The giant Kraken tasting bad is kind of just Ryoko Kui showing off her ecological and culinary knowledge. Giant squids have a large amount of ammonium chloride apparently and taste horrible compared to their smaller counterparts.
On most fantasy hobbits halflings tend to live longer than humans but less than elves/dwarves. In D&D they live around 150 years (depending on setting) and Tolkien's Hobbits live about 100 (Bilbo and Frodo lived longer because of the One Ring). It vary a lot by setting, though. I don't know if you consider it a spoiler so I won't say how it works in Dungeon Meshi (it will be said eventually anyhow), but from Chilchucks reaction you can assume that elves and dwarves are "long lived races" while half-foots are not. As such, 29 is at least an "adult" by Chilchuck's standard, but would be a kid for elves and dwarves, according to Marcille and Senshi.
Kelpies as per mythology are pretty docile until you sit on their back and attempt to ride them- at which point they pull you under water to kill and eat you! And they are actually an Irish/Scottish mythical creature!
Btw, I said before that orcs in Japanese media are often pig-like, but I think Dungeon Meshi is actually unique in them being boar-like. Like, it is an iteration on the pig-orc concept, but it is not all that common. Most anime orcs (and JRPG orcs) are more like farm pigs, so not really furry, I think.
For Chilchuck's age, I think it was meant as a subversion of the subversion, and also some worldbuilding. He starts to say he's 30-something, before being honest and admitting he's 29. Then everyone makes fun of him for being so young, and such a child. We expected him to say he's really young or really old. Instead we get him saying a pretty respectably adult age for anime characters, only for that to be made fun of for being extremely young. It also tells us that Chilchuck knew he'd be mocked for not even being 30, he himself worries he's still a child among these older characters. Idk I like the way that's written, the characters are so childish most of the time, but they're a very adult-aged cast to consider a 29 year old as the kid of the group.
>He starts to say he's 30-something That is actually just a slightly confusing translation. He starts saying "th-" because the sentence starts with "this year", he is just hesitating, not thinking in saying something else. In Japanese he starts with "ko" which isn't the start of any kind of number, it just the first syllable of "kotoshi" (this year).
57:20 "There's not much lore implication" if you're don't consider it's lore implication. The whole plots in the painting is lore implication, a heavy thick lore implication. Anw, you did make some notes on those painting later tho. 1:00:16 Yeah, barely anyone say it, but glad that you point out the picklock tools usage foreshadowing. You said it don't need to exist, but I believe this scene can say about how thoughtful of a adventurer Laios is, he's practical about tactic in dungeon, and it make the show feel more real as a character struggles to make a dicision. 1:21:45 About the Chilchuck's age and background, I recommend keep watching (tho this might take it to ss2). Quite upset me that people keep talking about this topic even there are scenes about this in the series later on and people accidentially turn their excitement of sharing to spoilers. 1:27:40 Senshi thinks that magic is just like waving hand, doing thing without efforts (was said clearly in the anime) and that is opposing with his character of hardworkingness. Later on, Marcille shows him that magic, in fact, also need hard-working practice and a lot of efforts (this was shown more in mange with some panels of her making soap) so that loosen his tensity against magic and let her do her things more, character's development.

After episode 10, you will have a lot to analyze.😉There are a lot of hints in these earlier episodes.
