Lisa if you have never marinated chicken in buttermilk, you are missing out! Depending on how much chicken, pour buttermilk over it to cover. Add salt, pepper and hot sauce until the buttermilk is very pink. I promise you the chicken will NOT be hot at all. Now... we live in Louisiana and are known for very seasoned, spicy food but this is not hot. Let the chicken marinate in the refrigerator for several hours. Next season flour and dredge the chicken. Fry like normal. I also do this with pork chops. THE BEST!!!!!

every video of yours ive seen i see people mention that they love how you show the little messes of life, and i have to say, it's something i enjoy too. your channel feels the most real of any homemaker content creators i've seen. many are seemingly trying to portray this perfect aesthetically pleasing home and persona, and while they say things like 'we're not perfect' it feels like they try so hard to show otherwise. i like that you don't have a 'youtuber voice' and you can just tell by the mannerisms in which you speak that you're talking to us like you would talk to anyone in person. you don't cut the bits where you spill a little flour, and you're not afraid to use your fingers in place of like a rubber spatula or something to get the last bits out of the measuring cup. not trying to be rude to others but i truly do get tired of seeing all these perfectly presented women, in their 'farm style' dresses with their perfect hair, nails, and makeup, speaking in this cheery and overly peppy voice as they do things like mopping the floor or washing the dishes.
for me, in our family (meaning my husbands as well), we're like the generation left out of all the 'self sufficient' teachings. my grandma raised her own animals and canned food, hubby's family also came from dairy farms, but for whatever reason, both of our parents stepped away and never tried to learn and they were not things taught to us in our home. i want to get back to what's real and what makes a real difference in my home. i can look as pretty as i want but my vanity isn't going to make our house feel like home. we've done our best to try and teach ourselves better so that our kids can go the next step and surpass even us.... sorry this comment was stemming off of the part of the video where you're making blueberry bagels, i like that you're not afraid to say that you think you can do better and then have that 'roll up your sleeves' attitude to keep at it until you're satisfied with it. same with like the protein bars. i think a lot of content creators show us only the final result and don't really allow us on the journey through the trials and error, so idk, it's very human and very refreshing. sorry to write a novel, i'll finish the video now. god bless you and your family.

Yes, I don’t like when they look at their screen to read the questions and try to answer them. The thing is we don’t see the questions she’s reading, at least not while she or he are trying to cook so most of the time, we have no idea what question was asked. It’s something they can do on their own time if they wish to, but not while cooking imo. I like the way you do it Lisa. You cook, and you talk and sometimes you re-edit on top of when you cooked which is fine cuz in the end, you tell us all that is important in that particular episode of what you’re cooking. Good job, all the time.

My favorite thing about you, is that you will be making a dish and then you'll hear, "I'm out of _____ so I'm just going to us______." It helps give your fans a way to see what can be used in place of something you're out of. You don't have everything you do PERFECT. You are down to Earth and let people know that your pantry isn't perfect. Thank you for that!

Highly recommend taking the time to roll the protein bars into balls for bites. When my husband was training very seriously he needed tons of energy, but found the bars I made would sometimes be too sticky and sometimes too dry, despite me weighing the ingredients. Forming them into balls fixed that immediately. I used: 1c peanut butter, 0.5c honey, 1.75c oats, and 4 scoops of whey protein powder (not the best, but we used SO MUCH of it). I found them great for breastfeeding too!

HEY LISA, if you need to keep your lettuce for a long time, you can layer moist towels/paper towels with lettuce leaves, about 3 layers each, then roll them up and keep them in a bag...for up to 3 MONTHS! I have a video about storing lettuce and just finished another video about it. You may not need to keep it that long but it works!

In food processor: 1 cucumber, 1 carrot, 1 tomato, 1 small onion. Blend press all liquid out. When dry add 1 cup of mayo and 8 ounces of cream cheese. Blend. We love on pumpernickel. Needs a sturdy bread, so bagels would work.

This is an interesting hands-off way to do cream cheese that I’ve had a lot of success with from Mary’s Nest RUclips channel. You strain the yogurt for 24 hours in the fridge then leave it in a jar for 7 days in your fridge and that’s it! Tastes just like store bought cream cheese, it’s awesome.

I discovered I can make the yogurt and put it in the car to culture on warm days. The vehicle gets warm from the sun (ours is not in a garage) and holds the perfect temperature for making thick and creamy yogurt! I also use the car on warm days to rise my sourdough super quickly. 😂 This sounds weird to do, but it keeps the house cooler during the warmer months since I don't have to create a warm spot for the yogurt and sourdough 😊.
For the yogurt I read somewhere you can only really successfully use the yogurt for 3 or 4 generations before you need to swap for new cultures. It gets thin I've noticed if I go more than that.

