    I always have a helmet on, gloves and a properly fitted body protector.
    Yes injuries still occur but it is less likely to be life ending if you have protective gear.
    If I had my own horse I’d use safety stirrups and safety reins.

      You don’t need the reigns. If you know you have no chance staying on, let the reigns go. Don’t hold on. Only hold on if your horse will stop and it’s safe to.

      @@cheekycharlie24Well in the video it’s more about if the horse was to bolt and the reins get stuck. Also the girl that inspired the reins did let go I believe it’s just her neck got stuck.

      They are re-usable !

  • @sandrajenkins6822
    @sandrajenkins6822 7 месяцев назад +10

    Or, as I do a UK rider and Western riders do) use split reins. They're useful when you fall off and the horse runs off and can't because they keep treading on them. This has happened to me twice and when they run off they end up on the road to get home. Also heavy so perfect for neck reining and a loose contact.

    • @the_ethical_horse_girl
      @the_ethical_horse_girl 7 месяцев назад +2

      That was my thought too! And I ride english, but split reins never inconvenienced me. I acctually loved using them for a mare, that I started this summer, she was a bolter at first and when I was getting her used to the tack if she got scared and bolted, the reins would just drop and drag along, not getting tangled and scaring her even more. Of course, I can see how this could be an issue if you train beginers who tend to drop their reins a lot or do english competitions, so this is a great invention!

    Its so interesting to me how many saftey devices you all have in the UK and worry and fear but very little preparation goes into your horses. Horses aren't trained to be less spooky, to give to pressure, to not panic. That seems like the obvious place to begin with safety.
