You talk about your sisters farm a lot and how you source a lot of your meats and such from her. Would you ever consider making a video touring her farm and interviewing her about raising animals etc. ? P.S. my mouth is watering looking at that cheesy bread!!!
Also, some advice about how to source meats in different areas of the country would be nice too. Unfortunately, we have had to downsize to an apartment and no longer have room for a freezer so limited on space.
@Lisa Parker we just moved to an apartment for a while, too, but a tiny chest freezers will be in one of our closets :) which we are planning to do soon. I also have a tiny spot in the kitchen that a tiny one will fit so I may get two.
Yes! I use lard and/or butter for literally everything, I literally weigh the least I’ve ever weighed without being on a “diet”, and feel the best I’ve ever felt. Amazing!
I can remember my Grandmother making pies and always using lard in her pie crust, they were so delicious and flaky. PS: I’m 70 so that was a long time ago! 😊
You probably already do this, but I'm in love with this trick I just found - parboiling potatoes before frying. AMAZING! Crunchy crispy on the outside and fluffy soft on the inside
Can you post your recipe/directions for your pot roast on your blog? I love your roast but don’t make it often enough to make without watching your video before each time. Your recipes on your blog are easier to find that searching for videos. Thank you for ALL you do! Such an inspiration!!
Everything looks so delicious! A little tip for you..if you will flour the roast before you brown it, it will make its own gravy as it cooks in its juices throughout the day. :)
Yes, you cook the food that I grew up eating and it is Wonderful. It's the way my parents ate. Delicious flavorful food. None of this tasteless zero calorie food that some people call healthy. And by the way, I am not the least bit overweight either. I use butter, lard, whole milk and cream as well. This life is meant to enjoy. Why not eat the foods we love. I mean, you make your own cheese, bread, yogurt, and you ferment food. It seems that everything you use is organic. I think your family is lucky to get to enjoy all the amazing things you cook. Well done you.
Great video! Saw someone else's comment about inviting your sister to a podcast because she is a farmer and butcher, so raises organic meat to sell; sounds like a really cool thing to check out, would help support her business, too, and help her have a bigger market? Pretty cool idea
Ok recipe idea , use the sourdough starter and leftover buttermilk salad dressing to make....biscuits? Something else? I have a lot of buttermilk dressing to use up!
Making pulled pork sandwiches tomorrow! Don’t have a healthy bbq sauce but I’m picking my battles 😂 at least I’m making some SD rolls for the buns! So excited!!!
I was raised that you stay away from “manufactured foods” so being raised on a farm we utilized the whole animal. Lard, tallow, butter…these were healthy fats. None of my family had heart issues from eating this way. I am 100% with you on “real” fats 😊
I loved seeing your daughter in the kitchen cooking with you. Just a caution for you-I noticed her leaning up to get spices above the stove. I am a burn nurse and we see so many burns from women reaching up to get things and catching their clothes on fire. I don’t want your family getting hurt
My head scarf 🧣 caught on fire when I was making chapatis as an 11 year old girl it was at the back of my derrière and I didn’t even notice it. It was my younger brother who saw it then I panicked 🙀 luckily only my clothes were damaged not me. Could have been so much worse. I love my brother. In the kitchen tie hair up also so it too doesn’t catch fire 🔥 and roll sleeves up. Her daughters are a credit to her. Beautiful family.
So that chicken schnitzel ( the breaded one ) is actually pretty good I make it like every month at least 2 times. but I do it in the oven, brushing them with my olive oil, Sweet Paprika little cumin and dry oregano and just baking them in a cookie sheet 12 - 15 minutes turning them around and 10 minutes later they are done. It is delicious no matter how you cook them. 😊
The fried chicken cutlets freeze beautifully !!! They make an easy chicken Parm or chicken sandwich for the future. I try to make extra whenever I fry chicken like this because it is such a long and messy process!
Lisa, as you where talking about pork: two things. A pork loin cooked in your sauerkraut in crock pot or dutch oven low and slow, is to die for delish. The pork can be shredded when done. It is wonderful with applesauce. I like a berry applesauce even more. Mashed potato on the side. The pork must be cooked in the sauerkraut for this meal.
Both my mother and grandmother would use proper lard when both my dad and grandfather would butcher a pig. They would use the lard frying chicken, making pastry, and making biscuits. My mom would also use a little when cooking green vegetables, especially string beans. So good! As usual Lisa, your recipes looked delicious! Wholeheartedly agree, garlic butter is soooo good!
Liver is truly delish if u soak in milk in fridge overnight n rinse them pat dry Like super good. I have to portion it out or I would make myself ill from too much VitD or A prob!
Good morning beautiful. Wow you simply amaze me with everything you create. That soup looks so good and definitely adding the sourdough pull apart bread to my to do list. You make sourdough stuff seems so easy. I'm still in the learning phase. Wish there was smell..a..vision button. Mmmmmmm I'm salivating. Thanks for sharing this with us beautiful.
If you wrapped your ribs in foil and added a couple ice cubes, it would fall off the bone. You can brown it in YNt oven too before or after if you like it browned.
Your meals make me so hungry. I want some! I want a plateful ! Have you ever thought about marketing your foods in food stores ? Your breads, soups look great.
The fried chicken dinner looks delicious! my daughter would want to eat that too :) I've been making more and more soups as well. My daughter simply love soup and it's so easy with my slow cooker. I recently saw a pulled pork soup recipe somewhere. We usually eat pulled pork or chicken with sandwiches, but will try it with potatoes as well sometime. Better option for winter then bread which I find more of a summer meal somehow.
For the ribs, if you slow boil your ribs first ( we do ours in pepsi or 7-up) but you can just use water. And once they are tender then we put them on the sheet pan in the oven.
You can slow bake potatoes rubbed in oil & kosher salt, stuff them with butter, shredded BBQ pulled pork, cheese, jalapeño's, sour cream, etc....makes a delish easy meal!
Many years ago I learned that lard wasn’t as bad as was assumed. But now, for several years I’ve been vegan for many reasons including how it breaks my heart to see the explodes and slaughter of any animal. So lard is not an option. I try to cook with as little oil as possible when I can because no matter how you look at it; oils and lard aren’t getting a halo 😇 as the healthiest ingredient added to food. So all those different fats being added to foods after a while is why the United States has a huge problem with obesity and overweight issues which lead to other health problems. My daughter also loves cooking and baking from scratch, but with organic vegan and natural foods. But no matter our view on cooking, It is great that the next generation is learning about healthy eating and cooking from scratch. 😃👍 Thanks for sharing.
In Hungary we fry the meat similar, when I really want to give it a good taste, I put the meat into garlicky milk for a couple if hours in the fridge, season it with salt and just put it first in flour, after eggs and after breadcrumbs. Its delicius.
You can also use a pork loin roast to make a tomato ragu with carrots, onions, celery, herbs, and some tomatoes and red wine, bake it low and slow in a dutch oven then serve with pasta and it is DELICIOUS!
My doctor actually recommended lard over many modern seed oils. Her words were “the dose makes the poison” but we are learning that over consumption of fried food are not good for many people; but the overuse of seed oils is becoming a concern. Between frying, dressings, condiments and baked goods the ‘old ways’ are starting to give us some insight into health, movement and modern agriculture”.
I love watching you! You are such an inspiration, thank you! Have you tried starter in your soups and gravy? I recently used some in my creamy potato soup and loved the flavor it gave. My family loved it more than the regular flour and butter roux.
It's funny how you call it chicken fried chicken. We just call it crumbed chicken or chicken schnitzel. Been around for as long as l can remember it's nothing new, lm surprised you've never had it.
Trying to diet and you are NOT helping!!!That chicken and gravy Omygoodness!! Great job ladies. I love seeing them in the kitchen with you. Great job momma.
Been making the pull apart bread for about ten years now..pouring that butter on top works perfectly. Bacon and green onions send it to another dimension 🤤 I need to try it with sourdough!
I don't know why people can't understand that natural is always healthier. Things God made were meant to nourish or bodies. Everything looks fantastic!
Yummy supper. I wanted to let you know that my sourdough starter has finally taken off. I made waffles this morning with the discard. Thank you for all of your ideas…my house was not warm enough for the starter at first.
Ok Lisa this just makes me want to go cook everything that you just made! How delicious and nourishing! I have a son who has a dairy allergy so sadly he misses out on butter but everything looks so so delicious. I might have to stop at the store later and get the ingredients
Girl I am a new subscriber recommended by clutterbug I just love your channel my mouth is so watering right now I also love to cook with lard I gave rendered my own leaf lard

