9:00 reminds me of a time in high school marching band when our two piccolo players found out they could make an awful noise by playing extremely high notes a half step apart from each other. :D
Half step in the march or in the tone? If the march, the awful sound was likely you screaming at them. I've never been in a marching band, but used to get yelled at alot while drilling on the parade ground, btw.
Now I'm even more angry at my old music teacher who told me that the recorder wasn't a real instrument and I needed to pick a different one to continue studying music! I could have eventually gotten to play a huge variety of machine gun and table leg looking recorders...
Take care these things "only" shoot air waves with different pitches, nothing like Einsteins dream: "Ich wollte immer auf einem Lichtstrahl reiten" ;-) I always wanted to ride with the speed of light. But amazing, like the very big Organ Pipes the deep sound makes vibrations you can feel e.g. With the feets, lung etc. not only listen, and long before the invention of electronic amplifiers. but more interesting and with better characters. And this time nobody's asking: why does that guy have a bow? It's because he's a violinist, you rockstop.
So recorders are literally just organ pipes with changeable wavelengths? That makes so much sense actually. As an organist, I’m embarrassed that I never made that connection.
it's interesting you would term it as "Changeable Wavelengths" why do you care about the Length of the wave ? as a musician you should be focusing on FREQUENCY or PITCH if you prefer, but more correctly... FREQUENCY now yes.. there is a direct correlation between Frequency and Wavelength .. sure but i think it's more correct to say that ... since pipe organs have a FIXED CONSTRUCTION and engineered to produce 1 note (hence you need multiple pipes on an organ) each pipe produces 1 FREQUENCY (similar to a tuning fork or a triangle) a Recorder or pipe instrument that has multiple holes is a single instrument WHICH HAS THE CAPABILITY OF ALTERING THE FREQUENCY based on which hole is selected i wouldn't call it , having anything to do with the wavelength i mean, you're not referring to phase or rising or falling edge when talking about an organ, so why refer to wavelength (aka.. the properties of the wave) like i said.. you should just stick to the product of the wave and that is.... IT'S FREQUENCY Interesting comment though., i'll give you that much
Almost shed a tear when she started playing the Shire theme. Also wow, those crazy sounds on the contrabass recorder, I love it. it's like a mecha didgeridoo.
I honestly didn't have any idea that these massive recorders exist. Brilliant. At this point you should challenge Dave to a bass battle. PS. I liked and subscribed 😊
The slap tongue technique should count as slapping. It's the equivalent to slap bass. Loved this vid as a bass guitarist and an elementary music teacher who teaches recorder. :D
As a "standard" elementary school recorder player (soprano?) and electric bassist, I had no idea any of those huge recorders existed. Wow! Besides definitely being slappable, as you demonstrated beautifully, they also look like periscopes. Put a mirror up top and you'd have a better view of your audience.
As someone who SLAPPs the bass regularly, I declare the lower bass recorders on this list to be SLAPPABLE! Let the Slappers and Team Recorder join in peace!
Pianos do it as well. Go play a major triad starting with Bb4 and you’ll hear a high ringing sound that you didn’t play. I’m not knowledgeable enough to explain it, but if you research overtones and harmonics, you’ll find explanations. Adam Neely has some really good videos on it.

Twosetviolin: good we're not the only one got roasted
Also for Twosetviolin: you should be practicing not watching this video
I've always hated recorders because we've only ever had the fake plastic ones, but you really made some interesting sounds there that changed my mind, even though the looked like some weird medical instruments.
I love that look though. It could fit in some futuristic live show with some turntables, a theramin, etc.
Plastic ones aren’t fake.
I think man it’s not that they re plastic but cause they are cheap parents buy them for their overimpulsive children to make horrible noises.
@@OhKnow379 I think a penny whistle sounds better than a cheap plastic recorder if you're going bang for the buck. We grew up with instruments in the house and the plastic recorder just irritated me.
I definitely wasnt expecting that the great bass would look like a telescope
To me it looks like and ancinet projectile weapon
Videos like yours are why this platform is still a viable place for human existence. Thank you so much for such a great description!! I also can’t get enough of all those basses!!
Naww thanks!

Violins and guitars have weak strings without much kinetic energy, but the CHAD bass strings are thicc and slap like a champ

Maybe that's the resonance frequency of your desk :0 (or some harmonic of it)
So recorders are literally just organ pipes with changeable wavelengths? That makes so much sense actually. As an organist, I’m embarrassed that I never made that connection.
Better late than never~! ^_^
@@bluheavy1497 organist is actually latin for masturbator
@@Admiralmeriweather so a pianist organist...
it's interesting you would term it as "Changeable Wavelengths"
why do you care about the Length of the wave ?
as a musician you should be focusing on FREQUENCY or PITCH if you prefer, but more correctly... FREQUENCY
now yes.. there is a direct correlation between Frequency and Wavelength .. sure
but i think it's more correct to say that ... since pipe organs have a FIXED CONSTRUCTION and engineered to produce 1 note (hence you need multiple pipes on an organ) each pipe produces 1 FREQUENCY (similar to a tuning fork or a triangle)
a Recorder or pipe instrument that has multiple holes is a single instrument WHICH HAS THE CAPABILITY OF ALTERING THE FREQUENCY based on which hole is selected
i wouldn't call it , having anything to do with the wavelength
i mean, you're not referring to phase or rising or falling edge when talking about an organ, so why refer to wavelength (aka.. the properties of the wave)
like i said.. you should just stick to the product of the wave and that is.... IT'S FREQUENCY
Interesting comment though., i'll give you that much

AMAZING contrabass playing, Sarah! Wow!

Love Davie504 and love Team Recorder - what a beautiful spirit Sarah - there definitely needs to be a collaboration video with the two of you!...
Why did this only appear in my RUclips suggestions now two years after its release?... 🤔
I am a bass guitar and upright bass player and I can unequivocally say that all of those bass recorders slap! Too cool!

Sarah: when two recorders play together the sound waves produce a third note
Me, a piano player: what kind of magic is that?!
It's called interference.
All instrument ensembles can produce harmonic interference, if well tuned. In a choir you can hear many notes that are just harmonic interference
@@lesfrisbees harmonics are one of those things that make music theory so interesting
@@fredericodias562 One time a teacher in uni told us that when a choir sings on a church you can hear new sounds waves made when the originals bounce out the walls, and because they way churches are build it allow them to be more recognizable
