As I am one of those who fell into the rabbit hole of "productive" youtubers, I can say that after two months the whole thing feels like a scam, they all just talk the talk, repeating themselves, saying the same steps over and over again where you can't actually see the real life, thats the real life for a person who does that for living. It's so refreshing to see a person who actually shows how it really is, who talks about how important is to work and try to succeed in something while taking care of themselves in a practical way. I could write so much more but I dont want to bother you. Anyway, this video is what I call an inspiration to be better at life.❤
Hi Martina, thank you so much for your comment. It really means a lot to me as that is exactly what I'm trying to do with my channel. I really don't want to ever "talk at" people and tell them what to do, but rather just share my journey, so that viewers can take what is helpful, and leave what isn't. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and to comment :)
I agree. I have instagram but never post statuses, never DM, removed profile photo, new followers, fewer following. I use it less. It’s boring, fake and time consuming
I like that you talked about being uncomfortable sharing provocative pictures. I have a lot of my male coworkers in my following and immediately felt the male gaze at the office when I started sharing pics of my progress at the gym. It doesnt sit right with my soul, deleted the app off my phone this week.
I totally get that. I can really see benefits to IG, especially being a small business owner now, but it is a very fine line to walk between personal and professional. I hope the break goes well for you and that you find it restful and refreshing as I did :)
Be real you were not posting your gym you were posting you A and body and that’s all girls nowadays want to make every picture provocative. Instead of being professional and ethical.
I think it's a wise decision. I removed all my socials ( incl my OLD profiles) as well. it only fueled the most negative aspects of my psyche ( pride, vanity, hedonism) while at the same time only offering a facsimile of connection and being a general timesink. it's only after a while you start to realise how estranged we are from each other. most people can barely strike up a conversation without having a panic attack. we're a spiritually broken generation tbh
Such a great point. I also noticed the more time I was spending on SM (which increased the overall screen time on my phone/the internet) my social skills really started to decline. Hopefully with more awareness we can start to repair some of that brokenness out there :)
There’s a lot of great points. I especially like the part about consuming less and producing more. Also the idea of living a life of positive influence. I’m on a similar journey. For me I gave up a bunch of stream services like Netflix, HBO Max, etc., and now want to focus on producing more. Anyways, dropping in to say this was inspiring!
Agreed, instagram imo only shows the edited side of someone’s life but not the whole picture. And, like you said if you want to encourage young women and young girls to feel valued and value themselves. I’d highly suggest reading proverbs chapter 31 Proverbs 31:10 KJV “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:30-31 KJV Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: But a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; And let her own works praise her in the gates.
i went through a hard time 2 years ago . And i would always post these vulnerable moments of myself and having people watching me who didn’t really care about and i would expose myself too much and i also had people that never liked me watching my life and it honestly made me uncomfortable
First, I love your energy! I find it super interesting that so many people are coming out with these kinds of videos, and they all have the same general message: 'social media is toxic'. I agree completely. I deleted my social media accounts (TikTok, Instagram, FaceBook, etc.) around 4 months ago and have much less of an urge to compare my face and body to other women. Thanks for making this video!💜
Love this topic! I also don’t post on social media and it feels like I’m going against social norms. Funny enough it feels incredibly freeing. I hope more people will go against the grain of what modern society demands of us and we forge on a healthier and meaningful pathway
I loved how real you were in this video, I’m 16 and I just deleted TikTok yesterday but I still have Instagram but I want to get rid of it eventually too. ❤❤
Wow! Thank you so much for your video! This is truly so refreshing and I can totally relate to you! I deleted Instagram in feb 2022 and have not restored my account since. It has been quite challenging as being in college and in my early twenties it is definitely far from the norm, even though most of my close friends totally respect it. But meeting new people in this day and age the first thing they ask for is your Instagram 😅 But mentally, I haven't looked back because it truly helps a person to not rely on external validation, to work on oneself and to stop thinking about living up to certain standards! Truly soooo freeing to have the time and mental capacity to spend on more important things! ❤
I didn't have instagram for most of my time in college, so I can completely relate to what you're saying. I applaud your willingness to listen to your own needs vs the social norms, as you mentioned, because it is really hard! Glad you enjoyed the video and found it refreshing :)
Bravo. IG is corrosive and a time thief. I think we often forget to factor in the background static social media has in our lives. It may not be front of mind but it’s always lurking in the background affecting us.
Inspiring story! It’s very difficult for many to get off the social media platform I think for two reasons: the fear of missing out and the addiction people get to these little dopamine hits of getting likes, comments, etc. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has an excellent TED talk on this, getting attention vs paying attention and how social media gets you addicted to getting attention. Anyways, enjoyed listening to your inspiring story!
Thank you for sharing this video. I have been trying to reduce my time on Instagram but have been struggling. For the longest time I thought that I follow people that I'm inspired by, so it's good for me. But in reality that wasn't the case at all, I was consuming all this stuff but forgetting it the next minute. It's like attending lectures and not actually taking the time to go and do the assignment- which actually takes hard work. It is easier to just seek more pleasurable content to soothe me. I read your comment on how we can quit as you said deleting the app doesn't work as it's easy to get right back in. I will try the method of resetting my password. I feel like I've wasted my teens to social media, so hopefully I can change that around before it's too late. Also, I really loved your analogy about handing someone a picture of your bikini pictures. And it made me think about how I'd feel handing each and every one of my followers my most recent photo... it's nothing bad but I'm such a private person in real life, it would be so out of my comfort zone to share that much. Thank you again.
