  • Our buddy Ralph (Blown 440 Roadrunner).asked if we could take a look at the 426 in this 68 R/T because it had some minor drivability issues. We didn't think much of it until we actually saw the car it was in, and then it was love at first sight!
Here's a quick walk around of the car pointing out some of it's finer features and the details that are unique to the 1968 Dodge B Bodies.

I personally love over-restored cars. And I love when they look stock, but are way faster than they should be, with a FAST series car being the extreme.

I agree. Where it looks completely stock from the factory yet it has today's suspension and drivetrain technology hidden under the metal.
And one thing I really like is when it has original gauges, like speedometer, Tach, clock etc.
I never got into those digital dashes that started popping up in the 90s. And I get it, they're much better for something you're taking out on the track and trying to be competitive with, but I just love those old style gauges and dashboards

I'd actually rather have an over restored car, and I don't even care if it is numbers matching. In fact, I wouldn't at all mind having a clone, as long as it was done right. I am not a collector, I want a nice car to drive. I am not a fan of the redline tires, I'd probably put RWL BF Goodrich Radial T/As on it. Not quite period correct, but they look great. I don't mind if a car has been mechanically upgraded parts, as long as they don't ruin the looks. What I DO mind is when somebody puts computerized electronic JUNK on a classic car that is supposed to be all mechanical. So many people have literally destroyed these cars by putting a modern computer Hemi under the hood, and 22" GHETTO REEHUUMS on it. I see undercoating underneath. I have seen undercoating used to cover up all kinds of horrible things. I hope that is not the case with this car.

My late father bought a new 1968 R/T with a Hemi. He ordered it. It was yellow, with automatic transmission, power steering (requested by my mother) 3.55 Sure Grip and full wheel covers. The Hemi's got plain 15 inch wheels because those were the heavy duty police wheels, which may have been on the D-100 pick-up's too. They were not standard service 15 inch wheels, but heavy duty wheels. They didn't have the Magnum 500 wheels as an option, because those were not made in a heavy duty version. When the R/T arrived and my father was disappointed by its performance. He pulled the distributor and swapped in a dual point Mallory distributor and all was well. We drove that car all over the country and 10 years later, it was pretty rusty, but I was driving it to high school. Direct Connection recommended that the constant voltage, solid state voltage regulators be used with the Mopar electronic ignition. The two field alternators can be used with the mechanical, points regulators, if one of the alternator fields is grounded. I've done that, just by looping a wire from one field connector to a screw on the alternator.

Upgrades are ok, as long as they’re tasteful and serve a purpose on a car like this. I’m sure a lot of them were done with drivability in mind, and even Jay Leno isn’t above improvements on cars worth more than my house if it means he can drive them anywhere he wants to go with them.

That yellow is a favorite of mine, and it’s a gorgeous car. Without knowing what the issues are with the car, I’m going out on a limb and saying it’s going to be the advance curve in that distributor, it’s going to have too much centrifugal, and those cars like a lot of initial and limited centrifugal. The power brake booster and master cylinder lid should be black.

I belong to the Buick Club and they're pretty good, but how many 2dr. hardtop Electras do you think they [GM] made? Fenders and quarters won't line up! Or window glass?? Sorry sir, good luck on your search! But there is another issue. My Buick has 21.5k ALL-ORIGINAL miles that I don't want to run up. Even the brake pads and shoes are factory original! My poor car sits WAY too much and I have considered selling her. But where could I ever find such a pristine car again??? I trust this car because I was involved with the purchase start to finish...had 3.6 miles on her when we picked her up and brought her home. Thanks for letting me vent, Uncle Tony!!

Don't understand the need of a fuel pressure regulator with a stock type Hemi mechanical pump unless it is over 6 PSI. And the pressure gauge...how do you read it down there? Other than that a really nice high end resto. Chrysler threw these cars together back then and not precision assembly like on a resto. Factory cars had paint runs all under the hood. I know....we had a new 1970 Hemicuda and it wasn't that nice under the hood or in trunk. It came with a leaking torque convertor seal and had to go back to the dealer next day!

It has the other foo foo - fender trim, turn signals on hood, blacked out rear tail light panel w/chrome bezels. I'm starting to think my 500 is more rare than the R/Ts ! It had the split bench with fold-down arm rest, extra lighting - so nice. I miss it more than the 'Cuda. 👀

My car looks like new after 20 years and 70,000 miles of driving it,1970 Charger 500 restored and still people think its a year old restoration.I drive in rain and got caught in snow once! Even parked outside for 1 year while I was building my new house and garage, car had frost and rain, wind blowing on it and it looks like a show car still. I did add factory style undercoat but still zero rust or bubbles on the paint.A few rock chips nothing major! The 383 Magnum still runs strong and its done up a little, bullet proof reliable and 12 second 1/4 mile capable with 3.23 gears, but its a sweet driver that sends me back in my seat and chirps 2nd its all I need, plus can smoke them at will on a roll with no brake holding! I dont bag on my keeper cars, dont buy the ones I am selling those get the whole 1970's type movie driving style treatment lol

I know I am going to be getting a lot of hate for saying this, but as beautiful and over restored as that Coronet RT is, if I had it, while it would still be beautiful, it would not remain quite as perfect as it currently is because it would have a few small flaws in various areas of the car. The reason why it would soon have a few minor flaws is because it would be doing exactly what it was meant to be doing from the moment it was first assembled by the guys at Dodge. THAT CAR WOULD BE DRIVEN ON A REGULAR BASIS. It would not be a trailer queen or a pampered princess that lives it's entire life in a climate controlled carpet floored garage. It would still be garaged at night and during the winter but during the spring, summer, and fall, it would be on the road and if it were to get rained on, OHH WELL. I would keep an eye on the weather for things like hail or extremely high winds that could knock branches out of trees or even topple entire trees... you know... the things that would have me headed for a place to get it out of the danger zone. I don't care if a car is a $1,000,000+ 32 Duesenberg SJ, a 48 Tucker, a 71 HEMI CUDA, or an authentic original 65 Shelby 427 AC Cobra. THEY WERE BUILT TO BE DRIVEN, not to be some museum piece that is kept hidden away from the world under full security and surveillance and is considered to be too valuable to ever truly be enjoyed. If you want to own a museum piece, buy a Van Gogh painting or an original Wanted Poster for Jessie Jane or Al Capone.

Friend had a 68/69 (was the 70s man) roadrunner. Black, bench seat, column shift, rubber floor covering. It was loud & terrifying. Yet a 454 chevelle always beat him.

I appreciate and love it too, but like you, I wouldn't want to own it, it's too pretty to drive! I do all the work I do for the pleasure of the DRIVING experience, anything else is secondary, my cars aren't silver hunters, I like to keep them tidy, but that's all!

Yes, that's a museum piece, show stopping trailer queen, absolutely should never be driven, kept in an environmentally controlled and sealed environment, and kept out of the direct sunlight.

Uncle Tony, love your channel but what is it with you guys that review pristine cars…everything has to touched repeatedly leaving a conscientious owner with the task of walking around and cleaning all the skin oil and salts off pristine surfaces?!? Don’t mean to sound anal retentive but this stuff collects dirt and impurities that can lead to deterioration. Spoke my peace…keep up the great work!

For a $127.995 i would want all small flaws to be corrected. Crazy amount of money for a budget muscle car back in the day.
