Thanks to Juho Myllylä, Hester Groenleer, and the team at Paetzold by Kunath for appearing in this video too!

That's how I slap my wife.
This was fun. I played clarinet up through the end of high school. I was OK but never amazing and left my clarinet home when I went to university, but I picked up a recorder to have fun with in my dorm room and loved it. I got better at it than I ever was at the clarinet, because I only ever wanted to play Celtic folk music anyway. I am old now and also have enjoyed 6 hole wooden flutes, penny whistles, and harmonics. I am not a professional, or even a talented amateur, but playing brings me a joy that I don't get anywhere else.
Amazing share.
Holy shit, that "slapping" adds a very rythmical feel to the recorder that I'd never seen! Even though I wouldn't call it a slap per se, I'd consider slapping because of that percussiony bassy feel, that shit's great. And you guys are fucking beasts, that mouth slapping, goddamn

I only have five -- sopranino through bass -- but when somebody who didn't know there were more sizes of recorder is impressed by the bass, I say, "there's a size smaller than sopranino that doesn't fit my fingers, and several sizes larger than the bass that don't fit my bank account." I've had my eye on a Paetzold for ages.
(I also play bass guitar, double bass, and a bunch of treble instruments.)
Sarah actually ease my depression slightly. She seem so nice and I get happy from her happiness. Also, I just ordered a Thomann alto recorder so I can play it in bed for those "don't wanna get up :("-mornings and become a bit happier by that too! 9:00 reminds me of a time in high school marching band when our two piccolo players found out they could make an awful noise by playing extremely high notes a half step apart from each other. :D
This also sounded like the exact pitch your phone makes when you get a tornado alert
Sometimes I do this with (to?) my students if they're zoning out to get their attention
Half step in the march or in the tone?
If the march, the awful sound was likely you screaming at them.
I've never been in a marching band, but used to get yelled at alot while drilling on the parade ground, btw.
It's very similar with ocarinas, the lower ones are more quiet. But the world's largest ocarina was actually part of a pipe organ because they couldn't fit pipes that big in the building. I have a bass in A, which is the lowest I have, but there are so many sizes and shapes of wind instruments. Ocarinas I like because they're usually a little smaller. Even the biggest ones available for purchase are less than 3lbs or so and can be carried around easily.

I love the friendly ribbing these fantastic musicians give one another. What a great opportunity to learn about instruments. Thank you for the demos, Sarah and Team Recorder!
I gotta say I kinda like the "clickity clack" of the paddles on those recorders. I think it adds a bit more rhythm to the whole musical piece being played. As a drummer (who also plays other instruments) I really like it when there is a clear and defined rhythmic feel to the music. Some people practice to a metronome because they find it easier to keep time. The clickity clack of the paddles kind of acts like a pseudo metronome....as long as the person has rhythm that is haha.

@@gigihanmandarin As the video covers, there's more than one kind of bass. As someone who plays the bass guitar and string bass, I'm acknowledging the bass legitimacy of a bass recorder player, just as I would a bass sax or tuba player.
Absolutely brilliant. This reminds me of the flute family, of course, with its ridiculous array of bass instruments. Absolutely stunning what can't be done with them timbrally. So much of it sounds like avant garde music from the 1950s and 1960s. Shades of John Cage and David Tudor...

When you played the lowest note on the contrabass I went “whoooaaa!” That’s so awesome! Then I heard the sub bass and literally squealed and then I died with the great bass lol. I started watching you because my 5 year old son is starting his recorder in school but I refused to buy a cheapie recorder and I’m a nerd so research was needed and I’m so happy to watch your channel now. I have a thing about the recorder sounding good. Take care these things "only" shoot air waves with different pitches, nothing like Einsteins dream: "Ich wollte immer auf einem Lichtstrahl reiten" ;-) I always wanted to ride with the speed of light. But amazing, like the very big Organ Pipes the deep sound makes vibrations you can feel e.g. With the feets, lung etc. not only listen, and long before the invention of electronic amplifiers. Reminds me also about US-Type of steam engines whistles, Big boy on arrival, nomen est omen, these pieces are simply B I G, wauhaaahhhuuuuuuu with a roll, and yes the same is true for big German type steam engines, you can hear them from 2 miles behind the hill, nota bene!
