  • Sublimation has opened up a new craft medium for me, and I found a game-changer. Lamination film opens up my new world even bigger. One of the downfalls to sublimation is the need to have sublimation blanks on hand. Now, I have found some great supplies, but lamination film allows me to create my sublimation blanks. I want to share with you how I use lamination film on MDF wood and create beautiful things!

    Thanks for the tutorial. I purchased the laminating 1.5 film, wasn’t sure what temperature to use. I used a Cricut heat press @ 400 for 15 seconds & it completely melted the film off my canvas.

      I used my heat press at 400 degrees for 10 seconds. I made sure to cover the laminatation paper with parchment paper or butcher paper. Then I applied the design that was printed on my sublimation paper. Here is my blog post that might also help: funstuffcrafts.com/2021/02/18/lamination-film-is-a-sublimation-game-changer/

      I had the same problem (only difference is I have a clam shell heat press). When I finally got it to be somewhat decent looking with minimal melting - I pressed my sub image and it was very splotchy, it appeared the film just melted away and the ink didn't transfer in those spots. I've had much better luck with the 3mil thickness that come as pouches. I'm going to try to find that in a roll and try to figure out what i can do with the $40 of laminate that I apparently don't know how to use haha.

    I’ve heard a lot of people say that because it’s not a true sublimation item that the image will over sometime (some have said a year) the image bleeds or fades or looks bad. Is there something you’ve done that was done a while ago with this method that still looks good? I’m new and I am thinking of doing this but I know I will feel bad if I charge and it’s true what others have said. This came out beautiful and will be doing my sons name to start. Thank you for this super easy to follow video 🙂

      I haven’t had any issues but mine are no more than 6 months old. I would think if you put a coat of sealer on it, it would help any chance of fading.

      I have my color option set to my ink profile. I use Cosmo Ink. They provide a download for their .ICC profile. The media type I use is Bright White Paper. I hope this answered your question.

      Yes, you do not need to paint it. The colors will just not be as bright.

      You can use the A-Sub paper on shirts but make sure the shirt is 100% polyester and a light color is always the best. You also need sublimation in. Here is a link to a tutorial I did for shirts funstuffcrafts.com/2021/06/11/sublimation-on-t-shirts-step-by-step-tutorial/

    I can’t seem to get the lamination to stick to my wood. It just peels right off. Doesn’t matter if I do it 400 for 10 seconds or 400 for 90 seconds. It will just peel right off. Any ideas?

    • @FunstuffcraftsLisaWelander
      @FunstuffcraftsLisaWelander  2 года назад

      Make sure you have the right side facing down one the wood. There should be a matte finish side and a shiny side to the laminate. Here is a paragraph from my blog post. Cut a piece of lamination paper larger than your piece of wood. There is a glossy side to the lamination film and a matte side. Place a piece of blow out paper on the heat press, then lay your piece of wood white side up. Lay the lamination paper matte side down on the piece of wood and cover with another piece of parchment paper. Press at 400 degrees for 10 seconds. Here is the link to the post. funstuffcrafts.com/2021/02/18/lamination-film-is-a-sublimation-game-changer/

    • @FunstuffcraftsLisaWelander
      @FunstuffcraftsLisaWelander  3 года назад

      I am not sure what you are asking. The lamination film is melted onto the wood which allows the sublimation ink to adhere onto the wood. To remove the transfer you would need to sand the wood.
