this one
That was extremely nice and empathetic of you. The comic gods will not forget your goodwill and compassion to the remorseful seller.
That guy was lucky ur nice and understanding guy alot of people would say too bad
I understood his situation! It was all that was left of his fathers collection. (Granted I’m not sure why it was sold to me in the first place though 😂)
It was extremely nice of you to get the books back and returning them to the guy you bought them from. And understanding where he was coming from wanting his collection back.
Thanks! I think so too
You and the guy who you traded for the GL, were OVER THE TOP understanding. Regrets are a part of life, but a deal is a deal.
You are a good man. I sold a bunch of my SA comics in '97 and instantly regretted it. But a deal is a deal. Have since reconstituted the stuff I sold. But it never would have occurred to me to ask for a go-back.
You’re one stand up dude for doing what you did. I know I couldn’t have done what you did. This definitely got you some good Karma points and hopefully when you do get that Green Lantern #1 it’ll be higher than the 8.5 you had to give back.
If there was a comic community equivalent to the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award, you just earned it.
Ah man, I would hate to be in this situation at any angle-yours, the initial seller, the trader. Hang in there bro, you’ll get that Green Lantern at some point!
Emotional attachment lol. I bet this guy either found out or thought he can get more money by sending these books to CGC. Soon as I heard these were his father's books that told me all I needed to know.
100% he either got a better offer or thought he could get a better offer
Couldn’t agree more!
Sending a bunch of lower grade silver age to CGC? Think about what you are saying.
Don't deal with that guy again...haha! Ridiculous.
Your stories bro!!!! Great editing!!!
Thanks for noticing the editing! I put a lot of heart and soul into it!
That happened to Me back in the 1990's. It doesn't feel good. But You gotta do what You can live with. Thanks for sharing Your passion and adventures 😎👍♥️🇺🇸🇨🇦❤️📚📚💯💯✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
As a buyer of collections I always, always set the books aside for 7 days and do not touch them. I also inform them that they will be set aside for 7 days if they change their mind, lastly I have the seller walk the books to my car and load them.
This is a mental trick on two fronts, first they have a sense of ease the first few days that are extremely difficult for them and the emotions that they have (getting over the hump). Secondly, I don’t want them having the feeling that I “took” something from them rather they “let” something go (loading my car). So far I have had zero sellers remorse and I have purchased 60 (roughly) collections in the past 5 years.
It’s all psychological….
Wow those were some great books. Props to you for giving them back. You are a better man than I am.
I appreciate that!
That is heartbreaking! Like winning the lottery then losing the ticket. 😱
This has the feeling of brilliant Karma for you🎉. A blessing in disguise, positive vibes for your, channel and many positive and beautiful things to follow 😊
Well Done. Excelsior 👍👍
Sorry that happened to you James! You're a great human for returning his comics! I'd Love that Amazing Spiderman#33.
And that’s why you sir, are one of the best ambassadors of this hobby
Bad business. A deals a deal.
I even sold/traded em! It def was a hassle getting it all back…
You a good dude man. May the comic gods shine upon thee for your good deed, which im sure they will. Also on a sidenote the clips and slides with lol comments in between keys were hilarious. 😅 gotta turn them frowns upside down somehow man. Have a good one
Dont think I would have given them back. If it had just effected me, no problem, but the guy I traded the books to for the Green Lantern is effected at that point. Code of honor dictates the deal with him stands. Guy who owned the books originally is now effecting someone who is just doing a deal with you in trade. All do to original book owners indecision. He made the decision, he owns his decision and should have never even called you to CHANGE HIS MIND! His dishonor! To you and too the guy you traded with. He didnt care how it effected you or your trade guy. Only in how it effected HIM! The guy the books were traded too now says to himself "What the hell was that"???
That's "affected" not "effected."
As a dealer, you must come across quite a few comics you'd like to keep but know that you should sell - tough decision sometimes.
One positive perspective is that no-one lost out, financially at least.
Crazy short box. Your a better man then most.
May the Karma God's be good to you.
Thanks for all the entertainment.
Wow! I guess it's a shop thing. I don't have a shop, so if I bought them and already traded them away, "sorry dude I don't have them anymore." Running a LCS is much tougher. You would want to try and keep your cliental happy as best you can. I mean the last thing you want is a heartbroken customer driving his truck through your front window. You did the right thing I suppose, and so did the green lantern owner. He kept your friendship alive and kicking. cheerz
I thought I did the right thing too. But agreed - no-one said the "right thing" is always easy!
Man, you deserve a medal for doing that!...not everyone would have gone through all that trouble but I think everyone who has given up their collection or lost it can understand. I have to give up mine years ago and still hurts
Man you are a great person with an honest spirit James. Not a lot of people would have done what you did
I like to think that I would have done the same. You wouldn’t have been able to enjoy that GL #1 under those circumstances. Good people do good things. Bravo.
The edits 😂😂😂😂 I was cracking up, you’re the man
Thanks!
As an old geezer that has many of those books that I bought and traded for as a kid in the 60's, I get the emotional attachment to them. Sometimes I wish that I would have sold them back in the crazy time of the covid price madness, but hey, money is not everything.
