He lost 99% of us when he used that turbine. What home DIY guy is going to spend $3k for it? Costs more than the car is worth. Confused why he made this big Uturn...
Tamco 9500 is the most amazing clear ever! Super fast dry/cure, levels nice, glossy, and super durable. Allows kustom painterZ like myself to work much more efficient too. Glad u tried CSI!!! Stuff is amazing too! It’s a win win with the Tamco/CSI combo. ThankZ for all the great content and information! AlwayZ look forward to new Paint Society vidZ!
Love the fact that you are panel painting the car in your garage with a turbine like someone doing a resto might do and specifying all the details and showing what can happen. Great job Brian!
So, Apollo or the Q5? Since you have shot both on same car in the end, which did you like better? It's so hard to find any videos of people shooting cars with the Q5. Seriously, I have spent hours and I believe yours is just about the only one on all of RUclips. (There is 1 guy shooting a truck with a q4 in his back yard) The Q5 videos are all painting woodworking. I see lots of people using the Apollo system. Why is this? is the Apollo just a better system? The Apollo seems to run almost double the price as the Q5 and and if you dont mind the extra noise, more than double the price of the Mini might 5. As a beginner, and doing this at home I just want to make sure I getting the correct system. This may be the only car I ever paint with the unit. Then I'll use it for other jobs around the house or sell it. I'm doing this because the cheapest paint job I've been quoted in Chattanooga TN for my 85 Mercedes wagon for base/clear was 11K. (2 places wanted over 15k) For that kind of money I can afford to try myself and do it over several times if I f it up. I dont have a large compressor. I dont have room for one. so one of these systems seems to be the way to go, plus, my garage is attached to my house and the lack of over spray seems like it would mean less paint smell in the house. I may be wrong there. I do plan on doing plastic sheeting on wall and roof of garage to try and seal it off from house.
Finally a real home painter’s guide. It’s been a while for me so this was nice to see a bunch of new products I haven’t heard of before. I’m restoring a black vehicle as well!
Dude you’re a freaking badass! Thanks for taking the time and sharing your time and wisdom. I’ve heard a lot of people in this industry say “ im not teaching anyone” painters and body techs and you’re over here displaying it for the whole worrld to see. I’m a body tech looking to get into painting and your videos are super helpful. Thank you, and keep up the great work.
This channel has been a fantastic resource, I only wish I had this knowledge a few years ago. Have a few projects lined up over summer with Brian as my inspiration! Great job as usual buddy 👍
I'm really enjoying this series. I started getting ready to paint my car when I started watching your channel last year. As soon as its warm enough to work in the garage the trim's off and I'm sanding. At some point in this series can you go in-depth on how to plan and paint a car panel-by-panel, like you did this car. What are the risks and mitigations to get a nice product. I have a narrow one car Garage just like the one your in without any window's or path for fresh air. Turbine sprayers seems the way to go, and I don't mind masking multiple times to be able to work on small areas where I have less risk of being overwhelmed by trying to cover the whole car at once and can tackle mistakes when they are small and in one spot. A comparison plus/delta of the turbine systems would be nice too. Thanks for the great information on the channel. Hoping in the series you can discuss if you are painting at once - what parts areas should you do together. I'm thinking I'll pull my hatch hood doors front fenders and bumpers. Do the jams and the body? Then paint parts and put them back on as I go? However if I don't need to pull fenders and bumpers off (no color change and very good factory gaps) is it worth leaving it alone and painting panel-by-panel on the car? (Its an LX Hatch Mustang) Hope to see some of those answers in the series. Thanks again.
Thank you for these videos Brian!! I had a basic understanding of how to paint a car but with your videos I'm learning so much more, and just in time too since my project is ready for paint. Now it's going to look even better!!
Menzerna fg400- best polish i have ever used especially on black. No swirl marks ever. Tried alot of products it's great and breaks down and polishes all in one step.
Am loving this type of series paint jobs a old car with good body panels learned alot now I wanna tackle on my 98 acura integra with clean body panels with no Clear coat left
Wow that turbine really cuts the overspray down. Just shot my first car doorjambs with my 60 gallon in my garage 3 coats base,2 clear. What a foggy mess 3m respirator cartridge clogged on 2nd pass of clear. Had to pull my helper from the room and use his mask to finish. Just glad he was there, going to keep a stock of filters from now on. Great job, and nice buffing compound!
Have to lose that tinted window, that would drive me crazy, Grate job Brian, I have a 2000 Mustang Convertible as my retirement project and it has the 3 stage Laser Red and its fading, (Orange) And for a Diy-er and home garage job, and to buy all the equipment would be cheaper and more fun for me then waiting for some else to do it..... $$$$$$ PS, your giving me the Confidence... Keep it coming
Awesome job Brian. Even though my DIY project is "complete" (is a project ever complete?? lol), I still enjoy watching all of your videos. I actually had a great time painting my project, this is a skill set I want to keep learning about and how to improve it, especially on the DIY and at home level. Great information as always!
For an upcoming panel, would you consider adding segment on what you're doing with the gun and left over paint between coats? are you cleaning it? storing it a certain way? I haven't started spray painting yet and I'm trying to sort out various little details. Thx. I really like your teaching style.
Great job bro. I almost did the turbine system, but I took your recommendation and did the Astro gun (love it). I recall one video that you or someone else put the wrapping film on the walls to catch debris, since it has a static charge. And the tip on the super buflex sanding pads is the bomb. Best sand paper ever. I did some headlights with 600 grit, then 2000, came out like glass. Cut my time in half. They really cut like lower grit, but don't leave scratches. Thanks again for all your help.
