*First episode of Jung & Naiv in the Middle East with Israel's security advisor, Dan Schueftan*.
In this 90-minute episode we talk about:
_What's going on in Israel? Why is there war? Is it about religion? What is zionism? Did Jesus come back in 1948? When und why was Israel founded? What happened afterwards? Is there dumb and smart optimism? What was the British mandate? Why is Israel such a happy nation? Why are there so many wars after its foundation? Who fights against whom? Are Arabs capable of pluralism? Why does Dan think Arabs are barbaric? Why does Dan hate Disneyland? Do Europeans live in Lala Land?_
(Thanks to the ever awesome Brent Sluder for a new theme, thanks to Sadaf Mirzaei for the new graphics.)

I think they are not trying to keep their sins away, because the israelis justify the attack or bombing of GAZA in the way that arabian liga trying to destroy them. So as result they are making so strong and merciless policy against palestine or groups who wants the same for israel! They have no other option. They are surrounded of muslim countries and have no way to do it other way. Try to live on continent surrounded of christian countries like in balkans.

Wie krass! Eben erst - I've just in this moment, when I wanted to write a comment, realized, that this interview took place 9 years ago! But it is today still as actually informative and relevant as it was 9 years ago I think.
But I remarqued a little mistake or slip of tongue, that happend to Mr. Schuftean, when he seid, that Hamas was founded in 1978. As I know, Hamas was founded in 1987...
But doesn't matter! I appreciate the cool, friendly, sometimes a little bit ironic but always very patient way, in which Mr. Schuftean is making an effort to explain the history of the middle east conflict from the very different thinking and view of life of most of the jewish people against the view and thinking of most nice and well educated but therefore also rather naiv young european people with their happy and comfort lifestyle experiance (like living in Disneyland) to this young podcaster who represents his young european audiance very well with his questions and comments, which sometimes seem to relevate his non understanding or non believing of what his interview partner is trying to tell or to explain him.
Thank you both for this honest and authentic conversation!👍

    Several points here:
    1. He is extremely well trained at framing arguments.
    2. What he says about optimism hit the nail on the head.
    3. There are Muslims and Christians in Egypt who coexist and they actually do marches together. Egypt has an orthodox Christian church.
    4. A lot of Arabs and Muslims do only want domination and don't like anyone who isn't Arab/Persian and (emphasis) Muslim in the part of the world. The thing is, every group of people wants to dominate too: Christians, Jews, Muslims, Whites, whatever the majority is or whoever has power wants to keep it and treat the other people like shit.
    5. He is right about dictators in West Asia too...Let's be real Iraq was better off under Saddam Hussein than it is now.
    6. Arabs don't know how to coexist and how can you expect them to? That part of the planet has been invaded, controlled, or exploited by Romans, Greeks, Mongols, British, U.S. etc. We put in place the Shah, we supported the Mujaheddin (Al Qaeda, Taliban, etc), supported Saddam, supported Mubarak, supported Ghaddafi, etc. We still support King Abdullah and let Saudi Arabia do whatever it wants just like Israel (America's two favorite spoiled brats). Not to mention wars, sanctions drone strikes. The Arab world is probably the most micromanaged area on Earth.
    7. The Palestinian people support Hamas because looks out for them and they have no else one to turn to.
    8. His assessment of Libya is also right on target.
    9. This man really is the personification of Jewish excellence and superiority complex.

I would question who is accountable for allowing a charity worker to go into an overseas on-going intensive war zone, when there is plenty of lifesaving opportunities in their own country. War-torn environments are zones that require specialised training and intense military awareness for self preservation. A noble deed doesn’t necessarily equate to an intelligent action. I would also question the commercial stations for the way they feed their popcorn-chewing narrow minded audiences. (AIIA and Chatham House would be a far better choice for receiving quality information)

Think about how he might be right with his perspective. We people in Europe can afford to live in 'Lalaland' because we have shamefully forgotten about history. Just go and ask the descendants of the North American Natives, or the Mayas, the Indians, the Kongolese, the Malays how it turned out for them to be naive towards Europeans a few hundred years ago. Ironically, without exploiting these people, modern Europeans would not be able to live in wealthy Lalaland. But yeah, today, we can forget about all these petty things.

Very interesting discussion. It would have been more interesting still if he was asked to clarify some of the foundations of his worldview, for example what is a barbarian? Can barbarians become civilised? Is it the obligation of civilised people to rule over or dominate the barbarians? What is the qualification to be recognized as civilised? Are all Jews civilised? Are all arabs barbarians? Is there a reliable test for determining a person is civilised? Is it possible for civilised people to regress to barbarianism? The more clarifications we have about what exactly Zionism is, the better for everyone. It seems to me that Zionism and globalism are closely related, perhaps even identical.