It was nice of you to return the books. Kudos, also, to the person who was willing to take back the Green Lantern #1. Sometimes it hurts to do the right thing. Good character was demonstrated.
fuck nice deal made is deal made james got video he stole nothin fuck this modern nice bitch shit im old school save good hearts n cocks sucking cry baby crap for nuns man james records has proof guy can fuck off guess i stand up n dont play games i know guy lied to james wanted shit back man!!!!
He was lucky that you were able to acquire his comics back. If my father collected comics and left me his comics, I would keep them until the end of my lifetime. You did the right thing. I look forward to the day when you make a video showing you having your Green Lantern issue 1. Take care.
He is VERY lucky.
Like others have mentioned in the comments, you are definitely a better man than I. However, I tip my hat to you for being such a "Stand Up Dude".
You did your solid for now and well into the future. After this, I’d say, “All sales and trades final….. no returns”!
I feel your pain man! I still have my FF Silver Surfer trilogy that I obtained in 1980. Low grade, but I love 'em.
Wow. That was really cool. You certainly were not obligated to trade back but you have heart which is never a bad thing. Cool story.
You are a better person than most my man. Most people I know are very much "No Trade Backs" type of people.
Sorry man, good on you for being so nice. I probably would've done it too...but i probably would've told him i was keeping a book or two for my troubles and wasting my time.
Wow, what a tragedy. But much respect for you and the Green Lantern owner for getting the guy his books back.
You are to nice! I would have been sorry not sorry! 😂
If it was my best friend who wanted the comic back, I would think about it.
A stranger? Hell no all sales is finale.
At least you got to use a Jim Lahey clip from Trailer Park Boys in your video😂 I'm sorry about your trade, though... that's definitely a bummer.
No backsies once you leave. Did he have his mom call you? Lol
Had the trade for the Green Lantern not happened I can understand being kind and giving these back but since another party was involved and a deal already made I would not have.
Normally I can’t stand the intercuts that RUclipsrs do as they as they learn their craft…. But times like these are the most appropriate time to be using them.
I would absolutely love to own an ASM #33 again. I sold my copy around 20 years ago and I regret it every day.
You’ve got an entry!!!
YOU ARE THE WINNER JOHNNY! Message me on instagram and I'll get your info so I can send you the ASM 33!!!!
You had to give all those back.. damn. I would have never given those back. Its going to be very difficult getting those books again. Or very expensiveto get those books back in your PC. Kudos to you for giving it back though.
Comic Karma is real, so all will be made right…plus besides a funny story, that’s one of your funniest videos. Keep hunting, my friend!
Wow both of you are very understanding
That hurts, you went above & beyond on this one.
Wow - no way. A deal is a deal. Love your vids. Thanks for everything.
Major kudos to you for being such a great guy to return the books!
I won't lie I thought about saying no a couple times!
@@MintHunterComicsyou should have! A deal is a deal!
no deal a solid dead man bull crap why comments so soft cos yall act like guy too want books back ohhhhh i just happened find money wow! bull shit guy lied regreted w james end point!!!!
You’re a good dude James…that must have been painful. May the comic Karma gods repay u tenfold some day
As far as giving back the books , that was really nice of you , a deal is a deal sorry he had seller’s remorse but that is his issue . I sure many have that same feeling but if we did that all the time there would be anarchy
Heartbreaking. Good for you for giving the guy back his books since they meant so much to him. That can’t have been easy.
So , he used you for a short term loan. I would have sent him to the guy who you traded with. Say, he owns the collection now, you have cash. Buy it from him.
you had every right to sell them back at a profit
I guess this is one that you have to consider as a character builder. You’re a good man.
That's one way to look at it! I like the positive attitude!
Ouch... youre a solid dude for giving them back. 👍🏼
I hope so!
Sorry for your loss. You guys are really kind.
I appreciate your kind words!
Just another great video from you!! I hate to see that happen to you. I would love to add that ASM 33 to my PC too! Just another great reason to watch! Keep on hunting!
Way nicer than me. A deal is a deal
So I was thinking more about this after I commented. I had a situation come up here where I live with a shop I go to, and a purchase I made. I know the owner and his brother. Both good guys, and are always happy to help me find stuff. So naturally they get my business a lot, especially on Silver Age stuff (I have the same Green Lantern fascination as you). So They had a Mutt and Jeff (Golden Age book, slabbed) for like 50 bucks. I loved the history behind it, because it was printed and distributed while the Allies were gearing up to invade Europe in 44. It's not particularly valuable, just neat.
I went in and bought some books and grabbed the slab, as they were holding it for me. Paid, and went home. I noticed that night that I hadn't been charged for the slab. Now I do not like owing anyone money, and I also do not like taking advantage of people I like. I went back the next day, but the owner and the Comic guy weren't in. I left the message about the situation, then came back in today and made sure they got the money for the book. It wasn't free, and I have zero interest in being a thief. The Comic guy was there, only asked for $40, and set me up with a discount moving forward.
