Basement Collection Update… Even MORE Amazing Comics Discovered!

- Hey guys, here is a quick update and follow up on the amazing collection I discovered a few weeks ago. While delivering bags and boards the owner tells me he discovered even MORE comic books stored in a huge cedar chest! Obviously I have to go through these too, but can we strike gold again?

He’s a guy that just really loved his comics. He kept them for so long and enjoyed reading them and just having them. a awesome experience.
This is why I like your channel, you appreciate these books you help people out. I don’t pay any attention to value. These books brings back good memories. I remember where I was when I bought these books and what was happening in my life. Songs evoke memories and so do comics. Both my parents are gone, I miss them very much. I have memories of my mom taking me to quick shops to buy comics and getting Marvel Treasury Editions for Christmas. The precious memories is my enjoyment of comics. You are sharing your precious memories with us. Keep up the great work on these videos!

You did right by this guy. I am helping a friend of mine sell some of his books too. He had 2 copies of New Mutants 98. One was a 9.8, the other a 9.6. He had an X-Men #50 signed by Jim Steranko and lots of other great books, mostly modern stuff. He let me keep an Amazing Spiderman #301 for helping him out. I just enjoyed going through his collection and helping him make some money

I've gone through a few very small collections for friends over the years, always a fun exercise; and I enjoy re-bagging and re-boarding their comics as we chat.
The cedar chest would have kept out paper-chewing insects - if not for that, the damage on the ASM #50 could have been much worse.
Some of my favourite comics in my PC are battered or water-stained, we buy them to read them and enjoy them.
Looking forward to the next update.
Fantastic finds! I love all the mini stories with your neighbor and the bond you two are creating. I wonder if he would be open to just a Q+A around mining his original memories getting these great books. Could be a lot fun interviewing him!

A terrific series. I like to see the footage of you going through the comics. I bought a small collection from a gentleman a couple of years ago, mostly junk but with a few Marvel silver age heavy hitters…first Marvel Captain Marvel, first Carol Danvers, first Guardians of the Galaxy, a lot of 60’s Silver Surfer (all the good stuff was square bound books for some reason.) Love to see collectors score big.
Finding a cache of comics is one of the greatest things a comic collector could hope to find. You got two great pickups! Issue 50 of Spiderman hanging up the suit is the most iconic/legendary thing ever!
I work with a guy who has 70s books in his garage. His kids didn’t want any of it. Had lunch with him and his wife. He told me to pick out what I wanted and we’d work on a price. Ended up getting giant size x men 1, ASM 129, marvel spotlight 5 and tons of major keys. He priced them out- and charged me even less. Score if a lifetime and made a friend for a lifetime.

I'm probably basic here, but I just love the McFarlane Amazing covers, specifically 316. I gathered up the entire run when I was in my early 20s.

At the end of the day these comics were created to be read and not because they might have some collector value in the future. It is nice to hear that the guy read many of these when he was younger and shows the enjoyment he got in the fact he remembers the stories and characters. I thought about this earlier when watching a youtube of all slabbed comics and thought it was a shame they would only be artwork in future as the story was inside the artwork

ASM 50 is my favourite comic of all time for the reasons you gave and 51 isn’t far behind. The early Romita issues from 39 to 56 are all absolute classics.

I do try to support my LCS especially when they have sales (the Lunch Money Comics way) but if you are buying large quantities of bags and boards you might want to order direct from the manufacturers. One I have used gives free shipping with a minimum order (1000 bags + 1000 boards were enough). I have a large amount of comics from back when I was doing conventions in the late 80s and early 90s but a lot of my overstock are 5 to 10 comics per golden age bag and decided I need to protect them better and/or replace the bags they are in.

Those comics must smell good after being stored in a cedar chest! Cedar is also supposedly good for repelling certain bugs.

Maybe i missed it? Was all this collected by this gentlemen? Or was it a comic collection passed down to him in some way? How could he have such a large number of all different titles from all different ages and really not know much about them? Good thing he has you helping out.
They were all his and he collected and read for decades, but he hadn’t looked at them in over 20 years and never really cared about prices.

Tales Of The Zombie is my favorite.
It followed the story of the same Zombie (Simon Garth) through all the issues, which is unique in that most Zombie stories are one offs or have the Zombie as 1 demential antagonist.

I don’t have 53 but it was one of the ones we found in the collection. It was actually in the original footage I ended up cutting out, but it was in really bad shape.

Depends on where you live in Mass. That’s Entertainment in Worcester is great, as is Comically Speaking in Reading and Nick’s Comic Strip in Danvers if you are north of Boston
