- It's finally time to resume work on The Martian spacesuit costume build! In the two years since we last checked in on the project, Frank Ippolito has moved into a new shop and has been chipping away on 3D printing crucial parts to the costume. Adam spends the day at Frank's shop to survey the pieces and start work on the helmet!

Thanks for watching!
I think about this build every six months or so and come back to check. Cant wait for this to come around. Such an intricate suit and a serious feat, not sure if anything on this show has taken this long to complete.
It's been dead for years. I wouldn't be surprised if the parts have been thrown out.
Who else was super excited when they saw Frank? I definitely was. Awesome work by everyone on Frank's team. It's also interesting seeing Adam working on something in someone else's workshop.
It is awesome you are right!
Cheers!
Me too! Been a fan of "Cranky Frank" from way back on Face/Off. Great to see how his business has grown, but he still takes time to contribute to Tested! Working with him would be my dream job!
I never knew about the "Cranky Frank" moniker@@TrickyZ33😆
Who else was depressed as soon as Norm showed up? I definitely was.
I am so happy for Frank.
Seems like the business have reeeeaaaally taken off.
Absolutely! I'm so happy for him!
he also just seems happier imo! so nice
Cheers everyone! I do miss doing tested videos, but I LOVE having a successful business of my own too!
Indeed. Can't wait to see him being asked to do space suits for big production movies, instead of replicating the props. :D
cycoholic- spoiler alert .... that’s part of what I’ve been up to this past year.
It's coming up on another 3 years. I can't wait to see the next video.
....And that was the last time anyone ever heard of the Martian Spacesuit project...
This video makes me so happy I could cry. The Martian is my favorite movie of all time, not exaggerating, and Adam Savage is basically my engineering hero. It makes me so happy to see my hero so invested and excited by what excites me as well. I can't wait to see the final product.
Has there been an update on this yet , it’s been like 5 years now since this began ?
Frank sadly passed away
@@AutismusPrime69 I don’t think so , seeing how he was posting yesterday ?
omg I thought this was dead. Awesome work guys!
100% worth the wait . Looking forward to the next update immensely . Great job guys , everyone involved 👏👏👏
It's really starting to come to life from this point. I've been waiting forever to see this. Thanks for bringing it back guys. :D
OH MY GOD I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!!
Seriously!! Took way too fucking long
I got premium two years ago to watch the updates. Wasn't sure it would ever be done
I went premium because of this project and still being a premium member for 3 years they told me in this video hahaha
Awesome. Can’t wait to see the rest of this series. Please please please film the rest and share with us.
Brilliant, and love how excited they are for this build :) I could watch Adam & Frank making all day long and I'm learning so much!
Its great to see Frank really expanding his workshop. I remember the days in his older shop there were only a few areas for certain processes, now he really has all that he needs. Good on you!
Yay for the next video in this series! It's so cool to see this finally moving forward. And I really hope we don't have to wait years for the next one!! ;)
Even if its a rare sight to behold now, i love to see Frank back in the videos. Hope to see more great things from the both of you together on the future. Wish you both the best in whatever your up to nowadays.
I just love seeing these guys work! It's amazing how enthusiastic they are about what they do and how good they are at it - really cool! And seeing more of that Martian space suit is really wonderful! Can't wait to see more at some point :-D Thanks for sharing this!
This is THE BEST tested video I've seen in a long time. Good work!
"this is my happy place" -every maker while making. great video guys!
I just started printing my helmet for my Mandalorian Mercs kit and I have had some ghosting and other artifacts show in my prints which has made me nervous about how my helmet will turn out after filling and sanding, but seeing that Franks prints have the same issues and still turn out as well as they do gives me so much hope.
Frank has such an amazing shop. everything is great quality and is allowing for some really huge projects, super excited to see more work coming out of that shop.
