I believe (from watching other reviews) that little metal air regulator thing is for plugging into an air can for use without a compressor. Obviously the airbrush has a built in regulator up at the front, which is amazing in this price range, so a regulator on the hose also would be redundant.
The fact you can hook this thing up to Mr. Hobby's Mr. Air canisters for mobile airbrushing is honestly a huge selling factor for me. you'd be surprised the extra coin that can be picked up airbrushing nails lol
A quick read of the English instructions tells you the included hose and connection are for use with a portable air can. Also explains that rotating the nozzle cap 1/4 turn is designed to permit back flushing the airbrush. Best and simplified way to back flush. I have the H&S Evolution 0.4mm and Tamiya 0.2mm air brushes, the Creos PS289 0.3mm is my favorite for quality spraying and ease of cleaning.
There were a few areas I wished were a little cleaner quality wise but given the several hours of footage I filmed and sifted through I was pretty pleased with how it turned out. That said, I'll continue to try to make the future videos better each time. (This one the exposure on the main camera was too low so the quality was a little off on the frontal shots but the overhead footage was really the important footage anyway :) ).
You can loose aircap to the point where nozzle will be hidden inside to backflush. There will be no need to cover nozzle - just press trigger and move it backwards as usually :)
Pro tip. Plumbers tape always goes on clockwise or rather the same direction you are putting the bolt on. So that way when you screw on the coupling or bolt or whatever it doesnt fight the tape and start to pull it off.
Not sure if you knew this at the time of recording this video but those 289's "Mr Hobby" are made by the same company that makes the Iwatas. You are basically getting an Iwata HL model at half the price. Excellent Airbrush! The Tamiya HG line are also made by the same company which I believe is called B.C. or B.B. Rich. I have the Tamiya HG Superfine.... best brush I ever used for miniatures!
Just bought a 289.... I am very happy with your results. Intend to use mine mainly for 1/35 armor and 1/48 aircraft. Looks like it will do a lot better than my cheap chinese brushes that constantly give me problems.
I have several Badgers (Sotar, Patriot, Renegade) and the PS-770 (0.18mm) and the PS-270 (0.2mm) and I have a very steady hand, I cannot really tell the difference between the brands, they are all very very good! I also have a IWata CM-SB micron and I can get the same detail from the Sotar, CM-SB and PS-770! Now I have had these for more than a year! I have also used the ChromeAir paints since they came out and they are not an ordinary paint! A 50/50 mix of 70% alcohol and you can paint eyelashes with ease! I have done the capillary veins in eyeballs.
@@ham1594 I have the California Air Tools 1P1060S Compressor and I have several braided (10+) The 1/8" connection will fit without a adapter and a few vinyl air hoses (5+), I also recently bought a cordless compressor from spraygunner.com/black-cordless-airbrush-compressor-battery-powered/ which is holding up to it's promise nicely, in other words it is superior to most other compressors on the market. The CAT 1060 has a tank , so as long as you drain it every night, then there is need for a water trap on the air hose, (I still put one on, to be safe).
Man I got one of these and have used it to paint shoes. This airbrush is great at atomizing paint. It is my go to airbrush now.. my badger is nice “bang for the buck”… but this … speechless
I would advise against taping the needle of any airbrush that uses Iwata type tiny nozzles unless you want to flare it. Just push it gently until you feel the needle touching the nozzle and you are ok. Also avoid pulling back the trigger and release until it snaps repeatedly.
On page 2 of the instructions, it shows the ‘flimsy’ black hose and the large silver component being used on an aerosol pressure pack can. Both items are not required for a regular airbrush/compressor setup.
I bought the PS-270 from Spraygunner (My first airbrush) after reading a ton of reviews. Mr. Hobby's seem to be the best that money can buy in 2019. Question: How do you dispose of all your cleaning/thinning solutions? Like from a cleaning pot.
