- How many times will the Tormach crash this week? We'll find out as we make a 32mm / 22mm spanner to change out tools in ER-20 & ER-32 collets

I'd be hanging out by my stop button for sure. Thanks for sharing the learning elements of this project. Fun to watch you prototype with the Tormach. It was interesting to see how the much effect the lube had on the the finish of the product.
Thanks Tom. The CNC can be a scary thing especially when you are running a program for the first time. I have a feeling my entire CNC life will be spent having mini panic attacks.
@@GregsGarage I bet you'll get comfortable with it as you use it more. I have had a similar experience as I have learned to use my Shapeoko CNC. Still learning. Although the Tormach is a whole different level of intensity.
Well done mate.
Nice work Greg! I felt your pain on the stock ram. Like one of your kids getting hurt, leaves that pit in your stomach. This highlights how difficult these things are. Thanks for taking us through it. I really really want a C&C machine now.
LOL! Every time that machine dives at a part, my heart jumps a bit!!! It's like riding a new roller coaster.
Oh yeah! Congrats Greg. BTW, just know that I was JUST AS NERVOUS as you were every time I watched the Z come down..... :-)
LOL. That lead in is a high pucker factor... I'm sure I'll get over it some day.
I am amazed by your willingness to jut dive into new things. Looks like you're having a blast!
Good lessons learned. Be patient and double check and test runs just above the part to build confidence. You will want that wrench made from steel eventually. Thanks for sharing Greg.
Agreed on the steel wrench Randy. I'll have to tool up for running steel parts at some point... My bank account may need some "recovery time" before that happens. LOL!
Nicely done! All the cool kids crash their tools :D I need to make a setup like this for my ER collet chucks, it looks very convenient!!
What size collets are you using? I can throw one of mine in my luggage. I'll be in your neck of the woods next week.
@@GregsGarage all my collet chucks are ER20, if you've got a spare, that would be amazing and it'd be a great excuse to meet up!
@@PracticalRenaissance I'll chuck one in my bag. I've got your #. I'll text you went I know my KC schedule.
Good stuff Greg! Learning can be scary!!
I need to take a couple Valiums before I head to the CNC... LOL... I suspect I'll relax once I get most of the bugs worked out.
such a marvelous channel
Friggin sweet!
Thank you sir! When are we going to see a shop update? I'm interested to see how you are growing your bodyshop business. Take care brother!
Very cool. Like a modern day blacksmith making your own tools.
That's the theory I'm using... I need to make the tools that make everything possible. That's where I will learn my lessons!
You're having too much fun Greg;-)
We like the same vids it seems ha ha, have a great day Woodsy!
Fact! I'm sure you realize this... It will all come back around to guitars at some point soon! :D
@@GregsGarage Me too ha ha. There is just so much to make that I dont know what project to start, however I'm fairly confident that the next project is a guitar. At least that is the plan at this stage.
How cool is it to make the tools you need , still amazed how the saw can cut throught the alum. plate like butter.
1/2" plate is no match for a cheapo battery powered skil saw... Making the tools has been a great learning experience.
wtg Greg.. awesome tool you made
Thanks Bob!
Really cool man! I love watching the raw material be transformed. Awesome work!
Thanks brother! Maybe I'll get to make a few VW parts at some point!
@@GregsGarage That would be pretty cool! That wrench reminded me of the wrench needed to loosen the axle bolts. They need to be thin 27mm.
I've been off here to long! What kind of mill is that?
Single block and look at your distance to go .👍
@@DEATHTRAPHOTRODS It's a Tormach 1100. I love having it around.
nice work
Thanks Hanson.
This is a great video series to follow along on Greg I’m really enjoying it.
Thanks Jeff! I'm having a blast with the new machine.
Cool project! It reminds me that job shop work of qty 1 of a part would be a tough business to be in.
I agree Gary. Prototyping is a mean game. I'm glad I don't have to make my living selling the prototypes... I'd be starving to death.
Turned out great in the end and you learned something that was repairable
You need grip jaws so the part doesn’t fly out, I’m sure your well aware of them, but there is a easy to make kind, it has to do with screws, I’ve seen them before but have a difficult time explaining it.
Mighty bites. I know what you are talking about.
"It's a lesson, it's a lesson" great t-shirt slogan! : ) Great video. So fun. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Ain't that the truth! I'm trying to learn that the CNC does only what it's told... My brain wants to blame it, but I can't let that happen. I need to understand the problems and what causes them... The lessons suck to learn, but its necessary if I want to do better next time. Aloha WIDE!
How did old Jack on Gold Rush put it... No Guts No Glory... let that thing fly bud.
Oh yeah!.. BTW... I owe you an email... Just haven't had the time to sit and write it. I haven't forgotten you Jerry!
Ha ha man you are great thanks for showing us this
Greg, in PathPilot, use the max velocity slider to creep up on the part and look at your distance to go DRO (DTG) to stop those crashes from happening. You can see it here: ruclips.net/video/PlI6jyV6Vz8/видео.html
I am almost always making one offs and this has saved me countless times.
You have moved on so much since i last saw a video by you. I think it was you making a homemade cnc!
Oh man! That was almost 4 years ago!!! A lot has happened since then. I now have a couple CNC machines at home and a few others off-site that I can use. Life (outside of my real job) has become all about the robots!
@@GregsGarage i missed a lot! I did watch a few of your Karmann Ghia vids back then too.
3:01 When that happened, I thought of this:

LOL. I watch that last week. Awesome compilation.