I can't over emphasise how happy I am to have watch Frank's business take off, initially on Tested and then via Twitter. I really feel like I've had the privilege to watch a titan of the industry be born and follow them as they've exploded onto the scene. Give it a year or two, and Frank's props will be the ones everyone is trying copy, inspiring a whole new generation of makers and re-energising the existing one. I take my hat of you sir, it is extremely well deserved!
This documentary is well put together. It’s communicated clearly and succinctly.
Snapping all that support off looks highly satisfying.
Just got my Savage shirt and it is so soft! Love it and finally a Martian suit update! ❤️
Watching the three of you in a shop together makes me so happy!! Thanks for sharing!!
YAY!!!!!! It's FRANK!!!!!!! I wish he'd upload to his own channel, miss his videos. (wish I could work for him and learn from him)
Fun fact, all the cameras that were on those suits in the movie were sourced from the actual action camera market. There's 2 Sony Action Cameras on the sides of the helmet and a GoPro on the shoulder boom. No clue why you'd need 3 forward facing cameras but that's what they did.
i love the excitement that both Frank and Adam display with this project.
Dang. I wanna see more of Frank's projects. And I wanna see more of him (and team, of course) making those projects!
Stepped infill can save time and material. Also glad to see a larger shop having troubles with layer delam.
Love the update. It really doesn't feel like 3 years since I watched the video of you taking the measurements of the suite :P What a journey it's been
Frank Ippolito and Bill Doran could be long lost brothers
I always think the same thing
And BTW, the sewing girl could be the sister of actor Paul Dano ...
Bill has a twin, but it's not Frank. lol
I've always thought the same. There's actually a video out there of both of them working on something together for Tested, and the likeness was acknowledged.
I actually started to watch Bills videos thinking it was frank. Then I learned that they are in fact two separate people.
Great to see you again Frank!
Wow, it really has been three years! So glad to see an update on this!
Been waiting so long for an update, keep up the good work guys, don't keep us waiting so long
Frank!!! It is always good to see him on the channel.
That shop is a dream to me! I got excited watching this video and I wasn't even there!
YES!!! This build is SOOOOOOOO cool, been waiting for this one a long time!!! Can't wait for future update videos!!!
So cool to see Frank back on tested... I would love to get a tour trough his shop now he is in this massive space. OH yeah and I love the suit build tooo :D
Three years ago!! Now where did that go? It was worth the wait, looks awesome great people doing great things! 😍
Has it really been 3 years! Top work guys, its looking stunning already!
and 1 year later, only 2 more years before the next video, excite! hehe
OMG did you see what just happened at 16:58 !!!! For an OCD like Adam if someone just walked up to my work space and rearranged it for no reason I’d lose it - I’d love to have seen Adams reaction lol.
It's so nice to see Frank again!
That is so cool. That waste plastic can be recycled by the company that manufactures the raw extrusion. They regrind and add a percentage to a batch. You can work out a deal with them. Just keep it seperated by color and material. It saves them on cost and less landfill. win win.
From my understanding talking to a lot of filament companies at Mid-West Rep Rap Festival, East Coast Rep Rap Festival and Maker Faires, most don't produce recycled filament. Those that do it's more of a niche thing right now. Filamentive for example sources their plastic from "Material generated by households or by commercial, industrial and institutional facilities in their role as end-users of the product which can no longer be used for its intended purpose. This includes returns of material from the distribution chain."
I think I've heard of a few companies that accept waste filament for recycling but it's the exception to the rule. Let me know if you know of any specific companies that do offer it.
@@BallisticTech theres been some home filament recycling products, they arent very good right now though.
Frank is my favorite tested member, apart from Adam of course.
Awesome, loving the enthusiasm and explicit attention to detail its been a long time coming but can’t wait to see the final product and hopefully soon 🤟🏻😁
I don’t think I’ve seen frank so happy in a video. This is very very cool
This is stunning, when orange hits that helmet wow
I guess we will never see this build finished! Sorry no pressure just love watching all the spacesuit build videos!
HOLY SHIT!! What a Shop!!
