I watched all of your limelight videos, very informative, thank you! I bought ten limelight and three quick fire, can't wait to see them grow and blossom! 😍
I have a limelight here in Tx, zone 8a. I have it in a spot that gets sun until about 1pm and then goes into shade for the remainder of our hot brutal days. It requires a lot of water even tho it gets a fair amt of shade or the leaves start getting crispy. There’s no way any panicle hydrangea could be in our full Tx sun, but it is doable if u can give it shade from the brutal afternoon sun here. Ur hydrangea hedge is stunning, and I hope to get another limelight later this yr, but everywhere that I have space for a hedge like urs is in the full sun so it won’t work for me here in my garden. I will always admire urs tho! 🥰😍😍🥰
Good to know. I am in 8b in the mountains of S. CA. I thought morning sun - till about 2:00 p.m would be better. What do you think? Most people say the heat is too intense here to grow hydrangeas.
@@pattischolten7303 It’s been my experience that in the hotter, more intense zones, hydrangeas need to be planted where they get morning sun and afternoon shade. I’d still be prepared to run drip to it or water it every day by hand bc mine needs a lot of water here. It’s on drip irrigation being watered by the drip 3x/week, and in between those irrigation days, I hand water. Once we hit our high summer temps between 110-115 (we’re in west Tx which is desert so it’s HOT in the summer), I’ll run the drip every day bc otherwise my limelight wants to get crispy leaf edges if I don’t. Our house faces the west, and our backyard faces east so my limelight is in the backyard which gets shaded by the house by about 1pm. U can try one hydrangea and see how it does for u. That’s what I did bc I wasn’t sure it could survive our brutal climate, but it has survived and has done well provided I give it plenty of water. I plan to get another one this fall since the first one has done well bc I find planting things in the fall fare better bc the weather isn’t as brutally hot then. Hope this helps!
Oh, my goodness! I was just wondering if I’m supposed prune the hedge I planted last year. It looks great. The plants are still small, but so full. It’s like you read my mind!💗
Dear Roxana, your videos inspired me a couple of years ago. I bought 3 limelights in 1 gallon containers for about $100 total and planted them in spring 2021 in my heavy ohio soil, about 7 feet apart. This year they are already 3-4 feet tall but just weren't growing fast enough. So I'm putting wood privacy fence and transplanting them elsewhere in the yard. While I don't have the patience to wait for them to grow, I've fallen in love with how beautiful they are. And I got a few more on sale last fall. Thanks for your fantastic videos. I find you so relatable and trust your gardening advice.
I’m so glad you said what you said about starting with smaller containers. I’m planning a hedge and the cost of five hydrangeas in #7 containers is more than I wanted to send. I usually start with smaller plants due to budget, so that really helps. I wouldn’t have them in full sun here in Georgia, though I always assume when someone says ‘full sun’ they don’t mean Georgia sun! 😂😂😂 your hedge is just lovely and I can’t wait to do mine.
Hi! These do very well in GA sun! I'm in the Mid GA area - I have 10 on the side of my house in more than 5 hrs of GA heat - they thrive. Just takes a lot of water ☺️
thanks for sharing - I learnt a lot. I really like the way you garden and share your experiences - the good and the bad. Its real gardening and gives me hope for someone who is new to gardening. I look forward to watching all your videos :)
Thank you so much for this video. I planted my front foundation with the limelight hydrangea and your information has been so helpful💕💕 your garden is lovely💕
Your hydrangea hedge is absolutely beautiful! Looks fantastic as a privacy hedge. If i had the space i would do the same. I have about 3-4 feet to work with width wise and am trying to figure out what shrub to use. Love that your hydrangeas can get so tall! 10 feet is amazing
Excellent post, thank you so much! I am also looking for something colorful to plant under mine, be sure to let us know if you find a great sun/shade ground cover with great color!
I would recommend pruning the lime lights in the fall if you get heavy snow in the winter. I lost a few big limbs one winter where the snow was very heavy and wet and the branches got so weighed down, a few snapped.
Bendiciones
Great video and information and right on que - just got my first lime light this year. it's tiny but I'm sure it will grow out a good amount by summers end. Thanks for sharing♥
Your hydrangea hedge is really magnificent which is what I am looking for. However, since they are planted in the full sun, what direction of sunlight do they receive everyday? and what is the hottest temperature they have been through over your area? our summer temperature is around 100F here in OKLAHOMA. Is that as hot as in your area? Thank you for sharing your success and beautiful hydrangeas hedge. You have very good taste in choosing what to plant as your hedge!!
We get hot temps here, upper 90s some weeks during the summer, they are planted from N to S, one side of the hedge to another… full sun. Check Linda Vater, she is in Oklahoma and grows hydrangeas too.
Beautiful! Do you have any pictures of what you do with the hydrangea when it's dry. I bought 2 paniculata hydrangeas last year and then realized how big they really get. I don't know how I can reuse it to decorate. Thanks
Hello! Thanks for this video! Have you ever planted a hydrangea on a slope? Will it grow upwards, upright, after compensating for the slope? Or is it going to droop over down the incline and tip over if I don't assist it and growing upwards? It's not a huge incline. Maybe 35°
Excellent information! Thank you. I would love to grow hydrangeas. I live in the mountains of CA - the high desert area. While it snows a bit in the winter, it can be up to 100 in the summer. Would 1/2 a day sun be ok for them? I'm thinking of planting one as a test plant on the east side of my house.
I would think you need to give them a bit of evening sun for sure and plenty of water, but check with somebody local, even in your neighborhood where you spot one.
Beautiful hedge of limelights ❤❤❤ this will be the 2nd year for mine and they are filling out nicely but some yellow leaves here and there dropping, what do you think? To much water or not enough?
Gorgeous. Thank you for taking the time to explain your experience with making the hydrangea hedge. It is stunning and you should be so proud of yourself. Thanks for the inspiration!
Roxanna it’s because of you everyone has a hydrangea hedge, you go girl 👍

Amazing information! Love hydrangeas and your hedge is gorgeous!
Thanks Deb!
I just found you and I am your area! 20 mins north of Indy. I am so happy to find someone gardening in the same zone. Love your channel!
Thank you! Welcome neighbor! 🌿
Love the fact that you prune up the bottom of your hydrangea hedge. So much extra room underneath them for under planting! You go girl!!
They get so big anyways that cutting the bottom section really does not take away from the whole hedge

Can't wait to see the hedge again this year. And don't forget to show us the "happy accident".

We do get snow but not in quantities where I would worry about limbs thankfully.

Very helpful and inspiring. 😊
Thank you so much❣️
Have you ever tried hydrangea cages to keep the lower branches propped up?
Beautiful! Do you have any pictures of what you do with the hydrangea when it's dry. I bought 2 paniculata hydrangeas last year and then realized how big they really get. I don't know how I can reuse it to decorate. Thanks
I don’t. I used them in vases indoors and I made some wreaths with them.
Beautiful

I haven’t! But I see them everywhere, just make sure they are pointing right up from the beginning
@@SoilandMargaritas thank you!!
I love this. I want a small privacy hedge can you do this with standards? Or is it better to train shrubs this way?
I have never done this with standards.

Try astilbe under the hydrangeas. I have pink and magenta

You know, I am not sure I love the "ombre" look of the white tips and pink bottoms.

Add the pegasis begonias for color and texture with the heucheras. Would that be too busy looking?
I am not sure, I also don't wanted to be so busy there, maybe I will find the right plant.. maybe not!
