The final chapter in Banks' Behind the Diff Cover Series, this episode kills wives' tales and puts rumors to rest. It's the culmination of hundreds of man-hours of R&D.
The new patented Banks Ram-Air Diff Cover cools 5X better than all flat-back covers. It’s the best at lowering fluid temperatures, it increases fuel economy over flat-backs and helps your axle bearings, carrier bearings, pinion bearings, and the ring and pinion gears last longer.
Banks Power exclusively uses and recommends Amsoil SEVERE GEAR® Synthetic Extreme Pressure Gear Lube. All Banks vehicles in this test series used Amsoil 75W90 gear lube.

I know one thing. Not only is Gale Banks one Hell of an engineer he is also one Hell of a salesman.
I've worked in sales. I always ask for all of the information. "If you give me all of the information, I'll figure out who needs it." Gale gives you facts and lets you make an educated decision. @@Thelastcritic Naaa. If someone else was doing it better he wouldn't have made the diff cover.

hear hear - totally agree
I’d agree, but with their substandard “engineering”, they have probably used substandard aluminum. But I like where your heads at!
That was an engineering wonder.
More fluid takes longer to heat up, but in that cool down test after the hill climb it also showed it will take longer to cool down. The mag hytec only dropped 6.5 degrees whereas the stock cover dropped 10 degrees and the banks dropped 14 degrees. always interesting watching Gale's videos, learn something in every one!
He really sold me when he called them “Ass Hats”.
@ Banks Power
If one actually takes Gale's statement literally, that what those "flat-back" diff covers LITERALLY are: "ass-hats". 🤭🤣😂
(He just didn't say, "pun intended"... 🤣)
It's great how he calls them asshats, saying extra fluid is bad and doesn't help with cooling, and then proves himself wrong when the aftermarket cover with the extra turbulence runs 28 degrees cooler than a stock cover and fluid amount in his test, proving the extra 3.5 quarts of fluid is helping cool by overcoming the extra turbulence and still running 28 degrees cooler. Classic 😎
@@chrisweivoda9592 So double the amount of oil you pay for to make up for shitty design?
That's not what I said at all. My point was he's saying extra fluid doesn't help cooling, then proves extra fluid, even with a worse design, runs cooler.
We dont deserve Mr Banks, may the Gods of Speed grant him many more years of excellent health and happiness

The dislikes are the other diff cover manufacturers 😂
That's what I thought. And the ones who bought them. Lol
haha but really he is a sales man, the product seems to be good overall. He comes across as slimy to me. He is twisting stuff and doesn't need to, let the product sell its self. Similar if not the same as stock fuel economy, way better cooling, and extra lubricant to the axle tubes. He tries to distract you with test results and visuals and doesn't give the whole story is one example. My two cents like the product comes across as a car sales man. :D

The amount of information for this ad feels so alien compared to every other manufacturer for anything. No claims without data. No dumb eye catching cinematics of slogans. Just straight, sweet, facts.
Industrial mechanic here. I REALLY like this vid. The bearing and lube theories we used for reduction gears was, while static, the lube sump level had to be 1/3 of the way up the lowest rolling element (bearing or gear) in the assembly. That would allow for the distribution of the oil by drawing it up and over the other elements. Any deficiencies, like all of the ones pointed out here (cooling, distribution of lubrication), is a design issue. Well done...

You can always count on Banks to give us the info that’s actually useful , and school the comp in the process 👍🏼
The fact that it shears off if you do run over and hit something is a good design because it means you wont won't crack the housing and lose any diff fluid it will just shear the fins off
Yes, That's the point.
I feel like it would be better to have an Xtreme Offroad™ version without the scoops and with fins that only extend to the edge of the cover, specifically for use in environments where you're likely to whack the diff on something. I doubt anybody will be doing 55mph offroad anyway, so the scoops probably aren't as much use at low speeds.
@@mememaster147 You can just do a rapid uninstall of the scoops yourself, with nothing other than a 4lb hammer! :D
@@mememaster147 the only thing is with the exception of Baja racing you aren't going to get air flow off road over the cover to get cooling anyways. That's why most of the off-road differential covers are extremely robust and some of them have an exoskeleton girdle to protect it from getting dented in or broken. They are much more worried about that than they are the airflow
This guy is quite the salesman. The stock covers are fine as far as fluid temp is concerned. The MagHitec covers have a port on top for a temperature sending unit and yes they run cooler than stock. Then there’s the millions and millions of real world testing without any issues that I’ve heard of. The reason guys have been running these flat covers for the last 30 YEARS is for the drain plug, dipstick, fill hole and you don’t have to remove 14 bolts every 15000 miles to change the fluid. And they’re not designed to break on purpose.
Guy is pretty much a savage. straight savage. crushes everyones designs and feelings.

@@scottcampbell2836 everyone gets offended. You sheeps act like u wont get offended almost like u dont have feelings
He's a savage but he's got so many runs on the board there are very few manufacturers who could take him to task on it - seems like everything he makes is the best product you can buy.
I wish all companies went through this sort of rigor to design products! As someone who is in the 3d design field i can relate to being in a meeting and the boss scrapping everything :) but this was for good reason. Looks like an amazing product!
I’ve had this on my 24 GMC 2500 for months now and It makes zero real world difference.
I can honestly say that after watching that entire video, I am extremely impressed, and that says a lot. If you have taken that much time and energy to make something as simple as a rear diff cover even better than the one from the factory, and better than pretty much anything else on the aftermarket line up, I am pretty sure that the mainstay products you originally made are just as impressive.
I have been around cars, trucks and heavy equipment for more than 90% of my life, and I have heard of Banks equipment for a long time. But I haven't really gone too far into the aftermarket or hot rod section of the diesel industry. My experience with diesel is extensive, but mostly just for repair. I keep the gas side for the hot rodding. But now that I am in the market for a new 2500 series truck and pretty much getting the diesel engine option, I am definitely putting Banks on my list of improvement, aftermarket parts.
Thank you for all you do.
I wish more manufacturers were as smart and diligent as Mr. Banks.
They are, they just focus on different customers. Banks focuses on customers who are willing to pay for quality R&D and aren't afraid of doing their own research. That leaves millions of available customers who just want something not stock that still want a product to buy.

How so? On what points?
@@bradfordcustoms7588 how about the fact that looking at a top mount rockwell axle differential makes his "fluid dynamic" claims null and void. Due to the fact the bottom of the axle housing, where the ring gear sits is a very shallow dome, and the sides are made like a rectangular tube. Heavy duty axles don't have humps around the ring gear and have done fine for 50+ years.