This morning in the train, I was speaking about this project for the first time, in a long time, to a random stranger wearing a Rebel Pilot uniform. I had not seen or heard yet that this video was released. I like this coincidence.
soo great to see what frank has become after face off!!
Best Tested video in a loooong time. Frank is rad.
FINALLY!!! Totally worth the wait for such an insane build!
I freaked out at work when I saw this video was posted! Good to see Frank again
Frank is back... YEAH BABY! Great video.
I've been considering making one of these. Looks like a TON of work for one person though. Great job.
IT'S ALIIIIIIIIIIVE! That helmet print is absolutely beautiful.
Still waiting. Please keep updating this!
Oh my goodness I have literally waited YEARS for this! AHHHHH!!!
It's only been 1.4 years since the last update... in Martian years.
How many sols has that been?
This has been the most anticipated video on RUclips
Yay! Frank’s back!
Looks great! Looking forward to the 2021 update!
It is currently June of 2020, has this suit been completed? Are you guys going to make anymore videos on this suit?
At the end of the video Frank says "yeah it'll be another 3 year's for the next video." Lol! Well here we are at 2+ years! When's the next video?
@@tobliusnoblius4656 He hasn't been a part of Tested since at least early 2019.
WHY DIS I EVER LEAVE THIS CHANNEL I LOVE THIS
I immediately jumped to this video! YES
Frank's shop is incredible!
Adam, Norm and The Martian? Ugh. Perfect. 😍
Norm taking a dremel to a print that good... Oh lawd have mercy
I thought this project had been abandoned. So glad it’s back !
Can you do a overview of all the space suits you have Adam so we can compare the evolution between them?
May be a long episode as I'm sure we will never get enough of space suits insights and story's from you.
Thank you!!! So excited to see the progress.
So i was driving trough germany 5 minutes ago and I litteraly stopped and swiyched seats with my friend so I can watch this!!!
Asking again one year from now. Where is the suit?!
Finally an update on the suit!
That shop is amazing.
Badass! Nice beardage gents 👍 Adam's side shag is looking very distinguished 😎
Totally been waiting for this. Thank you!
Finally updated
Great to see the gang back together.
Martian Update!!!
A perfect notification to receive when waking up on a Monday morning.
Just another 3 more years, Adam. Can't wait! BFR probably will have actually crash landed on Mars by then
Man oh man am I jealous of Adam I want one of these suits so badly!!!
Coming up on those 3 years guys ;)
FINALLY !!!!! :-) Take your time, just another update in less than 3 years this time .
Such a cool space suite they developed for The Martian.
I WAS LITERALLY LOOKING FOR THIS FOR THE LONGEST TIME
This is so Awesome......Mechanix Wear should make those glove....I would love to have a set of those that have pads on them for riding motorcycles as they look awesome.
see you in 2021
lol
that sends a shiver down my spine that in 3 years its going to be 2021, im sure it was 2012 yesterday, scary like the fact that we are as close to 2006 as we are to 2030
Hi im in 2021 now
sadly true...
Here's to three more years!
3 years, at last it's here. Cup of tea a custard cream and watch.
It was more interesting when the Tested hosts made their own replicas. Watching Simone & Adam managing large teams is just like a corporate day job. He could now just as easily have bought the original suit from ebay as hire a company to build it.
Adams definitely going to want his cooling vest under this one. Have appropriate measures been taken?
Didn't seem like there is enough room in the suit for the vest I'm sure they can hide the backpack in the backpack piece . Also pretty sure this video was shot before he had the cooling vest.
Wow! I didn't think that we'd ever see this again...
There's a saying that "if you love your work, you don't feel like working at all" man, I'm jealous of these guys....
Frank and Adam are my heroes and I'm a grown man with a career haha.
love when Adam and Frank collaborate
Wow that truck bed technique is freaking amazing! I was wondering how people could get flexible armor pieces with out casing them in urethane rubber.
