Imagine multilateral agreements between neighboring countries in the Middle East for consecutive two years. Since there is always an overlap in population between countries, we will always find relatives across the border. How would such an arrangement influence the feelings toward the neighbors? Let the neighbors figure out for themselves who they want to deal with and under what conditions, (all the firearms aside). The generally accepted law and order should be in place to prevent the misuse of this bilateral privilege. There is a good chance that cross-border friendships will form, and that segregation will soften and eventually diminish. Wouldn’t the insecurity that is now riddling both sides of the fence, vanish? If you can’t imagine such a situation then there is no chance to seek peace.