Done mine today. -2 outside. Got the place hot. Perfect prep. The place was cleaned yesterday. Floors wet down before I started. But its full of dust. Hoping it flats out
You answered my most pressing question early in this video. That of overspray. You have pictures on a wall and unprotected nicely painted walls and you had no concern that you might mess them up. Both products you used, paint and clear, obviously air dry quickly. I need to hvlp spray a small project in a large garage, and id rather not have everything in there be Red when im done !
Maybe it's a stupid question, but do you empty out the gun in-between coats and do you clean the gun or do you just let the paint sit in the gun ? Btw I love your videos! Can't wait for the weather to be better so I can start painting
Great one Brian! So 2 questions: could you have used spray cans and if so, how to avoid tiger stripes? Does the odor of clear/paint get into your house?
Awesome video !! Thanks for sharing your knowledge ! We appreciate the things that you do ! Been watching your videos for quite sometime now & learned so much from you & 2 other utube guys who knows their stuff. I'm a mechanic for over 20yrs now and did pdr & interior repairs & love paintings on the side as a hobby. Bought my devilbiss gun back around 15yrs ago & have other spray guns also for training purposes. Bought a junkyard hood & a door to practice on pdr then do the repairs and repaint over & over till I got better. Will buy the iwata balaria 1.3 for my dedicated clear coat only to do my next project. Need advice step by step on my next project DIY 1998 honda crv repaint & specially my 93 acura nsx . Clear coats worn out , front & back bumper couple of paint chipping . Love to hear from you. Tnx God bless & be safe !!
Another great video Brian! Can you maybe dig in a little more on the compressor vs turbine argument? You started in on that and I have been thinking the same thing lately. I'm wondering what would be the most versatile as well if you wanted to say maybe paint woodworking projects as well as cars? (Hey I got more than one hobby oK?) ;)
Such a great video. So detailed. The camera work lighting, sound ,delivery all on point brother! I truly haven't seen anyone do it better. Do you have a new cameraman or woman on your team?
Thanks! I do all my recording but my neighbor stopped by on this one. He is 13 and wants to learn so he got to hold the camera! He did a great job. Thanks for the champ words !
Wow, The kid did a great job! Better put him on the team full time! Lol I know what kinda work it takes to make a video. Is this grind worth it to get to 100k?
so here is the question of the day, what size tip do you recommend from primer to base coat to clear coat , and metal flakes, if i was to get one nozzle and tip, is that even option one could do it all, or do i have to get 2 different sizes of tips and needles etc.....
Hi Brian please can you say which turbine system was better Fuji or Apollo. Are you able to make this comment publicly ? I understand if this is not possible. I want to buy the best one for automotive. Thanks David
Have a question on my 2004 Acura TSX. I have along windshield at the top, i have rust and would hope you put a video on how to repair rust. You have given me inspiration to paint my car completely. Please i hope you can provide an answer. THANK YOU.
Great 👍 job Brian glass finish keep bringing those lovely 😊 videos on that car 🚗 every little information ℹ️ will coming handy lol 😂 much love and respect ✊ from kimo 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍✊✊✊✊✊✊🙏🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏👏💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Hey Brian, I have a '98 Civic coupe that has the clear coat peeling around the antenna. The paint looks good, so can I just sand down the clear coat with some 6 or 800 grit sandpaper and fade it out then do a spot repair of 2K clear coat without additional paint? BTW, I painted my nephew's Scion TC bumper with 2 cans of paint I had mixed at a paint shop and with your advise of using the foam window cleaner to prevent fish eyes, it came out perfect. Love the channel and I've learned a lot from your tips and videos.
Great video .... i like that there is not much over spray is there a spray gun with aircompresor set up that would perform with similar over spray? Would you consider waterborne paint for the garage or solvent would be better?
All your vids are very informative. Great job. Question. Is it advisable to piece paint as you are doing to the Honda a metallic color? And what do you use to blow the garage out from over spray? Thanks
maaan I am so glad I found your channel. you're giving me the inspiration and hope that I need to do some projects this spring! thanks for your content I really enjoy it!
This series is so useful and what 80% of watchers are actually doing to their own cars. More please!

You're like the Bob Ross of painting cars. Very enjoyable to watch.
...I enjoy how you admit that there are problems but you show the possible remedies....
Brian, with every video you show I learn a lot. Thanks.
I bought a Fuji Q5 Platinum last October and plan to DIY spray my project car this spring. This series is invaluable! Thank you!
Finally a real home painter’s guide. It’s been a while for me so this was nice to see a bunch of new products I haven’t heard of before. I’m restoring a black vehicle as well!
Thank you for showing an example of "pinching"!
You've enthused me to keep attacking my own project - THANK YOU! - old git, UK

I was just recommended that CSI compound. It's awesome! Spreads easy, gets to work, and cleans off great.

Great job bro. I almost did the turbine system, but I took your recommendation and did the Astro gun (love it). Apollo or Fuji ? Turbine sys witch did the better job ?

Do you use the polisher at the shop too or just in your garage? And very nice job as usual. 👏
hey thanks for your videos man!! quick wuestion can u use heaters from walmart to "cook" the different parts?
Excellant!
Can a whole car be done with this maxi miser 2000? Base and clear. Also can you do a video on the set up of this machine and proper use?