    • @DeviYim
      @DeviYim 6 месяцев назад +4

Zionism only expresses the desire to have a self-determined life in a state that offers Jews protection from pogroms, persecution, dispossession, expulsion and discrimination after 2000 years of exile. What this has to do with globalization is beyond me. And he explained your other questions with many examples. Maybe you didn't listen properly.
      "what is a barbarian"
For example, someone or a society that strives for violence and war more than to provide a good life for its family/citizens.
      "Can barbarians become civilised?"
      Yes, of course.
"Is it the obligation of civilised people to rule over or dominate the barbarians?"
No, of course not. Civilized societies should strive for the well-being of their people and protect them from barbaric attacks. In other videos he always emphasizes that he is in favour of a unilateral withdrawal from most (96%) of the Palestinian territories in the West Bank. In 2005 he supported Ariel Sharon's withdrawal from Gaza and parts of the West Bank.
"What is the qualification to be recognized as civilised?"
For example, not threatening his neighbors with extermination, as Hamas does. To build a pluralistic and democratic society so that its citizens can lead a self-determined and good life that is life-affirming, instead of raising its children to martyrdom and paying terrorists who blow up civilians in buses, restaurants and bars with high monetary rewards.
      "Are all Jews civilised?"
No, of course not. In other interviews, he advocates the shooting or arrest of Jews in terrorist attacks on Palestinians, just as Palestinians are shot or arrested in terrorist attacks. Every society, whether democratic or not, also has "uncivilized" people who are criminal and violent or want to impose their way of life on other people, such as fascists or religious fanatics, but in democratic countries these people are currently a minority.
      "Are all arabs barbarians?"
No, of course not. He said that he knows many good, decent Arabs and that there are probably millions of good Arabs, but they form a minority in their societies. In his remarks, he distinguishes between individuals and societies with group dynamics. In Germany there were also good people during the Nazi era, but the society and its leadership was barbaric.
"Is there a reliable test for determining a person is civilised?"
He is not concerned with individuals, but with societies and leaderships. He considers Iranian society, for example, to be very progressive and open-minded, but its leadership is not. In other countries, such as Jordan, he considers the leadership to be trustworthy, but not the society.
"Is it possible for civilised people to regress to barbarianism?"
Yes, he cited Germany as an example, where a parliamentary democracy existed for the first time before Adolf Hitler came to power from 1918 to 1933. Or Turkey, which took a positive direction with Atatürk and is now moving backwards under Erdoğan.
"The more clarifications we have about what exactly Zionism is, the better for everyone."
Zionism means striving for an independent Jewish state. But Zionists are not a homogeneous group. There are left-wing, right-wing, secular and religious Zionists, but they all have one thing in common. The desire for a place of refuge where Jews can live in self-determination and freedom. Zionism is the emancipation of the Jews after thousands of years of oppression and persecution.
"It seems to me that Zionism and globalism are closely related, perhaps even identical."
No, globalization means worldwide interdependence in the fields of economics, politics, culture, science and others. Zionism means striving for an independent Jewish state. Two words with completely different definitions and nothing in common. There is no international financial Jewry, such constructs only exist in the brains of anti-Semites like Adolf Hitler and other people who believe in "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion", such as Hamas, which refers to them in its founding charter.

I can easily guess what he'd say to the war crimes. Something along the lines of: You have to try everything to prevent war crimes, but you are naive if you think you can win a war without getting your hands dirty. Especially if the opponents strategy is to use civilians as a human shield for better publicity.
In my opinion, the much more interesting question is what the security adviser would have had to say to the illegal settlements and if or how they threaten Israel's security.

Very dubious... It seems that you are, and rightfully so, not allowed to deny the Jewish Holocaust, but here we see the denial, in his very first sentences, of the very existence of a whole people - the Palestinians - taking that their rights are attached to the definition of their existence... Even though coins were printed with the name of the place on it as represented, even under colonisation, by the management of a specified people... Interesting and dubious logic, that it seemed holds validity only in a might is right to recognition scenario... But hey... It would also seem that aptitude is also engendered in alignment with goals and objectives.
So by such extended logic, all the formerly colonised states, around the world, it would seem, anywhere that has been colonised, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Southern China, British Malay, Burma, Singapore, Philippines, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Djibouti, Aden, even Mecca and Medina were said to have been under Ottoman steerage, do not and did not really exist, and ergo, the people of those nations have no derived rights under today's laws as the ephemera quality of a name, trumps all other factors that symbolised an unbroken attachment to a land... Interesting - I wonder how many courts of law would uphold this logic?
Well I guess, in a world where identity has become predominant and subjective, anything goes...