I guess the point I am trying to get at is that, sometimes mistakes get made. It sucks, but having a strong moral character is a thing. I do believe in karma, and I think that this will pay forward. I also think you killed the idea of the "evil reseller/store owner" stereotype that is out there; at least for this guy. I know I would rather do business with someone with integrity, and you've earned more of mine in the future for sure (after I pay my car off....)
That was real cool of you to give the comics back. You'll get something even better in the future!
I'm banking on that Comic Karma!
I know it is heartbreaking but you did a great thing, You will get your grail.
I think so too!
You did the right thing we need more people like you
You did the right thing!!! Great job. Another opportunity will come around.
Did we just have to comment?
Naw, that deal would have been completed. Your seller remorse is not my problem.
In other news ........ the Edgar Church family relatives are asking Chuck to return their family's 20,000 golden age books.
The Church family was robbed. Just sayin’
@@darthrooster1 BS ..... The Church family called a whole bunch of dealers and none of them wanted to make the trip to visit the collection. Chuck was one of the last people they called. Chuck was maybe 19 years old, barely had any money, and had to borrow money to buy the collection. He also had to give first dibs to the people from whom he borrowed money. If Chuck had not bought the books, they would have gone into the garbage, like some of the other comics they allegedly threw into the garbage. They were trying to clear out the house, not maximize the value of a collection. Chuck has done some questionable stuff, but he did not rob that family.
Ahh sellers remorse.. thats why its so hard for us to part with our collection, especially if it has a personal connection like books you bought personally off the rack long ago or as a young teen, kid whatever the case
Sr. when you make a DEAL ( This goes to the other party and other people in the community ) AS MEN !!!!! , you stay with the DEAL !!!!!!! . Forget the "emotional attachment " you may have . You should have thought about it before thinking to sell the items . If it was my case , i would have said : "JUST TO BAD MY FRIEND " .
Speaking from my soul, exactly! Imagine spending time assessing a collection, negotiating a number, formulating a deal with a subsequent deal, then going back for all this. Absolutely not.
Great of you, I don’t know if I had given them back after all that work
Wow, you are one fantastic, understanding person. I had a very similar collection of SA Marvels that I sold several years ago (mostly FF, SS & Thor books). Still have pangs of regret to this day even though the proceeds went to a very good purpose at the time.
I gotta say, comic dealers are cutthroat where I am. It’s def dog eat dog, so if you’ve got sellers remorse…sorry!
Good on you, man. Giving back his father's books was a VERY honorable thing to do. And i hope you get the all comic karma you deserve.
You're a very understanding person. With that being said, of my own PC, all but my X-23/All-New Wolverine books are on the trading/selling block. Not that I have other stuff a lot of people would want, however, it's all good stuff.
I can only imagine the gut wrenching feeling of having to give back a personal grail. But kudos for doing the right thing - comic gods will for sure reward the good karma down the line.
Days later it's STILL gut wrenching. And now that GL #1 found a new, different home.
You are a better man than me. I don't know if I could have given them back. Those ASMs would have filled holes in my collection. Hopefully karma will get you back.
Uh, if you paid money for the collection, and had already traded it away, I would say that qualifies under tough luck. We all make stupid choices, you need to learn to live with them, life isn't fair and you're not entitled. Screw his "emotional" attachment.
Comic karma did remember this, That’s how you obtained the collection from him and got the lantern in the first place.
He better be glad he had to call you and not me! That is just a ridiculous ask!
Heck no! All sales are final. You are to nice, but that also makes you awesome.
Too nice...the deal was done
😮
Bro, I mean BRO!!! YOU are one awesome guy to of done that! Wow! Those were alot of books I will probably never own, so sorry bro 😢
I appreciate that
Heckuva story. But you did the right thing. I guess it would have better to take a nap and the dude never walked in. Dad's books!
As a business man that's buys and sells comics you went and did more then what was fair. You had made a deal and had no obligation to get them back to him. Both you and the other person involved are better people then most of us and we all should strive to be as kind.
Hey Golden Rule and everything, it was probably hard but it was the right thing to do! Good on ya James!
Some books have sentimental value that a price can not buy.
Damn that sucks. Respect for giving it all back a lot of people wouldn't have done that
I wouldn’t have
Man that sucks but thats very awesome of you especially in the day and age we live in i hope Comic Karma comes back to you
Love your channel , keep up the great work !!
Some of those Bats are in fact keys…
Sighhhhhhh
DUDE! That sucks! However, I would have done the exact same thing. I bet good will come out of this and you will get that Green Lantern #1.
this is a nice sentiment, but seller beware. i would have told him that sales are final & i already moved them. i believe he took advantage of your good nature
Glad everything worked out in the end but man that has to be hard
I have to be honest. I get you were trying to be nice, but it was a move I don't feel you should have made. I wouldn't have done it. You spent your time and resources to make a fair deal with the person, shook on it and a deal was made and paid for in good honest faith. I have sold many things in over the years that i regretted and felt I didn't need to sell, but I still did it and held to my deal. Did I make a mistake in selling those items , maybe, but I made the deal never the less and learned from my mistakes. I think that individuals sense of entitlement to come back after the deal was made and ask for a return is absurd.
I would have given him the contract information of the new buyer and allowed them to come up with an agreement