Yessssssssss
@@lisaparker5836 a smaller sized chest freezer will work. Just meld it into your decore by being creative to "hide" it.
@Lisa Parker we just moved to an apartment for a while, too, but a tiny chest freezers will be in one of our closets :) which we are planning to do soon. I also have a tiny spot in the kitchen that a tiny one will fit so I may get two.
If am not mistaken, her sister has her own RUclips channel.

Curious about this. Does grass fed matter when it’s lard?
Such a credit to you to raise children who not only want to eat real food, but even want to help MAKE it… good job 👏

You can also keep that pot roast on the stove all day on low, rather than in the oven. Either way.
Ribs are one of my kids favourite pork cuts! And yep, lard all the way :)
Be careful out there in the weather you are facing . Stay safe

Carrots, sweet potatoes red onions. Sauté on a pan with avocado oil, rosemary and little mapple syrup!! Salt, pepper! Delicious!
Sounds good!
110% agree with you about lard Lisa ! Love animal fats ,no bad seed oils in my house!
Very well said about the lard. Seed oils/vegetable oils are so toxic and not many people realise. Loving your channel!
Thanks so much! 😊
100%

Ribs are actually really good on the instant pot and then finish under the broiler with sauce.
Fab yummy southern comfort food! Shout out to your precious, talented mini me.

Love all of these meals! Yes, they really are comfort foods in the winter months!
Chicken fried chicken is probably my favorite meal. Haven’t had that creamy chicken soup though, I’ll have to try it.
You outdid yourself with this one! Every single meal looked amazing, and the photographs were beautifully done!

My mom made “a big dinner” on Sundays for our very large family AND any family that stops in to visit.
I love your sink I like old fashion items! Plus your video so down to earth.
Thanks for watching!

That actually is gravy. Looks lovely
Lard is excellent! Especially when it’s home made!
love the idea of adding yolks to the mac n cheese. always looking for that protein boost!
I make my roast gravy this way but we pinch up bread and pour it over that. It would be delicious over your sourdough bread.
These all look sooo delicious Lisa. And kudos to Johanna 👏🏻👍🏻😊. 🧄🥔🥩🥘