My biggest problem is that Instagram and Facebook (my worst addictions) are really helpful for learning about events, posting about your events, marketing, etc. That's what I'd have a hard time parting with, people depend on my posts for learning about events. Also the DM's are really helpful for making connections and staying in contact with important ones.
I know what you mean about the promiscuous comment. I started to feel icky that posts of my body got more likes/comments than when I talked about real issues etc. It was so shallow & repetitive. I stayed off social media completely for 2 years! It was the best. Then I went back on got addicted again ugh and now been off instagram for 2 months now and I don’t miss it. I feel that peace of mind that I missed when I was offline ❤️
Your thoughts, feelings, and position on this subject are so admirable and morally inspiring! Thank you for sharing and taking your stand. I look at the big picture and realize that the goal of IG and other social media platforms is to use people to promote their products (marketing) and they do this by monetizing the views - so yes, it is a business and we are its consumers and promoters.
100%. I think when someone can step back like you did and see SM for what it is, it is much easier to have a healthier relationship with it. It all starts from a place of honesty. I appreciate your insight :) Thanks for taking the time to watch!
@@wanderingwithcarolineAside from time and mental health, what if one day RUclips or IG decide they no longer want to pay for your services? They could leave you high and dry.
Just found your channel and i really like your videos 🥰thank you for making this video! i love hearing people talk about this topic as I am also so passionate about it.
Yeah I have reflected on much of the same things, and I don't think that this topic concerns women more than men - we aren't that different to eachother. I've been through two rounds of almost purging my social media presence since 2008 and I've come to realize that it's happening in cycles for me, like that some anxiety level reaches the top and I react with the flee or fight instinct, but always comes back for a new round. Social media is a tool, and like any other tool in the real world you can harm yourself on it, but with practice it can make wonders for your cause.
I agree with this 100%. Being off of it has taught me as well some of the "bright sides." Like most things, it isn't all good or evil. Maybe that is the next video topic!
Thanks :) As of now I don't plan to expand to other platforms other than youtube. I prefer the long form format. If I ever did, I'd probably hire someone else to manage it so I don't spend the time on the app.
I feel what you are saying. Though atm I don't feel like fully deleting Instagram because I can still see some benefits (and prob also for "anxiety" reasons), I can def relate and felt like deleting it at times, and who knows... maybe I will sometime in the future?
It's very much a personal decision, I could see myself going back in the future, but right now I'm enjoying the break. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts :)
This is definitely a thing! I've been trying to get more "put together" in the morning just so y'all don't see me looking like a ghost LOL. But i've noticed it has actually helped my productivity and confidence throughout the day! I will try to think of some outfits to share in one of my next videos for you. :)
To quote Betty White during her appearance hosting SNL: "I didn't know what Facebook was. And now that I do know what it is, I have to say it sounds like a HUGE waste of time."
Great video. But I just want to ask, how you you get over the fear of missing out? Like I usually just watch other people's stories and stuff but I ask my self do I really need to be watching other people's lives. Not knowing what other people are upto gets to me all the time. Any advice would be helpful. I just want to delete the app and not care about other people's lives.
hey there! I've learned much from your video, which really help me a lot. Could you talk about how to quit these social media APP in next video? I dislike these but I cant help using them haha. that's magic😢❤❤❤
Hi! I'm so glad the video was helpful. You bring up a really good point here, which I totally did not think about. What I would say, and what helped me, is a couple things: 1) Deleting the app, but I'm sure you have probably already done or tried this. I think it is a good step, but given that they make it so easy to get the app back, I recommend taking other steps as well. 2) I changed my password to something I would not remember, fully deactivated my account. and did not save or write down my password. Even though you can still recover your account through a "forgot my password" mechanism, this will make it a bit more challenging, and sometimes increased energy cost is enough to get you to not jump back on the app unconsciously. 3) I think maybe most importantly think about why YOU want to quit the app, or any other habit you feel is negatively affecting you, for that matter. I think the more personal it can be for you, the stronger your "why" is, and the more motivated you will be to stay off it. I wouldn't just get off IG because someone else is telling you to, I would really think about why you feel you should get off it, and make sure it's a very personal decision, otherwise, it will be pretty easy to fall off any habit change in my opinion. I hope that helps. :)
Instagram and social media in general is such a waste of energy and time. I’ve been way better off without it. I also enjoy trips and vacations more than before.
Off topic, You've got really good hair😍 I quit FB and IG a while back and I'm not planning on going back, Too much pressure to feel validated and at the end of the day it's all smoking mirrors.
i think this video will get over million views in the next weeks....has NOTHING to do with your looks, and its one of those titles that get views. i know which videos have the views.
Hey Wandering with Caroline, really nice video ! Deleted all social media. It’s boring now honestly
It is more boring, most times I use this time to sleep, 5 months off
I agree. I have instagram but never post statuses, never DM, removed profile photo, new followers, fewer following. I use it less. It’s boring, fake and time consuming
So true. People don’t even really post that much anymore. Everyone is just stalking one another.