When we are out at the shop we have a big bucket we dump waste into that ends up being dumped in a large dumpster when it is full. Otherwise if I'm at home I dispose of it the same way that I do my paint water, the Medea Airbrush cleaner I use (Iwata) says environmentally friendly on the bottle, so down the drain it goes when I clean my paint pot out. Until I received this airbrush for review I had not heard of Mr. Hobby air brushes, I think that is unfortunate, this one was awesome. I'll have to loop up the 270 and see what that one looks like :)
Death Ray Designs Mr. Hobby is the division of GSI Creos that specializes in high quality hobby supplies. I hadn’t heard of them ever before a year and a half ago. Now I realize that they make some of the best hobby supplies out there. Their catalog is BIG. Great paints too.
Excellent value for money, but a higher end airbrush not really necessary for a beginner. Mr. Hobby's stuff easier to just refer to model numbers. e.g. PS289 & everyone knows what you're talking about without confusion. Excellent choice if budget isn't an issue, but there are airbrushes which will do as good a job, last as long for considerably less. e.g. Sparmax SP-35 or Max-3. Badgers are good too -caveat, if you're in the USA. I have three of them. Well two Badgers and an Omni. But the brand is too expensive outside the USA because of the ridiculously inflated USD and exchange rates.
A lot of the writing is katakana, a form of writing that mimics American sounds. In this case, it was repeating the English words on the box, so you didn't miss anything by not being able to read it.
Hey Justin & to all in the chat that have experience with the 105 and/or 289. I’m in the market to paint/primer/clear coat some 1/24 size model cars (tired of using spray cans). Do you think for base coating needs the 289 will handle base coating primer and clear coats or would the 105 be the better option as the needle sizes are bigger and since the only 289 has a .2 and .3 needle available? Thank you in advance
I have the ps 289 yes you can use for 1/24. Take into consideration how easy it would be to replace parts if ever needed for either airbrush and I think the badger would work to.
just mine yesterday and I'm watching these videos because I don't read Japanese so I've already watched reviews before I purchased it so I'm a little familiar with it but didn't expect all Japanese instructions i thought there would be some English too. wrong.
@@DeathRayDesigns I'm gonna put it through its paces this weekend. I have been hesistant to experiment with it (using ole reliable Sotar 20/20) but seeing you do such an extensive product review shows me I definitely didn't waste my money on it! Really awesome how in-depth you went with showing what it can do.
@@travislankford9254 I appreciate the kind words :) Looking forward to tinkering with this air brush as well as others in the future. It really opened my eyes to the possibilities out there in terms of different air brush brands,
The website says the airbrush has a 1/8th inch connection so I got the tooty air compressor to with it. Well 1/8th is much bigger than the air hose connection and airhose that comes with so I cant attach it to the compressor. What size is the airhose that comes with so I can get an adapter and finally use it? I'm thinking 1/16th inch but I'm at a loss as everything I read says 1/8th which it is certainly not
@@ham1594 yes at the bottom of the brush you can take off the tiny connector which reveals the 1/8th inch connection. Turns out the small connection is an optional connection for aerosol cans. Hope that helped
Save your self some time and money and just buy a regular airbrush hose either 1/4 and 1/8 npt or 1/8 & 1/8 depending on your compressor since Iwata, H&S, Creos, Grex etc. all use 1/8 NPT at the airbrush and most compressors use 1/4 (I use a quick disconnect between my hose and compressor). BADGER & PAASCHE are the only odd ones out.

Thank you for your review. I must say a lot of parts look like iwata. Interesting
They are made in the same factory and the same machines as Iwata. It's unbranded Iwata.
Just got my Creos PS-289 and wow sprays just like a iwata eclipse hp-cs maybe even better no joke !!!
it should spray better than the Eclipse since its basically the equivalent of the Iwata HPC+

Have badgers and GSI. The GSI atmomise paint better. SOTAR comes close when paint is thinned properly - think it has the same head as the Krome.
how many is too many airbrushes ? That’s not a Mac valve it’s for a can of air Spraygunner is the best 👍
