They most likely felt intimidated and envious because I’m sure your beautiful hair and confidence shone in the hall that day! You should have stayed and smiled through it, let the shame and your unique beauty eat them up
It’s because they can’t get your hair, but you can straighten yours to look similar. They also like people holding them as a beauty standard and you rejecting that is an actual insult to them. They don’t want people to see the diverse beauty that Black people can achieve because then it deep down inside makes them feel more insecure. Those that aren’t insecure don’t have those reactions.
❤ from Kenya 🇰🇪. I am also trying to wear my natural hair with minimal manipulation this year. I started getting scalp irritation from extension braids.
Our natural hair can be beautiful. I’ve been natural for over 20 yrs with bra length hair. Two yrs ago I wanted a change so I did a TWA (which I’m enjoying). Currently, I’m at a crossroads on what to do (grow it back or continue with short hair) because I really enjoy wearing 🧢 hats and headscarves. Now I’m growing my hair & my Afro pushes my hats up which saddens me 😢. I was thinking about trying out wigs because I like the look of straight hair with baseball hats and various headscarf styles but I don’t want to get hooked on wigs. Afro (natural) hair and hats IMO don’t pair well 😞
With hats it can be a challenge unless you wear visors. I like the look of a visor. Makes me look like I’m going golfing it’s a very cute aesthetic ⛳️🏌️♀️ Have you tried them?
Yeah this I what i need to do in order to really learn my hair. I always switch between wearing my natural hair, extensions or going to the stylists. My loose natural hair has never been out for long term
I always wash my hair every day, but I use Oil’s. It cleanse my hair very well and my hair is not greasy. I will use a clarifying shampoo once a month.

The reasons you’re doing this are the types of reasons that have us wearing our hair for the long-run, and not just as a temporary fix until it gets “long enough” to relax, straighten or disguise it with weaves again. I think it’s very important for us to begin setting the beauty standard for ourselves, instead of trying to prove that we can squeeze into a standard made by or for other women (who also have pretty hair, but it is theirs, not ours).
For myself, I’m no longer okay with religiously stretching textured hair. My hair is much tighter than yours, so even at 12-15 inches, it’s still giving cheek length for most styles. My hair will shorten throughout the day and even though small comments can still bother me… I am starting to believe myself when I say it doesn’t need to appear long, because my texture isn’t my enemy - the expectation for it to mimic a non-textured curl pattern is, though.
