You're Hydrangeas will be beautiful!! Excited to go along with you on your journey to grow your garden space.
Love watching your garden evolve. Thanks for sharing it with all of us!
Hi Matthew! I'm glad you got your Limelight Prime Hydrangeas planted. They will be so pretty when they bloom. I always enjoy it when you give your helpful tips. You do such a great job at explaining everything. Thank you so much for sharing!
Every spring is such a fun time to see what is new with your garden.
Great instructions on hedge planting...it's looking mighty good!♡
I enjoy your channel. You have so much experience and knowledge to share. I love how you are transforming the landscape at your new home. ❣️🤗
That hedge is going to look fabulous, looking forward to next weeks perennials
Matthew, lots of good information on planting hedges. I think the hydrangea hedge is going to be spectacular. Thank you so much!
They look beautiful Mathew 🍃🌸🍃
Oh my goodness, it’s so much fun watching you turn your new home into an extraordinary estate. Wo, wow, wow!
Please, please do a maintenance video on these as they grow. When and how you prune. How you fertilize. Thank you j
Traditionally, in large properties, there would be backup plants in holding areas to replace plants in hedges. Might be something you can do given the space you have. You are doing an amazing amount of work!
Matthew that hedge is going to be stunning! I get worn out just watching you take on your property!!!
How gorgeous is that hedge of hydrangeas going to be! Such an awesome job you do at designing and explaining how to do appropriate planting and spacing💚💚💚
An excellent hedge tutorial Matthew. Thankyou!
I lovevpannicle hydrangeas. However, here in Tallahassee, Fl it's too hot and humid to get pretty color on them. I've figured out that if I prune the first blooms during late summer I can get a late second flush when its cooler at night and they turn pink!
Can’t wait to see the hedge when it’s blooming 💕🌳🌳🌳🌳
Love all of your designs!
Exciting progress can’t wait to see things filling and flowering !👍😎❤️❤️❤️
My limelights are not floppy wat so ever❤❤❤❤
Thanks Matthew. Those hydrangeas look so nice. Can’t wait to see them bloom.😊
Thanks for the tips. I wish i would have seen this a day earlier because i just planted a lime light tree, from now on i will look for prime.
I’ve not seen Limelight Prime standards yet. I’m on the lookout for them though.
Rất vui được nghe bạn chia sẻ về kinh nghiệm trồng và chăm sóc hoa 🌺 của mình .
So much work! You are making amazing progress and it’s beautiful already!! Always love watching your videos. Thanks for sharing it all with us. 😊
👏🏼👏🏼 very nice! Coming along great
So thankful Jess introduced you in one of her videos! Always learning and getting inspired from you, great video on hedges!
Took a recommendation from another gardener online for helping to stop limelight blooms from drooping in the rain. I have three Little Limes and one standard. I cut them back in the spring so that all of the small twigs leading from the large ones are pruned. I then look at how many large ones I have and sometimes will cut out one or two if I think it will help to lessen the burden of blooms. You get smaller and fewer blooms with this method, but they stand up, which is worth it to me. The standard lime is all bare branches and I leave no small twigs. This one is in a spot where deer can eat it, and do. I am going to cover it with netting because spraying becomes impossible because of its size.
Great tip if you have an existing Limelight. If you’re planting new, I’d recommend alternatives so you can have all of the blooms and stem sturdiness.
Great video! It's going to be so beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Love these! I planted 7 in a row 2+ years ago. The first spring I cut them back pretty hard and then this last year I didn't prune them at all. I'm so interested to follow along with you and see how you prune these.
WOW! WOW! WOW! 36 hydrangeas! Go Matthew! It’s going to be beautiful! ❤
I enjoy all the information you provide and I enjoy seeing your plan for your garden come together. I just wish you could film more of the actual work being done. I hope to see that grass edger in action.
There was an entire video on the edger last fall.
It looks beautiful I planted a prime hedge few years ago and I got one off center and it drives nuts too lol but I’m living with it 🌸
Matthew, the Hydrangea hedge looks great, can’t wait to see it in full bloom. You did an awesome job ! Love it !
I'm SO excited!! Love Limelight hydrangeas any hydrangeas, but this is going to be a show stopper when it matures.❤❤❤
Beautiful! It's so satisfying to see your new hedge go in. I'm inspired to get out and get planting in my own garden.
The hydrangeas will do great in that area. Thanks for sharing.
💕💗💕🙏🙏🙏 Nice job, that will be so beautiful in a few months!!!🌱🌱🌱
Thanks!! Great vídeo
Hi. That was ALOT of work 💜 but it is going to be beautiful.
I love your channel! You are so good with garden design.
Thank you! I am literally getting ready to do the same project just a much smaller scale, I need 5 primes for a section of fence. I had chosen limelight primes for the exact reasons you did.
Great content! I always look forward to your videos!
