Tiger Oak is the most beautifully grained wood in the world, I had a piece that was over 100 years old and the colours were very dark grain contrasted with a lighter colour that was almost the same golden orange as on a living tiger! It was almost 8 feet long and a little higher that counter top height, I was forced to sell it because of a financial emergency and the auction got me over $3,000! The buyer had several pieces of tiger oak and he wanted to add it to his collection. it was in excellent condition and he thanked me for selling it. Still miss it but it went to a good home and I'm satisfied with the outcome. Thank you for honoring that amazing piece and I'm looking forward to future works. Stay safe, stay well and please keep up the beautiful work. Peace to you and long life.♥
Omg my husband is on his way to buy me this exact same piece!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 one of the feet needs fixing but it's absolutely gorgeous!!! Saving this video!😍😍😍😍😍
I love that! It would fit perfectly in my home. I restored a 1912 craftsman home about 25 years ago. And I have the perfect place to put it LOL. Anyway, I am loving your channel. Since I am a new subscriber, I have lots to watch.
This exact style of buffet sat in my grandma's dining room, and was my favorite place to explore. She had beautiful linens, and treasures from her childhood tucked away. I would give anything to have a piece like this. Hers was stained very dark, as were all the other empire pieces in her home. She was a true lady in every sense of the word, loved deeply and unconditionally.
Great choice of finish. Dark enough to satisfy customers requirements but light enough to reveal the beauty of the tiger Oak that was hidden a little too much when it came to your shop
Wow John! You are some magician! It makes me happy for this piece of furniture- to have come from where she was found and be given a whole new life as a beautiful lady!
We have one in our dining area. Was painted years ago, by someone. The wood insides is really dark so someday may strip and sand down to what it once was.
I watched this on Roku and I just had to tell you, I love that you don't paint these pieces some hideous "updated" color but rather keep them original or close to it. I love antique furniture and what ignorant people can do to them is just appalling. So, thank you! I love this piece and the care and time and effort you put into it was just perfect.
I refinished the exact same hutch 25 years ago...it is sitting in our living room right now... it is weird to it on the screen, it is identical, wow! Hi from Ontario Canada, I am a new subscriber and watch binging tonight.
We have a buffet exactly like this. You did a great job. Ours is in much better shape than your original was. We did not have any repairs. Just cleaning.
I’m so happy I found this! I just inherited a full turn of the century dining set which includes a buffet that matches this almost exactly, tiger oak and everything! I’ve been scared to start refinishing r but feel much more confident (and informed) after seeing you bring this one back to life! Thanks a bunch!
Wow, my parents had that exact buffet when I was a kid in the early 1960's! In this disposal society that we live in, it's wonderful to see you bring the treasures of the past back to life again!
I agree! I love anything with a history. For me to ever go to a store and buy new furniture is just silly. Give me something with some character and some grit! Haha thanks and thanks for watching!
That is so beautiful! I have a dresser type tiger wood. It is much darker and is 70 plus years . I would love to refinish it a little bit lighter . Thanks again for so much detailed info . That is what I like about your channel . 😀
This Is Gorgeous!! What a solid piece of furniture. I would love to have it in my house. I would change my whole dining room to have it!! That Tiger Oak is just, WOW!
Hey! I'm a little late, but I just discovered your channel. You are really so talented. Beautiful work. And you seem so laid back! In addition, you and Bucko are both pretty cute. Keep posting!
I recently bought one like this but a bit more ornate and a top shelf. I can't wait to see the tiger oak in its natural state! I was going to use radial disks for the details and curves but now I think stripping it is the way to go, looks way easier. Love the stain choice in the end
I am so glad this channel was recommended! I like some painted furniture but MUCH prefer seeing pieces restored. Just Beautiful and Bucko makes me smile!
I had my doubts how this piece would turn out, but I have to say WOW. Beautiful restoration. Your skills are amazing! I envy the owner of this (now) gorgeous piece.
Sir, thank you for this video!! I just picked up a buffet just like this with veneer tiger oak! I’ve been struggling bc it looked dehydrated and too fragile to sand. I have all the confidence after this video. Thank you.
I was searching how to restore antique furniture, this hutch is the exact one I have and for the reason I was searching. I believe mine was made in St Louis but I can not find the year as the backing to the mirror is missing and that is what had the year on it. Hope mine turns out as good as yours. Thanks for posting such a good video.
I've got a tiger oak buffet. Not as fancy as this one. I love that one you have there too! I have the 2 small drawers on top, then another full length drawer under them, then the cabinets on the bottom.
Thank you for the detailed description of what I am now going to be doing to my Mother-In-Laws Server that is sitting in her garage! I have saved this video to my files and and thankful for your knowledge. Keep the videos coming!
That’s a gorgeous piece of furniture. You did a wonderful job of restoring it. At the end of the video I wondered if it was that beautiful when it was new.
Gorgeous.....great job. Thanks for the tip about the jig, just the tip I needed for a project I've had on the back burner. I wish the throngs of diy furniture painters would watch and learn from you.
Furniture like this is why women would make what they called doilies! Doilies were white cotton lace items that you can place objects such as candle holders, candy bowls, radios, and lamps on without scratching your furniture!
Wow, l can’t believe you found something so incredibly beautiful. What a fabulous job you did restoring it to it’s former glory. Thank You for sharing your knowledge and skills.
Great to see a skilled craftsman bringing some unloved wood back to its former glory. Always great to learn some new tricks. At the same time I can't help wondering how hopeless American furniture design was - and, obviously, still is?
I use that same brand of finish, but the mahogany kind. For whatever reason my family seems to have a crap ton of mahogany furniture so I use it here and there to hide scratches and refresh where the stain has worn away.
I love the tiger oak. My grandmother gave me a dresser I would love to refinish . Thanks for the knowledge and expertise. I cannot find the min wax furniture refinisher anywhere though !.
Live your work. Beautiful piece.

So nice to see you bring the beauty back to this old piece. Beautiful job buddy 👏👍❤
You breathed new life into this piece. It is a drastic improvement.
WOW!!! THIS TIGER OAK BUFFET LOOKS FANTASTIC!!!! WELL DONE!!!💖💖💖💖💖

Same here. She had a whole house full of this furniture. After their death it all got swooped up never to be seen again.
Thank you so much for bringing that monster back to life for me. We'll take good care of her!
Very welcome sir! Thank you!
You must’ve been delighted. I can’t imagine the joy he must’ve got when he first showed it to you.
That is simply stunning!
Absolutely beautiful! What do you spray as the final sealer? After stripping is it necessary to apply wood conditioner prior to staining? Cheers 😊
Oh m’y gosh you are so blessed to have this piece. Beautiful!!!!
Great choice of finish. Dark enough to satisfy customers requirements but light enough to reveal the beauty of the tiger Oak that was hidden a little too much when it came to your shop
What a beautiful restoration John. Once again the finish results are glowing. I learn so many tips from your videos. Nice work!
Wow John! You are some magician! It makes me happy for this piece of furniture- to have come from where she was found and be given a whole new life as a beautiful lady!
Now that’s what I’m talking about, wood finished as it should be !!!!!!

I never would have guessed that that dark wood was so beautiful. Stunning.
I have a close version of this piece. I wanted to refinish and came across your video! ❤

I respect your time in doing the bottom, inside and back.

My wife had one of those, she also had the table and chairs to go with it
I had my doubts how this piece would turn out, but I have to say WOW. Beautiful restoration. Your skills are amazing! I envy the owner of this (now) gorgeous piece.
