- Today on Let Dirt Fly, we do a complete Free differential mod to my girlfriend’s 1999 Arctic Cat 300 4x4. This same mod can be done to other Arctic Cats around this era!
Just did it today, frankly was a bit skeptical it was going to work but worked to my surprise, thanks for the video. Quickest modification I’ve done in a long time and really amazed it worked.
Now I want to see if my 500 has that ability
Had no idea about this, its crazy that Arctic Cat didn’t just give diff lock from the factory, could have been a good selling point. I have an 02 500 that locks in and out somewhat like that, I’m gonna have to see if I can do this mod on it. The 500 is already a tank in the mud and it would be even better if I had the front locked!
Up until 2002 Arctic cat used complete Suzuki drive trains, I have a 1987 Suzuki that is identical to my 2001 arctic cat 300, arctic cat did change a few things like the carburetor, and apparently Suzuki did not want them to use the differential lock that is standard on my 87 Suzuki
Gonna try this on my 250 4x4
What shocks did you use I’m trying to find some for my 2000 artic cat 300 4x4
Its works!!
Niiiiice
What shocks did you use ,I’m wanting to lift mine ?
I heard this Doesn’t work on 02 and newer models mines an 02:(
Thanks for the video.
What machine are those shocks you put on there from ?
They’re from a 1998-2003 Honda TRX450. I got them on eBay for around $150 for the set.
@@LetDirtFly trx450 as in the foreman?
Nice Quad, I got the same bike for 100 also!
Awesome! We unfortunately sold it to a family member, but we miss it as a work horse! They're great quads!
@@LetDirtFly they sure are. It pulled my 2200lb 76 f250 down the driveway.
Could this cause any damage
How important is it to keep the 1 inch difference in the tires for a 4wd
Because the great ratio is different
That's stupid they don't just give you diff lock from the factory if it's basically already there. Do you know if the 500cc of the same year has diff lock?
Im not sure to be honest. I think they are completely different diffs because i think they're all time 4x4
My dad has the same one but its a shut box state and clutches slip does anyone know how,to replace the clutches
Adjust the clutch first. Thats probably all it needs. Right hand side at the front of the rear wheel on the engine case there is a round plug you need to remove. Inside is a locknut with a screw in the center. Loosen the locknut, back the adjuster out a little, then turn the adjuster in until you feel it start to get snug. Then back it out 1/8 turn and tighten the lock nut up, making sure not to turn the adjuster when you do.
Yeah sometimes its that main centrifugal clutch
What is the name of the piece in front of the seat
The black piece? The gas tank
I have one amazing quad i take mines deep deep
Thats a do not touch. You will ruin the diff.
It’s not a problem, Arctic Cat used Suzuki engines and complete drive trains, Suzuki has the diff lock on the controls, but I think Suzuki wouldn’t let Arctic Cat use that option. 2002 Arctic Cat made some changes to their own drivetrain
Bahahah. They wouldn't have built it into the differential if it would blow it up instantly... you only use it when you are stuck. Then you turn it off when you are trail riding, simple enough.
