As a sax player: you can slap a bass. There's a technique called slap tonguing used often in jazz and contemporary sax solos and it's actually very fun to do

I've slapped by bass ocarina a few times. It sounds really weird, but it's a neat instrument. You're not really supposed to slap it, but who cares, it's fun. It has a really cool echo. But I guess it kind of depends on which one. I have two and they sound totally different. I really want a contrabass but they're too heavy for me.
