Watching Nellie and her mother get their occasional comeuppances was a real treat! :-) Just as a tidbit-Allison Arngrim, who played Nellie, is the brother of Stefan Arngrim, who played Barry in Irwin Allen's sci-fi TV series "Land Of The Giants." More than you wanted to know? Perhaps, but you get to know a lot of things when you lived thru the days of pre-cable classic TV :-)

i was always confused by this as a kid. she could have really hurt nellie olson. was it pointed out that this was wrong of laura? sure, it was wrong that nellie lied about her condition, and took advantage of others, but the payback was a little extreme. if it happened any differently, nellie could have really been hurt. maybe i'm over thinking it, but this really screwed up my moral compass as a kid.
Something scared the heck out of tv producers and they removed all human dynamics of serious morality in 198-? from programming. Ok, kids get scared, and rich consumers are perfect, but I liked this scene.
Actually the louder screaming wasn't her acting it was her real panic because a rope broke. Can't see that scene without being afraid of the actress gets hurt even I know she didn't get injured. 😢
I like the bit where Nellie got dunked in the river reminds me of a time when I saw a kid pick on another kid and he did a Judo 🥋 throw and landed the kid on his back.