Going to be stunning, Matthew.
Hi Matthew ! These hydrangeas are going to be gorgeous ! What size auger did you use to plant these. I’d like to buy one for now.🌸🌺
It’s the largest one Power Planter offers from their store linked in the description.
Thank you for all the spacing discussion. I'm working on spacing for a mixed Conifer bed right now. It's hard sometimes"guessing" how much they'll grow long term and I really don't want to set myself up to have to prune later.
Going to look so beautiful
You did an awesome job with the spacing!
Gonna look Amazing
I enjoy your videos. Your property is going to be beautiful.
Thanks for this video. My Hydrangeas didn't winter well. We had a late 0 degrees and even tho I covered them it was too much. I won't be replacing them as long as I'm in zone 6b, 7a. My roses were just fine, even the new Heirloom roses I planted in Sept 2023 survived. I look forward to seeing this hedge grow.
You should probably try paniculata or arborescens cultivars.
Thank you for the info Mathew! The hedge is going to be beautiful! Blessings!
Gonna be great!
Thank you! Looks great!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Good for you! You have them in the ground! Yay!! I hope you show us when you edge that bed.. it will be so satisfying! lol
I can’t wait until the perennials come! How is the shade garden coming along?? Thank for sharing! 😊♥️
Is that a Japanese Maple behind you, out in the bright sun? If so, what type?
I regret planting Limelights in front of my home. It did help by trimming a lot of the bottom branches off so they're not laying on the ground if (when) they droop.
I don’t know. I just moved here last year.
Great informative video Mathew.
I believe your Hydrangea hedge at your previous home had Daylilys planted under them originally, will you be doing that again? I just loved that!
Thank you so much,
Brenda🇨🇦
I have no plans to underplant them at this time.
Woh yes it’s going to be beautiful, just wondering what you will fertize them with and how often I have little limereat video
I used BioTone when planting. I usually one fertilize in spring with an organic fertilizer. Nothing specific or special.
@@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden iam in Vancouver Bc Canada we don’t get espoma products here do you know what would be the same
@valjalava1951 anything labeled as a “Starter” fertilizer that’s organic
Hello, ở Việt Nam hoa cẩm tú cầu tôi chỉ thấy ở chợ tôi chưa thấy người ta trồng, tôi sẽ theo dõi bạn coi cách trồng hoa cẩm tú cầu ra sau.
💙👍🏻💙
I'm jealous of your hedge!!! Thanks for sharing the irrigation details. How often will you be watering them during the summer and for how long? I've got 4 limelight primes bought from Great Garden Plants and they are not as robust as I thought they would be. I'm considering moving them forward slightly so they get more light (currently up against the side of my garage which gets morning light but deep afternoon shade), but think they might not have gotten enough irritation last year. I have drip tape in that bed but probably emitters is a better solution.
Watering duration depends on the conditions outside and your soil type. What works for me, may not work for you. But I’ll probably water them for an hour every 2 to 3 days this year depending on rain.
💕💕🎶🎶
Matthew did you learn to garden from your mother and grandmother?
What is your runtime for the drip irrigation? And how frequently are you running it? I.e. daily or every other day? Thanks
None of my drip has ever been on a regular schedule, except containers. I manually gauge it by the weather. Soil type, weather conditions, temperature, and the emitters all affect the amount of water you should give and how long you run the system. What works for me, may not work for you. It’s trial and error.
@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden I will give that a try. Thanks for the reply!
Limelight prime hydrangeas grow in Saint Augustine, Florida?
You can find the plant hardiness zones here: www.provenwinners.com/plants/hydrangea/limelight-prime-panicle-hydrangea-hydrangea-paniculata
🌿🥀🌹💐🌸🌞💧💯😊
I hate to bother you Matthew. What is your fertilizer of choice for hydrangea? Thank you!
Whatever is cheap and organic. I usually use Hollytone here because of our higher pH soil.
I wish I could afford that many plants…I am jealous 😊
Why Limelight with all the flopping? Should have done Firelight or Quick Fire.
I didn’t plant Limelight. I planted Limelight Prime.
@@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden Oh, okay. How do you feel starting basically from scratch with your new landscape?
That you Matthew all great tips ! ! 🪻🌷💚🙃 I watch Horttube and he suggests planting a mixed hedge border in case disease or pests take out one particular type of shrub, that way if you lose a shrub it won’t be the whole line of shrubs and be quite so devastating to your hedge border. Just a thought ? I believe you do like the formality of planting only one type of shrub though and it does look lovely so maybe just ignore my comment? 🪻🌷💚🙃
The back side of the fence will be a mixed shrub/tree border. Sometimes the risk is worth a mono culture, and it’s easier when planting a deciduous shrub as a hedge rather than an evergreen if there are issues in the future.
@@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden so very true. 🪻🌷💚🙃 Good luck and Happy growing !
