Great tune . Dickie Betts says he wrote this watching his baby daughter crawl about the room . Was trying to capture the wonderment of a small child as they explored the world . What ever it was , he wrote a masterpiece
Glad I could pass that along . If I recall correctly this was the flip side of the bands hit 'Ramblin Man' . I found it on the jukebox where my wife and I were having lunch . We were expecting our first child and decided to name it Jessica if we had a girl . That was some fifty years and three sons ago . But the name was used seventeen years and three sons later . It's not every little girl has a song bearing her name . 😂
It was my turn to drive on a recent road trip I took with my family through the middle of Queensland here in Australia and I was on one of the many straight stretches of road when Jessica popped up on my playlist.I went from 100 kms an hour up to 160 and hadn't even noticed. It's just as well I had the road to myselfand just as lucky I didn't run into a stray policeman. What excuse could I use?The Allman Brothers and Jessica made me do it........actually could be a plausible excuse for going that speed.....maybe.
One of my favorite bands of all time definitely in the top 5 for classic rock. The Allman Brothers Band has brought me so much enjoyment over the years. I am blessed to have such a great band to listen to.
This is one of those videos where the whole package really takes you back in time... gritty image quality, questionable fashion choices, groovy vibes, et al. I'm glad performances like this have been captured and are available for those, like me, who have to experience performances of our favorite music vicariously, having been born a couple decades too late!
im sorry dickey was fucking great, but duane was one of a kind and irreplaceable.. they got a good guitarist after the fact but still imo duane was one of the best rock guitarist to ever live...
led sabbath TBH, I believe that the complemented each other. Watch the live At the Fillmore of One Way Out, it’s not a one horse race. Dickey Betts contributes equally
Betts plays this amazing music like a walk in the park. The whole band is so skilled and together, it's almost unbelievable. My favorite instrumental, no question about it.
Damn! Almost 5.5 MILLION views! Killer...This is arguably the best live version I've found on YT. Sound quality is great, and ABB's playing is tight...
Love! Love! Love!!!! Saw them in concert at the Forum (LA) waaaaay back in the 70.s & to this day - just one of the BEST coeetncerts,MUSIC, ever! My "favorite" songs tend to fall in other categories.... but, unbelievably, Allman Bros... they just sweep me off my feet!
Dickey Betts is one of the greatest Southern guitarist in history he carried the flag for the Allman Brothers rest in peace Duane Allman but Dickey Betts he carried the flag
back in the day, you had to get up and change records, what I really liked about the Allman Brothers was you could put on the album and let it play.......alot of artist you dont want to listen to whole album just a few songs....but you could party and play their whole albums
First - the Allman Brother are NOT typical. They are one of the finest bands to ever. Second, let's see, they basically created a genre all it's own, and, hummmm... Betts wrote this masterpiece. Anyway needless to say, they are just the best live... like no other. As for the structure of their "jams", EVERYONE stands out, and everyone is a part of the whole. Which in my opinion is exactly why they are and were so good.
This is the theme song for British Broadcasting Company's TOP GEAR show(NOT the stupid Top Gear, made with those absolute morons they chose to host the USA version... Those guys need an ass-kicking)! I wonder who chose it for the UK, and being a Southerner myself, I love that they did it, 20yrs ago! Classic Band and great music!
Dickey Betts one of the greatest guitar players in the world some will say Jimmy Page others Jimmy Hendrix but I can't see any of them playing the lead to Melissa.
I had not heard this song in quite some time until i saw Field of Dreams in the movie theater. Still think of that movie when i hear this song. Thanks for the live upload of this drop-top driving classic.
One of the happiest, joyful pieces of music I have every heard. It also reminds me of 1972, a turning point in my then young life. Never get tired of hearing it. Never saw this band live, but Greg much later on. What a gentleman he was! After the show he greeted fans by the side of the stage. I was with a woman who absolutely loved him. So I helped her to reach him. When he took her hand, he looked at me and seemed to understand everything. Best to Greg, Dickie and the survivors, RIP rest
I was at this concert, man! Gainesville Bandshell free show 82, when you could still drag a keg of beer onto the field and smoke some joints with yer friends without being harassed. Many great bands late 70s thru early 80s, including Frampton, Outlaws, SRV, PatTravers and many more at this location
I heard this song years ago in guitar hero 2 (where every other 12 yr old kid heard it)..... and I feel proud to get to know this song, if it wasn't for guitar hero, I would've never be into classic rock, so thank you guitar hero.
One of the very best live performances ever....loved the two lads near back of crowd one with blue shirt ,beard and sunglasses really enjoying a super band.
Boyfriend said in '82, "You have to listen to these guys--twin lead guitars and two sets of drums." Never stopped listening, but first time for this video on RUclips!
Musical Gods. Weed puffin', beer drinkin good ol' boys. When they pick up their instruments this is what you get.....greatness unbound. Pure southern rock fury ripping out at ya like a wildfire.
I remember in 1971 freshman at Edgewood High, Atco NJ Donna Scelso played this tune daily on the cafeteria's jukebox wow, What a crew-Donna, Debbie M., me-darker Parker they called me rofl, & Robert Noel. Won the division 3 track n field 100 & LJ after she played this tune---what memory!!!!
Rest in Peace, Dickey, 😢 thanks for the wonderful music and good memories.🎸🌷💔🙏
I get goosebumps every time I hear Betts break into that guitar solo. One of the best ever.
Yeah same here.. they the solo builds...incredible 🎸
@@vincentdaversa776 It's just such an amazing crescendo. Such a climax. I never get tired of this song.
Great tune . Dickie Betts says he wrote this watching his baby daughter crawl about the room . Was trying to capture the wonderment of a small child as they explored the world . What ever it was , he wrote a masterpiece
Never knew this! That's why it's such a happy, joyful song. Thank you for teaching me something today 😊

