Ah, beautiful Jersey. I lived there for17 years, still miss the place. Corbiere lighthouse looks great perched on top of the rock. Excellent video Nick, now I'm home sick :) Cheers,
Fantastic looking boat, real passion from the owner/designer. I can feel the love and pedigree put into the build. Just great. Would have appreciated some more technical details. Elnght, beam, engines etc. However I will research some more on this beautiful craft.
Beautiful boat, made light work of the chop. It’s just over 3 times the length of my speedboat, and about 12 times the horsepower, I’d have struggled with some of those waves but I’d try Dover-Calais in perfect conditions. I managed to reach Fiskardo from Nidri (Greek islands) but then the afternoon wind came up and it got a bit too choppy so had to find a mooring and a cheap hotel room and come back early next morning!
Some of the best views of land are from the water! It looked a perfect day for crossing the channel so we didn't see the boat under any stress but speed. You had a delivery crew of three: what were their purposes?
Great video as usual!! I have a fuel consumption question. You say 18 litres per hour per engine, total 36litres per hour at let’s say 25mph (maybe more) that works out at a little over 3mpg? That seems extremely good for this boat or have I got my maths wrong?
All our consumption figures are based on both engines The 18lph figure is for 8 knots (just over 9 mph), so its more like 1.12mpg At 21 knots (24.1 mph) we were burning 120lph, so 1.09mpg
We clocked 5.8 litres per mile at 21 knots. Based on a 118-mile crossing from Jersey to Poole and £1.10 per litre, that's about £750 - call it £700 if you do a bit of displacement cruising and fill up in Jersey...
Really enjoyed the shots of instrumentation, outside views, coastal landmarks and shipping. Not so much the facial conversations though. Never an easy balance but you can talk over the other views.

Nice boat but the helm instrumentation is very light. No analogue dials. If I had a boat in the channel I'd be constantly nipping across to Calais for their fantastic chips... hmmm they're divine
80 litres per hour per engine is about £84 in marine diesel which sounds scary but a hotel & tickets even if you don’t fly to cross would cost more & be less convenient / fun..
Everyone, let's all pitch in and get Nick a pop filter for his microphone. Then, as a "thanks" he can take us 1 by 1 for a ride on "Smugglers Blues" Of course, we will have to get to the UK ourselves. Lol , me, I'm in Northeast USA, so might take me a while. Sound like a plan ?

Not fond of the step up idea... it looks like a tripping hazard to me - and I don't see any functional reason for it. If it is for head room below then maybe a ramp up instead? Step ups in the main walkway are just a bad idea on any boat, but especially coming from the galley to the dining area since it is likely (according to Murphy) that you will have scalding hot food in your hand when (not if) you trip.
I couldn’t even afford to be a deck hand on one of these boats, but I sure like to do the walk through like it’s 5 grand and I’m looking for a co-signer! Haha
Actually Italian do like American engines a lot. So Cats and Cummins are faily common with the exception of Absolute and Cranchi who are full of Volvo engines. What it is hard is to find Cummins in an English boat.
PowerYacht Well I don’t know what channels you’re watching but the channels I watch where the brands like Azimuth etc are regulars it is about all MAN. Which not really a surprise if you can go the financial extra mile for a fully spect 72 foot azimut flybridge boat the extra 100-150 k euro for a set of mans probably doesn’t brake the bank for that owner and he/she will get more quality
No, this is Motor Boat & Yachting magazine's channel. Nick is a regular contributor to the magazine though, so tests boats and shoots videos for us for this channel.
What’s that got to do with it?... all I said was a nautical themed watch would be more appropriate than an aviation themed one. I don’t see the connection between matching styles with being envious.
Kind of sad, I saw you were piloting the boat and perhaps wanted to engage some of the particulars of making a crossing, but almost impossible hear you.
Always look forward to opening RUclips to be greated with 1 of your vids nick. Makes my lunch break :) I'm no fan of Italian boats and this is no different. I'd rather any UK manufactured boat over this.
As an Italian I agree. Too much fibreglass everywhere inside. I'm sure it keeps costs, weight and maintenance down but anything Italian is notorious for appearances over real quality. And it's not like the boat is cheap either way. Italian friend of mine took me to Southerly Yachts to help him buy a boat. He wanted British toughness.
Sailing yacht, even a fifty footer if you're experienced, or even smaller. Motor yacht, depends on range. 70 foot but some smaller boats can do it and many larger boats can't. Displacement hull VS planing
Good Lord that architecture surrounding the Jersey marina. We need a standards authority which puts the brakes on building bulk ratboxes in nice locations for weekenders. No ubiquitous international bolshevik style allowed. It wasn't impossible in the past to make things that looked good, were functional and represented the historical tenor of the place that they were placed in, therefore it shouldn't be now. This would not only please the eye, but i'm sure, bring far more long term value to the structures that are built, not only for the those viewing the built landscape around them, but for those whom have invested in these places too. It would engender pride in place, rather than just baseline utility. Of course we can't have that anymore now can we. No, no.
Im going to ask a daft question here...... If you travel by yacht to another country...... Do you require your passport and if so, were do you show it?
Yes you do, there are special ports where you have to announce you are leaving/entering a country (there are names for them but I don't know the English term). They check your passport. In some countries they are very strict about this, in some they wouldn't let you do it if you really tried (Italy *cough*).

Very nice boat, great video. Not sure I like to pod at the fly bridge with the plotter in it
For such a large boat I think there was a bit too much hull slapping, not to mention the ‘ wet’ ride it makes on the windows. Thanks for the review.
From my limited experience, most boats of this type are the same.
Large plaining boats are crap in anything more than six inches of chop.

Ride is very choppy. I guess typical for planing hull in rough sea. Displacement hull would do better?