Bagels have 2 rises, then rolled into ropes, then made into a ring, and ends are pinched together. They then are set to rise (3rd time). Then they are boiled and removed, and toppings are added, such as dried onion, garlic, caraway, poppy seeds, etc. Then they are baked.
Your method is more of a western bread bagel, not an Eastern European bagel. Good for sandwiches, but they lack the chew that an Eastern European bagel has. Thank you for the lovely video. It was well done and informative.

Hey! Maybe you can dehydrate the blueberries in the oven a bit. 250° for 1 hour to an 1hr 20 minutes? Claire saffitz did that in a recipe for her strawberry scones so that she can have a soft strawberry but the liquid and raw strawberry wouldn't interfere with the scone. Thanks for all that you teach!

Anyways I thought when you mentioned making a savory sandwich with those blueberry bagels maybe that combo would taste great. Maybe just melt in the oven open faced and then add the tops? You can use any spreadable fruit or jam.

Whenever I fry chicken I always marinate it first in buttermilk, before dipping it in a coating. It tenderizes the chicken and keeps it so moist. I also soak onion rings or shreds before dipping them in seasoned flour and frying. The buttermilk takes the harsh sting out of the raw onion and they make the best onion rings or straws! I always fry in peanut oil, because it has a higher burn temp and the food comes out less greasy.

It won't have raw egg, won't go bad as fast and no salmonella risk. Here in Spain we can't eat homemade mayo with egg when pregnant because of the bacteria...

Summer really rolled in here this weekend. Suddenly it's 85F (just a few days before it was only 57F), so I decided to make ice cream for the first time (without an ice cream maker). We are hopefully going to try that out today. A simple buter pecan flavour.

That chicken marinade you used with buttermilk we’ve been doing that in our home for years and we call it Cornell chicken I’m not really sure why I got it from an aunt of mine and she got it from someone at Cornell University I think I don’t know but it’s the same exact recipe that you used! And it’s delicious and we love doing it out on the grill

The buttermilk marinade might work well with venison to help cut some of the gamyness

I think some kind of cheese would be great on the blueberry bagels. Maybe even a blue cheese 🤔 A stronger cheese (goat also) with the sweetness from the bagel could work, and even som walnuts and fig jam. I am allergic to milk so I have not tried any of this.
Thank you for sharing, it was so great to follow along ❤

Have you tried freeze dried blueberries in the bagels? Trader Joe’s sells them. Or you could make them in your freeze drier. Even reconstituted they would have less liquid than frozen. I’ve done your bagels with cinnamon and raisins or cinnamon and reconstituted dried apple and they’re delicious

I would place some grated cheddar and jalapeño slices on jalapeño bagels on baking stage.

I just experienced my bagels not floating for the second time and I think it's because the water wasn't bubble boiling yet 🤔 Seemed like the last two were reaching to top. Never really experienced this until recently.

Not sure...I'm wondering if your starter is strong enough...

English muffins are also a good “ first thing” to make with sourdough. I believe you used to make them quite often. They are delicious.

For a cheap and all natural deodorant that actually works: use white vinegar! Just spritz on after your bath/shower! Helps treat the cause!

It’s common in the south to marinate in buttermilk. Also, it’s great in cakes.

OMG I'm so excited to learn how to ferment the mayo! That's why we don't make it. Our family doesn't go through even a small batch fast enough, and there's a lot of waste.

I love your videos. I am a newbie to sourdough starter, and today I finally made your bagels. OMG! They turned out so good and I got so excited. My family raved about them so, I will no longer buy the store bought ones. One question I have is how do you store your bagels and how long do you think the shelf life would be. I don't think they will last to long with my family.

We eat right through them. The best way to store them would be to freeze them.

Hi Lisa! I love these videos. I wondered if you could make one on how you plan your day, week, etc.? I was a stay-at-home mom, then went back to work and am now back home. I am struggling to organize my days to where I feel on top of things and not pulled a hundred different directions. I wondered what your system was and if you could speak to that or if you already some blog posts, podcasts, videos talking about it? Thank you for all you do!

    • @FarmhouseonBoone
      @FarmhouseonBoone  Год назад +1

I have talked about this on previous videos, for me I keep a running list of things I want to get done or need together done...then each day as I have the time I look at my list and go to what is next. Also, I do things as they are in front of me...cleaning up as I go.