Dickie had so many great performances but this is his song!!
I'm an old man and looking back I have to say all the wonderful bands that I listen to The Allman Brothers are number one
I don't see how anyone could DISLIKE this song. Seriously, it's so great.

Thirty years have passed, to this day.... I have NEVER heard a more incredible lead guitar sir. Thank you for sharing it with us!
Mark Tassi Yes,Duane was already dead
not only lead guitar. all guitars. IMHO.
im sorry dickey was fucking great, but duane was one of a kind and irreplaceable.. they got a good guitarist after the fact but still imo duane was one of the best rock guitarist to ever live...

3:33 - Dickie’s solo intro comes in heroic.
R.I.P. Mr. Betts
This was at the University of Florida, Bandshell. Many great concerts there back in the day.
My Father played me this at age 3 and I figured out how to play it at age 10 I still play it today at a couple of gigs after all these many years
Greatest rock instrumental in rock 'n' roll history: nothing like it. I can remember where I was the first time I heard it. Man, these guys can play.
What an inspired performance - wow, Dicky Betts is just amazing!

Best Southern band Of All Time! And one of the USA’s best, too.
TopGear in da house bros!!!
Tonight Richard wears a hat, James wears another hat, and I wear a hat with things on it.

INTRAMONTABILE,INDIMENTICABILE,ETERNO!! In una parola LA MUSICA si di ieri ma di oggi è di sempre.
Folks holding up beers and pumping fists in the air, but not a single cell phone to be seen. Simpler times...
The best of times...
It's a sad sight seeing people watch a live performance through their phone rather than watching it RIGHT in front of them..
Amen
Tonight! I do a skid, Richard steals some tyres, and James gets kicked in the face
This is the theme song for British Broadcasting Company's TOP GEAR show(NOT the stupid Top Gear, made with those absolute morons they chose to host the USA version... Those guys need an ass-kicking)! Such a creative masterpiece!! The whole song is an amazing guitar solo!!!

This brings so many memories back.

Dickey Betts one of the greatest guitar players in the world some will say Jimmy Page others Jimmy Hendrix but I can't see any of them playing the lead to Melissa.

I race a man in a motorized wheelchair on foot,
Hammond builds a Saturn-5 Rocket,
And May attempts to speed-skate up a frozen river.
Papa Trippy!
This was at the University of Florida-Gainesville Band shell! I saw them when I was in school there.
These guys are an institution. More albums have been dedicated as a tribute to Duane Allman while using the Allman Brothers as a model.
Yes to Duane❤ I named my first son after him. I've wondered over the years where he would be now. RIP dear man ❤
This has to be one of the GREATEST Southern Rock jams ever made. I know that ti is one of my favorites.
Goddamn love this, the guitarist and the bass wow just wow, i cant forget that piano solo so sweet!! Hate my generation music but love this old rock!

One of the greatest traveling songs of all time.
Come back now and again to watch this. It gets better evertime. Dicky Betts is one of the best guitarists ever.
That's about as near to a perfect guitar solo as you'll ever hear. Unreal.
I could watch this video over and over again. Oh, wait, I HAVE! Dickey Betts is absolutely PHENOMENAL!
The Allman Brothers make me feel happy when I listen to them. Like and overpowering joy.
R.I.P Dickie, your guitar and the instruments of your brothers will always be in my heart. God smiled on the world the day you guys got together. IMHO

It just is the most joyful song ever written. No words necessary and one of my late grandpa's favourite songs.

Awesome, serious, brilliant, genius musical talent.
My two favourite pieces of music of all time are Peer Gynt - the Hall of the Mountain King - and Jessica by the Allman Brothers Band!
