    My grandpa was a wood worker by trade, owned his own cabinet shop and then went on to own a hardware store. I was fascinated by everything he did, even making keys and mixing paint. lol. I just loved spending time with him. He built his addition, helped us build our addition back in the 60’s and built us furniture, did a lot of woodwork inside their new house etc. He was very talented.

    I'm looking forward to seeing how you stack your firewood so that you can always get to the seasoned wood without having to dig through the fresh cut. When I was growing up, we made several stacks, always ensuring that the bark side was up on the top row to protect from the rain and snow.

So proud of you that you were able to face your fears on this project. That takes guts! Glad you didn't get up there on the back half though. Al is a little more experienced up there, although I know that had to make you feel anxious with him being up there. I know I hated when my late husband was up high doing things. Glad you have that extra set of hands helping you Al, that is always a nice plus. Good to see you too Olivia, I hope school is going well for you.

    If I could turn back the hands of time 50 years, I'd do exactly what you're doing. Back in '69 I was 21, fresh out of the service and starting the American dream. Run your own business-build the dream house-big cars-country club membership-boat at the lake house-even a private airplane. I accomplished all those things. But there was something missing, I eventually liquidated everything and purchased a few acres of land, built a small house and began farming the land, and raising some ducks. I found 'that something' that was missing. I suppose it's different for all of us, but a connection with the land and the simple beauty of a sunrise on a frosty morning is more than enough for me. I only wish I would have made the move decades sooner. Thank you so much for sharing your lives with us, you'll never know how much it means to me and many more just like me.

    Great work today, Gina. Watching you dare to get your sea legs reminds of learning, as a young man, to master my fear of heights to work on high ladders and rooftops. My co-workers called me "10-rung man" because I tried to spread myself across the maximum number of ladder-rungs, and because I tended to freeze up when I was more than 10 rungs high. Eventually I got over it, and you will, too.

    Nice shed but I'd suggest putting a gutter over the front part, otherwise you're gonna get a lot of rain water creeping in. I know it maybe not that good to look at but it avoids any damp build up at the entrance. Good luck!

    • @markflajsner9944
      @markflajsner9944 5 лет назад

      sorry I realise I did not explain myself properly, without any roof overhang protecting the openings, you're going to get rain falling inside, obviously how much depends on which direction the wind blows the bad weather, even if most comes from for example the rear, I am sure like where I live the wind brings the rain normally from the west off the Atlantic Ocean but many other times it'll blow from all directions, and when really stormy, it blows horizontally!! I recently put some guttering up and extended the roof by 4 feet, all to prevent some old wooden cladding from rotting. Good luck again, enjoy the videos and like many, full of admiration for taking on such projects, a heavy responsibility - you're fortunate indeed to have essential family contributions to help ease the workload!!

    Gina, I have to hold on too. One thing that I have to remember is to breathe. Once I start breathing I can relax a bit. I try remember that I don't need a death grip as I am standing on my own two feet and they've supported me all these years... That holding on is only giving me a frame of reference when my head decides to swoon. One other piece of advice besides practice is focus your eyes at your project and blur out the background... And don't forget to breathe. Sending you lots of love 💝 from sunny ☀Arizona 🌵

    Kudos to Gina for getting up on the staging. I've worked with people that could scramble around on staging and wall plates like monkeys. Not me, my toes would curl around like I was trying to get a death grip with my feet. Safety tip with staging. Don't stage materials on your walk planks, they're a trip hazard. Better to put more planking across the top rails of the staging behind you to set tools on and stage the materials on or behind that.

    I built a basement under my house with stairs going down. It was warm but not too warm as the moisture from wood drying didn't need to be in the floor. I could put five cords of wood down there and it sure was easy and convenient for me to get the wood needed for the mrs., to keep house warm. She could if needed get down there cause we had our largest pantry down there. I sure miss that house that took the two of us about all told three months to build then work on for the rest of the time I lived there. Houses do need maintenance from time built. Ours was appraised at four hundred thousand dollars and we cut all the lumber off our land and only bought the fancy moldings and what not plus the brick for the two fireplaces. We put the king stove inserts in the fireplaces as we intended at the start

    Gina: I don't want to, but I will! She, like most of us, will find the next time isn't that bad. After a while, she will be racing you to the top :-) Having said that - the look on her face was priceless

    Al, southeast Tennessee is cool almost as New Hampshire. We woke up this morning to a 57 degrees. Normally August is our hottest month and the temp doesn't start cooking down until about the middle of September. It feels good.

    Heights are no joke to folks who don't like them, well done Gina. My last 10 years living in New England I worked as a steeplejack all over that region.
    After seeing your dragon on the release vent yesterday I found an ordered a cannon for mine LOL

    Hey Gina, a good person on the ground to hand stuff up, is more valuable than a scared one on the scaffolding. I love how the two work together!

    Al, for what is worth... I would remove the dirt directly in front of you woodshed entrances due to ice/snow build up, not to mention that small roof section will be dumping there also. Having grown up on a small farm like yours (goats, chickens, Pigs and bees) in Maine this would save you some grief. Should it not be an issue for you, you can always put it back in the spring. Love you videos, it takes me back to my youth. By the way goat’s milk makes awesome yogurt...God Bless and have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! Bert

    GOOOD Morning! I love the new barn, the wood shed looks like it’s going to be awesome. I feel inspired by how your place is coming along. I was set up already in NC but for family reasons had to move to KY. It was hard finding the motivation to set back up but watching your channel over the last couple of days, me and my boys are getting started this weekend!

    Good mornin New Yolk City .... The Apprentice getting introduced to "walking the plank" ~8^) Oh I know how she feels .... I've been up on some high (high being relative) scaffolding doing some painting and it can be disconcerting at first, although I don't think I ever really felt entirely comfortable up there. The barn nor the woodshed build heights would bother me. It really is situational whereby not all heights are the same. It's a matter of trusting the structure you are working on .... you get used to it .... mostly ... heh heh! Take care AL, Gina & Olivia .... have a nice Labor Day weekend.
