Summer of 22' I got 2 sunset rides on Lightning rod. Both were after around 2 hours of closure on 2 seperate days. The first the sun was dead in front of the tracks and the second the sun was shrouded by a huge anvil cloud. I wanted to cry as the sun rays beamed through the side of the cloud. Personally my favriote coaster so far
L-Rod is heavily influenced by the iconic Schwartzkopf masterpiece (and the great master’s favourite out of all of his creations) Lisebergbanan, which is a top 3 all time steel coaster imo
I'm a french coasterfan i rode this one last year for a coaster trip in USA, and i miss this one so much, we rode 11 times in the day 🤪the whole park is fantastic. I wish we'll get some good park like USA in France one day ...
I loved roller coasters when I was younger. I am at the stage where Im not that old but Im that young LOL! Tennesee looks beautiful. Nevere been to that part of the country.
@@bmini372 yeah, I mean I love launches but they can be very annoying if they aren’t steel lsms. My home park great america has maxx force… which I’ve ridden once… when I’ve been over six times since it opened. The line is either insane or the ride is broken down, which is like 50% of the time
What camera did you use and how were you able to film on the ride? I’m going to Dollywood next week and would love to film on the roller coaster. Do I need to call before I arrive at the park? Or can I ask at guest services?

When I went to Dollywood back in May, I wanted to ride the Lightning Rod roller coaster, before I could get on the ride they told me NO cameras are allowed on ANY of the rides in Dollywood. Which was a big bummer because I had planned on filming the rides for my family. However, you can still film all around the park, inside the little gift shops and on the Dollywood Express. Some of the rides I road were: Sky Rider, The Mad Mockingbird, Great Tree Swing, Lemon Twist, and The Scrambler. I used my phone to film on those rides and none of the employees said anything. In my experience, any ride that does not go upside down or really fast you should be able to film on. All and all, I had a great time. The employees were very nice and the food was delicious (I recommend the cinnamon bread located at the Grist Mill). I also recommend going on a weekday if possible. The lines were very short and the park was not very crowded (we went on Thursday). Another tip is buying a refillable Dollywood cup! I went with my family (7 people) and the amount of times we refilled our cups was crazy! It was way cheaper to buy two refillable cups than multiple bottles of drinks for all seven of us. I hope this helps and that you have fun if you decide to go to Dollywood. :)
It’s not reliable, it seems to break down daily and the park continues to try different methods to improve reliability so maybe it will get ironed out eventually
I rode wild eagle but lightning rod is super intense for me, mainly cause I’m scared of it cause I got my arm stuck between the bar and the person next to me’s bar, I had a large cut and probably would have had to gotten an amputation if I didn’t get it out in time.
It’s a heartbreaker for sure but I have been fortunate to ride it at every visit I have had to Dollywood and I have heard many stories of people who have never gotten to ride it so I count my blessings
It's unfortunate how much they have nerfed this coaster from It's original glory. It's like cutting the balls off of a wild animal. I guess they needed it to be more "friendly " for the Dollywood guests.

That looks great but too short! I like how the coasters at this park capitalize on the terrain of their surroundings.

Yep, amputation for sure. It’s happened a few times. Luckily Dollywood have surgeons on site
